All hospitals have morgues of course. Nothing out of the ordinary there. I think it's likely that the group of people you're talking about will be kept comfortable at home and won't get anywhere near a hospital as this escalates

The number of deaths will ramp up over the next couple of weeks, not least because we will run out of ITU and hospital beds, and patients will be discharged early or possibly not even admitted depending on circumstances. Obviously we don't have the equipment, expertise or ability to act as quickly in primary care, so don't get your hopes up.

Ok, I'll be fair, thanks for replying, I don't think you're the bad guy here, fully understand your dilemma, I've got friends/relatives in similar situations , jobs/business going under , it's a complete nightmare. I don't know how it would work either, but that's neither of our problems. We should categorically be in lockdown as the scenes over the weekend demonstrate. Over the next 2-3 weeks people will start to see the consequences of their inexplicable failure to listen to what they're being told , and even if they understandably don't believe a word Boris says, they can see what's happening everywhere else can't they. The NHS will be no more able to cope than the Italians or Spanish have. No health service is prepared for what we're about to encounter. Bleating on about government cuts etc completely misses the point. Even if we had twice the ICU capacity it still wouldn't be enough, and of course you then have the question of man power, which will diminish over time. As I mentioned in another thread we already have lost 3 members of staff last week from our surgery, 2 clinicians , and it's barely started yet. Technically I retire in about 10 days, forgotten when it was gonna be, realistically I've delayed that for 3 months accepting it'll probably be 6. If it's to be believed we may get some proper protective gear this week, if not I'm trying to convince my wife to move out whilst the risk is relatively low. Actually don't have the words to describe what I think of the people ignoring the advise given currently, but without doubt they as a collective are responsible for other people deaths. That's not a maybe it's a straightforward fact.

Currently at our surgery we have one young member of staff off work almost certainly with the virus, and our manager gone due to a family member in a similar situation. No deep cleaning whatever that is, as they have not been able to get a test and therefore can't confirm the diagnosis . I believe a neighbouring surgery is in a similar situation. Today's update has confirmed the COVID Home Management Service will not be mobilised at a local level, suggesting they were not able to recruit enough idiots willing to do this job. Therefore responsibility has been handed back to the GP's or providers as we're affectionately known. As things stand we've been given about 6 of the masks that everyone knows don't work and a roll of clingfilm to protect ourselves with. I've had a completely serious conversation with one of my partners this evening with regards to how accurately we'll be able to determine someone's need for admission over the phone on the basis of how distressed their breathing sounds, as quite frankly we're unwilling to assess these patients in person without suitable protection. Either way I suspect many front line medics will be unavailable in the near future and my intent is not to alarm, but suggest you don't go down the pub this evening , visit the gym etc. Be as antisocial as possible. Three points to make, firstly this is at a local level and may not represent all of you, secondly I'm very alarmed and thirdly the clingfilm was a joke , they were going to give it to us but Tesco had run out. If there are any inaccuracies in this I apologise , but it is my understanding.

Ok, I'll give a personal example of the government's failings currently. Not aimed particularly at Boris but I guess he's in it. I'm a 58 yr local old GP of 29 yrs. Due to retire April 6th, but I've told the practice I'll come back and help when they need me, as inevitably clinicians are gonna start to get sick. However this coincides with an appraisal I would have been due also in April, and I've been told categorically that if I don't sit down to discuss quality initiatives and personal development etc , they'll revoke my licence to practise. I've rang the GMC and they just repeat the same mantra. Now I don't have an overwhelming desire to expose myself to this virus anymore than anyone else, but equally feel that this is what I do and I should try to help. Local MP is running it by Hancock today, but there's a bit of me thinks **** it why bother.

That's interesting, thanks, although as with all the information we're being given , over a very short period of time. My concern is over a lack of consensus and the fact that we are desperately unprepared for a situation such as Italy finds itself in despite being given a couple of weeks notice. Things are about to get significantly worse and we currently do not seen to have any coherent strategy in place to deal with it. Or maybe I'm just not getting those emails.
