  1. I wouldn’t be keeping Kalas personally. This last few weeks has shown how stretched a small squad gets when injuries strike and his fitness record has been woeful for a long time now. I’m sure I’ve read on here over the years that he’s on closer to £30k a week than the £20k people are quoting on this thread. I’ve always had it in my head that he’s our highest paid player either way. We’ve just never had that kind of value out of him for me, even when he was fit more often. I know I’m in the minority here but I actually don’t rate Kalas that highly as a player either. He’s often ‘brave’, flying into tackles and headers etc. but that’s precisely why he gets injured so often. I also don’t think he reads the game that well. The very best defenders rarely have to make crunching tackles because they cut out danger without having to. A lot of what Kalas does is last ditch defending in order to compensate for him not reading the play or making a positional error. With all of that in mind, I’d be wishing Kalas all the best but would definitely be letting him leave.
  2. My son’s away record is spectacular. His first away game was Brighton when we won 1-0 in their promotion season, Brownhill scoring the winner. Since then, he’s been to 8 more and lost the lot. Four of those were this season and he’s not seen a goal in any of them. But compared to @TomF’s record he’s got a long way to go ? I’ve been to most of them with him and we are considering QPR on the last day. We might give it a swerve though, just so we might actually get the win…
  3. I’m not sure I’ve ever got over that ??
  4. I’m actually really gutted about this. Radio Bristol’s sports coverage has improved out of sight in the last 30 years and that is largely down to Geoff. On top of this, he has a warmth and humility that very few can match and he seems genuine in wanting both City and R*vers to do well, which is a very rare thing. He seems to be a properly lovely fella too. He’s one of my favourite broadcasters across any sport and I for one will really miss him.
  5. I’ve enjoyed the season overall and feel more positive about City than I have for a long time. We have a clear identity and way of playing which is entertaining to watch and the players seem as tight a unit as we’ve had for many years. With the emergence of Tanner, Bell and Conway, the improvement of Vyner and Pring, and the continued excellence of Scott it has been fantastic to see so much young talent come through. Seeing them being mentored on and off the pitch by King, James, Naismith etc. has also been great to see. My one frustration for the season has been the run either side of the World Cup break where we won 3 in 17 and the wheels threatened to come off for a while. I was still just about in favour of keeping Nige at that point but as with many I was very close to turning. The battling away performances at Millwall and Coventry gave us the platform to build and we haven’t looked back since. We just need to start turning some of these draws into wins now and we could really progress next season. As for Pearson, overall I think he’s done a tremendous job. We were an absolute mess when he arrived with a bloated squad, no way of playing and a squad that were sinking fast. He’s had to slash the wage bill and turn us into a viable business as well as a team, and it really does feel like we’re heading in the right direction now. Assuming Scott goes, I’m really hopeful that we can bring in what we need to have a real crack at the top 6 next season. I’ve supported City for long enough to know that it could all go horribly wrong, but the signs are positive and things are looking up.
  6. Warnock is doing an incredible job there. When we played Huddersfield I honestly thought they were the worst team I’ve seen all season. All they had in their locker was to kick our best players and hang in there by doing so, and I couldn’t believe we weren’t out of sight by half time. Fast forward a few games and it looks like they’ll survive, comfortably as well. I don’t like the way Warnock gets his teams playing but he really does know how to get results at this level. That turnaround has been up there with anything he’s done in his career.
  7. Much better last 10. Away end sounds very lively today ?
  8. What a chance for Wells… Bell’s pace causing problems
  9. I thought exactly the same. We just can’t keep the ball and look panicked at the back. Really poor so far
  10. I didn’t hear any booing when he came on but don’t doubt it happened. Some of our ‘fans’ have history where this kind of thing is concerned, and it’s as depressing as it is predictable. Quite what these people think they’re helping when they act like that is beyond me. Coming on to that kind of reception when you’re lacking in confidence anyway must be an absolute nightmare. What is the point? I thought Cornick did ok when he came on yesterday. He offered plenty of energy, pressed well and looked after the ball as well as I’ve seen him so since joining us. I’ve seen comments on Twitter about him ‘stealing a living’ and the like and I just see that as embarrassing. He’ll continue to get better, if these morons haven’t hounded him out by then, and when he does I hope they give him the credit he deserves.
  11. This is an interesting point as it seems to work both ways now. Cardiff have just sold a Bristol born boy to Wolves from their U14s, and have another boy in the same age group from Bristol who is a very good player. The second one is a left winger and I’d be surprised if bigger clubs aren’t watching him too. I’m not sure what the set up is like at Cardiff now but I have heard it’s still pretty ruthless.
  12. 4 games for that?! Dear oh dear that is unbelievable. Do we know whether Evans and/or Cunningham got banned for assaulting our players at Preston earlier in the season? I can’t remember seeing an outcome to those situations? I hate to moan about things like this because it always looks like sour grapes, but it does seem that the FA have it in for us in some way. This is a ridiculous decision.
