    You are simply wrong.

"The main difference, which will be the focus of this paper, is that ‘most’ tends to be used to convey proportions higher than ‘more than half’. More specifically, while ‘more than half’ is usually used for proportions right above 50%, ‘most’ is used for proportions that are significantly higher than 50%."

Carcassi, F. & Szymanik, J., (2021) “An alternatives account of 'most’ and 'more than half’”, Glossa: a journal of general linguistics 6(1): 146. doi: https://doi.org/10.16995/glossa.5764

I would call you ridiculous for going to the lengths of finding this paper, but I then read it - So I'm clearly going to the same lengths! 😂

The paper isn't actually saying what you think, it's arguing that when both 'more than half' and 'most' are used in the same piece of writing, maths, or paper then a clear difference is needed - it then attempts to show what the difference might be/at what point 'more than half' becomes 'most' if both are used.

To try and put that more clearly - it looks at the two expressions from an academic point of view and how they could/can be used in Maths and research papers.

It is similar to the use of 'theory' in science - in general the use of the word 'theory' means a hunch or best guess about something, however in science/ research papers it means pretty much the opposite. It means that every piece of evidence has been taken into account and any future evidence should comply with that theory- it means something has been completed tested, thought out, and is backed up - gravity in science is a theory.

Clues in the name.. are we doing any? And how do we book if there are?

My son has never been to the gate and ideally like to take him before breaking his heart gently, as aim to get us both season tickets next season.

Where are you going to get tickets? Which Stand? I've just moved back to Bristol after 8 years in California and aiming to get a season ticket trying to decide where.

I get the modern style for ball carriers but the best ones don't get their team 40 or 50 metres up the pitch then surrender the ball cheaply.

And yes, I do expect end product from our wingers, certlainly from a player with MEH-meti's technical skills.

Otherwise you might as well just play anybody out wide.

Sykes delivers more with less. MEH-meti needs to step it up. It's obvious it's all in his head. Whether the penny will ever drop is anyone's guess. And I'm not sure how long we can wait if we're serious about making proper progress.

I think he has stepped it up in a big way. His tactical play has massively improved, from token runs back and a few hearty challenges to being disciplined and tracking. He has come on a long way in a really short space of time. + Look at the stats @Ian M gave, most of what he is doing is actually starting to come off in some way. Room to keep improving? Absolutely, but for me he is showing that he can improve and is doing so.

Tbf, there are over 1k comments under last night’s BBC match report and although there are certainly a good number along the lines you say above, I was struck by how many West Ham fans took defeat graciously, said it should be a man’s game, that City played better and fully deserved the win, and wished us all best in the next round.

Agreed, their forum is the same. I few ridiculous comments but plenty of them gave us credit and a lot of praise for our physical style. Not actually that many complaints, and even some of those complaining about the ref concede we deserved to win anyway.

  5. Agree on Annis, lost the ball a few times, but only when taking his man on and that's going to happen! we want him attacking his man it's the main strength he arrived with, and sometimes that's not going to come off (and remember he was playing against a prem side today).

What has impressed is that in the relatively short run of games he has been starting he has really developed his defensive discipline and now is covering really well and tracking. That's something he and LM should take credit for.
