  1. I do like having a manager who will call it how he sees it in post-match interviews. You get the sense he knows exaclty where we've gone wrong and we'll be working on it for the rest of the week. I've not always had that sense with our managers...
  2. To be fair to GON, the time he most famously did that his team managed to go on and win...
  3. Sure but I think it's about perspective. People tend to claim we're brilliant when we win and awful when we lose and the truth is we're a decent Championship side who are stronger than last season but still riding our luck a bit and are probably more mid-table than play-off contenders. I also think the flipside to what you've said is that football supporters on internet forums sometimes feel they have impunity to criticise as harshly as they like without impunity but then seem a bit surprised when people criticise them harshly. Ultimately if someone's not prepared to put up with abuse on the internet, they probably shouldn't be abusing people on the internet.
  4. This is true but I don't think this will happen. I think we're a bit more resilient than we were and I think we'll be able to see it as a bad day at the office rather than a disaster...
  5. Indeed. I don't want to get into finger-pointing and I'm not having a go but I think and hope LJ will have learned something after tonight. From what I've heard (admittedly I wasn't at the game so this may be nonsense) it seems we reacted to going down to 10 men against 10 men by acting like 10 men against 11 and trying to defend what we had for all it was worth. Ultimately it didn't work and let them back into the game. As someone said earlier in the thread, sitting back doesn't really work to our strengths.
  6. On the upside, we're 2 points off the play-offs and 5 points clear of the bottom 3. I'd have taken that after seven games for sure. Let's not let a good platform fall apart based on one result.
  7. I didn't realise that - only seen that brief clip. Completely agree - he's a player we could really do with, especially with O'Neill out the picture for a game.
  8. Very, very little by the looks of it. I suppose the kindest thing to say is he's a little rusty...
  9. ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! ****!! Okay, now that's off my chest, this is the first time this season we've had a worse result than we 'should' (given where we were in the game - not saying we're better than Wednesday). The test is how we react next time. Here's to beating the **** out of Derby on Saturday... EDIT: The swear filter works!!!
  10. Indeed. And even though ROD made a mistake for the goal, the reality is that he's gained us enough points over the last few months I don't begrudge him the odd error. Ditto Tomlin and, so far this season, O'Neill. If any of our players were perfect they wouldn't be playing for us!
  11. There's valid criticism and non-valid criticism though. If he'd done something arrogant with the penalty I'd get it but he aimed for the corner and narrowly missed Not saying he's the Messiah but every player misses penalties from time to time. He didn't do a great deal wrong and I do take a bit of an issue with people having a go at the person who puts their head over the parapet and narrowly falls short. Ten players didn't take the penalty, didn't put their neck on the line and thus escape blameless and that seems a tad unfair.
  12. Well yeah. But players miss penalties. Tomlin's scored them for us before but that's a thing that happens. Tomlin has absolutely no control of O Neill's legs and what they do. It's absurd to blame him for O Neill getting red carded. That's on either O'Neill or the ref, depending on how you call it.
  13. To be fair, I think that second one was on the midfield (as well as ROD). Players should not be getting shots in from there...
  14. Yeah - I'd quite like to see us put Reid or Patterson on and try and swing the momentum our way.
  15. To be fair, he's not the reason we're doing to ten men. Or the reason ROD made an error. The team have to be resilient. So far this season we have been. Let's see if we can pull a win out the bag...
  16. Indeed. Good for them too. I'd rather see the likes of Barnsley and Huddersfield doing well than the usual suspects...
  17. I think this will be the toughest away game of the season - long trip midweek to a recently relegated team and, whereas I think Villa and Newcastle have got both a bit more of a "wow" factor and fans that'll get restless and on the team's back if things go wrong, I don't think that'll be the case so much with Norwich. I also think they're in the best shape of any of the relegated teams. I'll be pleased with a point and thrilled with a win.
  18. So that's what? 69 minutes to write off one of our key players from last season?
  19. I'm sure LJ knows far better than me but, if it were me, I'd take off a midfielder (Brownhill probably but maybe O'Neill if he's not going to last 90 minutes), put Abraham on and push for a 4-2-1-3 with Tomlin behind Kodjia.
  20. To be honest it was over as a contest when we made the subs. Dowling is still acclimatising and Vyner showed some good touches but we didn't offer much after that. That said we could easily have had two penalties for fouls on Kodjia. One for shirt pulling, which would have admittedly been soft, and one for a blatant foul by Henry which when the QPR fans around me admitted should have been given.
