Middlesborough away match thread
cityexile replied to Jerseybean's topic in The Havanatopia Match Day Archive
Despite the final scores, thought we had looked defensively pretty sound the two games overall. No idea what is happening today, pulled apart all over the place. Max the star, a very decent goal and somehow we are ahead. Middlesbrough fans will be feeling like we did mid week. I would probably take a point if offered it right now. -

Rather against the run of play. Hopefully the reverse of Tuesday. -
Norwood's Foul on Williams - Why no Red Card?

Ref missed it most likely. Have to say I thought Scott got away with a potential second yellow just before the break. One of those matches were the blood pressure keeps rising. -

It’s a very poor decision. We take our chances, it does not matter. Just bloody frustrating match all round. The worry is for each match like this were we do play well enough to get something and don’t, we are capable of a Reading and Birmingham were we get exactly what we deserve. -

One of those matches that just drives your blood pressure right up. They score one of their few chances that should not be given. Ref loses control, decent shout for a pen, hit the post twice etc etc. I suppose Sheff Utd will think job done. Bottom line, we could not score and then it’s always a possibility. Horrible match to lose that way. Hate the ref, hate Sky, hate Sheff Utd, hate our luck, hate the balls and chances we wasted. On to the next. -

14 shots, 1 on target. Two home games were we have been I think the better side, but only scored once. Goals drying up is the problem all of a sudden. -

Middlesbrough on a bit of a bounce. We are one of a dozen teams all well matched trying to avoid three places. -

Been a decent half, been the better side and played some decent stuff. Equally ended up creating not very much, and Sheff Utd set up to pick us off sooner or later. Scott been the pick, but could easily have been off. There to be won. -

Decent match in fairness. Always easy in hindsight but wonder if Semenyo is better at the moment coming on with 30 to go. Thought we worked incredibly hard without the ball and back three were very solid. Made them score a goal that needed a good finish. Only some good play stoped them creating more, but in hindsight Swansea were pleasing on the eye but did not end up creating that much in terms of clear chances. Sometimes if it’s got a bit wrong it’s important to at least get the point, which in fairness I thought we deserved. -

Very hard fought point. Will take that. Some really good defensive play and always gave themselves a chance. -

Whether we can keep that press up for 90 mins remains to be seen, but given the side we have had to put out could not really have asked for more that half. -

Just not able to do two game a week it seems. Just no energy, pace or desire it seemed today. Well beaten. -

One of those matches were we just don’t look like we are ever going to create a clear chance, let alone score. Let’s hope I jink it. -

Must be Reading fans watching that wondering how on earth we are a top scoring side. Defensively, ok. Reading created more chances but you would not say any great ones. I imagine we are winning possession, without really looking like we will do anything with it at all. Really really poor in the final third. One of those if we win 1-0 I suppose people will put down as a perfect away performance, and if we lose 1-0 wonder did we ever turn up and give it a go. It was indeed a half of football. -

Pretty much sums us up sp far. Plenty of possession, but Reading looking more dangerous when they have it. -
Whereas glass half empty people like me immediately reacted by thinking, 'umm, Hull, Middlesborough and Coventry all winning, would have liked to see one of two teams starting to get dropped at the bottom'

Not going to lie…yes, I was, a little! Results like today mean a huge amount in terms of settling nerves. With the league so tight, I imagine we feel like at least a dozen set of fans in this league. Thinking, get a small run together, play like we know how we can, we can make the top six. Lose a couple of key players, play as badly as we do from time to time, that bottom scrap is not that far away.