  13. Scott Conway Scott’s piece of skill and pass at Preston I get all the arguments for Vyner and Pring but, even in his quieter games, Scott has been superb for me. He does the ugly side of the game very well, works his backside off, is always available, and on the ball he’s getting on for being as good as I’ve seen in a City shirt.
  14. It was a poor day I agree but even the teams you mention will have those…. That’s football. The key for us is bouncing back now, we tend to be a streaky team so I hope a couple of defeats doesn’t send us onto a terrible run. Especially with the injuries and threadbare squad we are going to have to run with for the time being. I always thought talk of the play offs was fanciful and I still do. But the positives still far outweigh the negatives in recent months for me.
  15. I really like Bell, he’s got bags of potential and will be a real asset to us. However I just don’t think he’s quite ready to play as a central striker in the Championships just yet in the way that Conway is. He works incredibly hard but he just seems to struggle physically against the big defenders in this league and the ball keeps coming back to us because he just isn’t quite able to hold it up as we would need him to yet. That will come, but he’s not quite ready yet imo Personally I’d play him drifting in from the left hand side for the time being. He looks a real threat there away from the muck and bullets physicality of playing in the centre. Either way, he’s going to be a fantastic player for us for the next few years
  16. Blimey, some of the comments on this thread are unbelievable in their negativity. Yesterday was our first defeat in the league all year, and that happens. I hated losing to that lot, they are easily the most vile lot of pond life we have the misfortune to play so that performance coming against them is particularly frustrating. But it was always going to happen at some point and we just have to make the best of it and move on now. For what it’s worth, I’m sure that fatigue was a factor. Our decision making was off, we gave the ball away too cheaply and we just didn’t move it with enough pace to cause problems in and around their box. Just as they built the move that led to the first goal I said to my mate that we couldn’t just keep allowing them to get crosses into the box because something would drop eventually, and before I’d even finished my sentence they scored. We were our own worst enemies at times. They were a poor side but we gave them the opportunity to beat us by just being a bit ‘off it’ all day. The injuries may well turn out to be the most costly element from yesterday. We will be really lacking in power at the back with both Atkinson and Kalas out and the same in midfield with Williams gone too. We’ll have to adapt and Scott playing deeper will weaken us as well. But, looking at the bigger picture, we’ve lost one in 10 and we’re safely in mid table and anyone but the most negative fan would have taken that with both hands 2 months ago. Onwards and upwards.
  17. As others have said, it was never about ability with Vyner. He’s clearly got bags of talent and that was apparent even last season. It was the lapses in concentration and subsequent errors that caused the issues. I remember going to Coventry away last season and saying to my mate what a great first half Vyner had just had. He was excellent… won everything, calm on the ball, he looked a proper player. Within about 5 minutes of the restart he got the wrong side of his man, chopped him down and gave away a penalty. That was just how it was with him at the time…. He could be an accident waiting to happen. This year has been completely different though. He’s played like he did in that first half consistently now, for months and looks a fantastic player. I hope we tie him down to a longer contract so we can see the best of him over the next few seasons.
  18. Really sad news. One of the greats - they don’t make them like him anymore. Him, Brian Moore and Barry Davies were the holy trinity of football commentary, none of the modern commentators come close. For me anyway.
  19. I was in S82 and had no idea what was going on. Seemed from where I was like the security guy didn’t like people celebrating a goal, which is bizarre. I can understand why they check tickets to get into our section. Lots of kids want to go in there and it would be massively over populated if they didn’t. I have no issue with it at all. As for checking them as you approach the stadium, it’s the lack of consistency that I find strange. Sometimes they check, sometimes they don’t, and I go through the same entrance by KFC UPevery week. Very strange As a general point, I’ve got to know the stewards near where I stand and have no issues with any of them at all. Most of them are polite, friendly and helpful and ‘get it’. As long as you don’t act like an obnoxious idiot, in general there are no problems. This private security firm seem like a different breed though… they seem like a completely unnecessary solution to a problem that never existed on the first place

He was absolutely dreadful. Every 50/50 went their way and his inconsistency was amazing at times. Surely something needs to be done about these idiots with whistles? Week after week we get them It made for the perfect afternoon for me though. I love nothing more than losing my shit with the officials and they gave me every opportunity to. And we won. Happy days.
  21. I reckon he’s worth more than that when you look at what some clubs are paying for players nowadays. He’ll have about 80 appearances under his belt by the end of the season all being well, and he’ll have been sensational in at least half of them!
  22. I’ve been telling my sons to enjoy him while we have him ever since I first watched him for us. He’s a sensational player and he’s got the lot. Our last player who I was this sure would go to the very top was Webster but I think Scott is better than even him. He’s an outrageous talent.
  23. What a ridiculous, horrendous thing to say
  24. Klose has been coaching the kids for a while now as well and they absolutely love him. He's an excellent coach, they loved his approach to sessions and the experiences he shared about his career. They found him hilarious to boot. From what I hear he's a great person to have around. The boys all signed a card for him last night when he said his goodbyes. I don't pretend to know the guy personally but everything I've heard is positive and I hope he's a huge success in his coaching career back in Switzerland.
