You make a good point, although I think it's rather different. They were all our players going off to other teams to get experience and none of them had a decision coming up regarding a transfer fee.

We're talking about 6 more games for a player who isn't ours to make an impact.

Or, we could give those 6 games to one of our own young lads.

I say this as someone who thought in the brief minutes against Southampton he looked like he had a bit about him. and certainly haven't written him off - but I could see why people would rather not bother, especially given that we're going to have to pay for him.

I think we have to trust in those at the club to see if there is potential there. They know his personality and ability a lot better now than they did 3 months ago.  So if they decide to sign him, I think we have to assume for the time being it’s the right decision despite his lack of playing time.  There is no way that fans will be able to have an opinion on it really. Not an informed one, anyway.

But what do you think the club saw that prompted the loan and inclusion into matchday squads ?

Loans are for the here and now like Twine not the future imo.

Loans can be for both. A try before you buy is not a bad thing

    Roberts - Born May 2002

    Bell - Born May 2002

    Conway - Born August 2002.

I appreciate we may view Roberts and Bell as young players but @shahanshahan explained the criteria earlier in the thread and it’s not a long thread to have had to read through before asking a question he’s already answered…

Fair enough and I should have read it. Seems mad though that 3 months matters. I cannot vote for Conway or any of the others as I don’t think they are deserving.  Bell or Roberts are hardly deserving either but at least there would be a proper choice

I get where you’re coming from on nurturing young talent and the paths taken by players like Conway, Vyner, and Bell within our own system. However, discussing a loan signing shifts the focus significantly. I’m not trying to be overly pessimistic personally, but from my perspective, this particular loan doesn’t strike me as a good move by the club. We’re in a competitive environment where the immediate contribution is key.

The investment in a loan—both in terms of the loan fee and the player’s wages—is meant for instant impact, something that’s crucial given Mannnigs position. This isn’t about the player’s potential or their long-term development; it’s about what they can bring to the table right now. It’s not that I don’t appreciate the value of bringing up young talents. That’s essential for the club’s future, obviously. But when we talk about a loan, we’re talking about a strategic decision made to fill a gap or strengthen a position immediately.

The harsh reality is that the senior level of football is a different beast, and not all young talents can make an instant impact. This isn’t to underestimate the achievements of any young player. Their success in youth leagues and at the international level speaks volumes about their potential (I'd argue I'm being too kind but alas). But there’s a big leap from potential to being a game-changer in professional matches, especially under the pressure and expectations that come with a loan.

So, while I respect the journeys of our own young players who have been integrated slowly and are seen as part of our long-term strategy, a loan player is expected to deliver right off the bat. Given the specifics of this loan and the immediate challenges we face, I’m hesitant to say it’s a good signing. It’s a matter of addressing our needs now, and I’m not convinced this move does that. Again, it’s not about being too pessimistic; it’s about being realistic with our expectations and how this particular loan fits into them.

You are looking at loans from one angle. Here we have a player whose pedigree is undoubtedly impressive. He’s available for an affordable fee in the summer but his career is on a downward trajectory.  If you are given the opportunity to pay a smallish fee to have a proper look at him, in house, for 6 months why would you turn it down simply because it’s unusual?

2 meaningless wins against 2 teams out of form changes nothing about how I feel.

The anger I feel towards how this club is run will not change because of those results. This season we have all how to sit through a load of bloody crap because of how the club has been run.

This season was really the season for us to push on but they have set us back by years by not only getting rid of Pearson but by totally messing up the recruitment process and bringing in someone that they didn't know what they would be getting who doesn't suit us at all. At this point in time I'm deeply concerned about relegation next season.

Had I of known they'd make these two ridiculous decisions before I renewed last season I'd not have renewed. It's been an absolute waste of a grand and time this season.

I've lost my passion for going because of those in charge and that makes me even angrier. Two 1 nil wins won't dilute that anger. Those wins do not give any signs that the club as a whole has turned a corner.

Your anger is clouding your judgment sadly.  Hopefully it subsides

Although we played quite well and had our own chances I though that if it was not for Max we could have easily lost by a couple against Leicester.  So perhaps more lucky than clever?

However, although the first 30 minutes yesterday was pretty ordinary we did get on top and finished the half the better team.. I was very impressed with the triple sub’s then made at half time, especially as we had battled to get ourselves on top.. Thought we clearly deserved the win and in no small part due to the bravery of the mangers subs.

So, to be fair, now is not the time to get too high or too low albeit after these two great results.

If we’d been given the penalties we deserved we’d have been comfortable.  Swings and roundabouts

  7. Hopefully Liam is sussing it out. If he learns on the job (Tinnion’s words) but does it quickly enough then I am sure that all fans will be happy with the outcome regardless of how we’ve got there

Regardless of managers and the politics of the football club. I can’t understand or believe any genuine City fan would want us too lose.

I don’t think anyone wants us to lose but they capitalise when we do so they get a positive from it

Back to back wins 99.9999% guarantees we will be in the Championship next year. Winning all our games would see us fall just short and losing them all would see us just about safe - and of course we’ll do something in between anyway. SO.

For the last 6, would you like to see us prioritise results above all else and finish as high as possible? Could make the club an easier sell to prospective signings and I think there’s a small financial incentive to finishing higher. Also develops player relationships and lets Liam get his messages across further.

Or would you like us to try things out that could help us next season. Blood Knight-Lebel and others, have a proper look at Mebude, maybe try some alternative formations.

Not sure which way I’d go so thought I’d open it up to discussion. Regardless, well in City, proper bank holiday weekend that!

If we lose all our games from now we are still safe.  With the amount of fans on Manning’s back he needs to win as many games as he can. He can’t afford to blood players and then lose more of the fanbase
