The difference is that it can't convert to a safe standing area 😀.

What I think it's there for is to prevent you falling out your seat onto the row below, and installed because of the high rake. I had issues with the steepness of the rake high in the millennium stadium and the upper lansdown. That rail would probably make me feel safer if nothing else.

Genuine question - are you suggesting the intention is for people to still be sitting in this area? Because surely that bar is going to obscure you view if you’re seated and looking down towards the pitch?

My interpretation is simply that this is their version of “safe standing”, and what we should expect to find in the away end on Sunday.

If it is as you say, I also don’t understand why West Ham would have this rail when other stadiums with an equally high rake don’t.

Edit - this article appears to support my theory. The headline refers to “safe standing” and then talks about the addition of a rail.

I don't think that's a safe standing area. It looks like it's a safety rail. See here for info

You’re right. Not quite sure what the practical difference is though? Either way, I think that’s what we’ll be getting in the away end - article refers to the Sir Trevor Brooking stand, which is where we’ll be.

I've been in the safe standing a couple of times at Cardiff with my 11 year old boy with no issues, and I'm sure the rake at the London Stadium is steeper.

We're in the rail seats on Sunday too.

edit- if a giant is in front of you then your son can stand on his seat, I presume they won't be locked upright.

    Thanks, that’s reassuring.

Interestingly it appears the rail seating at West Ham is just an adaptation of the existing seating, rather than a bespoke rail seat that can be locked in position.

Not sure I’d want my son standing on them though, that wouldn’t be very stable, particularly if you suddenly react to something on the pitch.

I'm going to this game with my 13 year old in the safe standing area. He's about average height for his age. Does anyone have experience of being in a safe standing area with young people - is he likely to be able to see the game clearly?

Obviously this will depend to some extent on who's in front of him, but just wondered generally if it's an issue. I know some safe standing areas in other stadiums don't permit children. The rake looks fairly steep in the upper tier, so I'm hoping it will be OK.

Just bumping this. Anyone know? Little bit concerned.

Was actually thinking of bringing a little folding step for him, but I see West Ham don’t let you bring in rucksacks (no bags bigger than A4), so I don’t think I’d get it in.

I just don't think I could handle all those bubble blowers. Shame as Im local at mo.

Have a great day out all.

Will this be our biggest away fixture gate since Wembley playoff? ( sorry to bring it up)

If we’re counting Wembley as an away fixture then you’re forgetting the JPT final in 2015.

Morning all. Well, yesterday was about as limp a start to a new year as we could have imagined…but there’s always the cup!

Sunday will be my son’s first away game and my first for a while, so I’m a little out of touch on away days! I collected our tickets yesterday and I see that it’s allocated seating…in reality though, do people abide by these or does it become a free for all?

Looking forward to a fun day out with 9k City fans…less excited at the complexities of rail travel given the disruption of works/strikes.

This splits opinion, but my view is that when an away end is sold out with a large following, it's much fairer on everyone and causes a lot less grief if we all go to our allocated seats.

If any West Ham fans read this forum, bring a blanket and small pillow with you next Sunday. We will ensure you are nodding off by half time. Right, left, left, right, right ,left, hump ball long, lose possession. Repeat for 90 minutes, until we concede.

This is just reactionary, fickle nonsense.

These prices constantly puts my boys and many of their friends off, they play on Saturdays so can only make a few games a season prices permitting

There are much cheaper options available than the middle of the Lansdown and plenty of availability unless you leave it until the last minute for a popular fixture.

If your boys are under 19, then a membership costs £25, includes a free ticket to any league match, and then a fiver off per match. If they’re adults they still get the fiver off.

Got some mates who made a last minute decision to come today

£42 for a ticket for a non member

disgusting pricing and now all 3 have decided not to bother

on the flip side... barely any tickets left

Was the most expensive ticket in the stadium the only option remaining?

You're talking a lot of sense - the reaction post match is always a bit extreme, but it has been exacerbated by the communication from the club regarding the change of manager. Win and Manning is a genius, lose and we are doomed. In the grand scheme of things yes, we are pretty safely midtable, and there are plenty of clubs worse off in terms of points, including today's opponents.

I can though understand the frustration today when I think we managed 1 shot on target all game. Given what we've been promised and what we have shown at times this season

I agree the managerial change has made the mood swings here more volatile, and to be clear I’m not here to defend the sacking of Pearson.

Just trying to counterbalance the usual kneejerk nonsense.

Good results against teams like Sunderland, Hull, and Watford become slightly meaningless when you keep dropping points to teams like QPR, Huddersfield, B'ham, and Millwall.

    Classic City!

It doesn’t make them meaningless, because if you lose them too you end up relegated.

I know no one wants to hear balance or perspective right now, but this is the Championship. The margins between most teams are fractional, which means you win games you might expect to lose and lose games you might expect to win.

So we didn’t play well today. But it’s a first defeat in five, and we don’t need to instantly dismiss a play off push off the back of one result against Millwall when we’re only 4 points away with 60 points still to play for - any more than we should suddenly assume we’re going to Wembley after an excellent win away at Watford.

Neither does it mean Manning is suddenly hopeless again, when he was Guardiola a few days ago.

Let’s at least try to keep some perspective on where we are. We are a midtable team doing midtable things. We will play poorly again and we will play well again. But the last few weeks have offered some encouragement and one poor result doesn’t undo all of that.

  13. I happened to be at Tottenham today with a Spurs mate. Absolutely fantastic stadium!

Was disappointed Scott and Semenyo didn’t start, but both came on and made decent contributions, Scott in particular who looked his usual classy self - got his goal and had another disallowed for offside.

Spurs were actually pretty poor, Bournemouth dominated large periods of the game but wasted a lot of chances.

I have just received the information re the parking charge for the second half of the season, not impressed is an understatement,

21/22 season was £205 for the whole season,

22/23 season was £250 for the whole season,  that was a 25% increase,

this 23/24 season is on a separate level though, due to the proposed ground extensions and reconstructions the payments were divided in to two parts,

I paid £193 @as the initial payment, we would be advised of the second payment amount once the construction works started and how many home games were left,

well the offer arrived for the 11 remaining home games, £176.00 !!!!!, this works out at £369 for the season,

are they having a laugh ?

ok some of you will say find somewhere else to park,

but when you have a 90 mile trip to get to the ground, enjoying the quiet of the M5, which means the journey can vary between 2 and 4 hours, you need to know you have a parking place at the end of the journey,

rant over, I know I’ll finishing up paying anyway

    😡

Use JustPark, which will work out substantially cheaper than this AND will give you the assurance of a booked parking place.

Good one👍.  I haven’t used JustPark myself, but know others who have and they reckon it’s great.

I just realised though, that tool Sadiq Khan recently extended ULEZ right out to the M25, so Ealing is now well inside the zone.  Obviously no problem if your vehicle is ULEZ compliant.

No ULEZ issue for me. I’ve used JustPark dozens of times over the last few years and it works really well. Pick a spot with good reviews and clear instructions.

An option would have been to drive to Ealing Broadway Station, which is just outside the ULEZ.  There’s an outdoor car park opposite the station and also a multi-story at the nearby shopping centre, though the latter closes in the evening.  Parking is around £12 per day at either I think.  You can then catch the Elizabeth Line from Ealing Broadway straight across to Stratford Station.

I expect the coach fare is cheaper than your combined fuel and parking though and you can have a few 🍺🍺🍺😁

This is what I’m doing - driving to Ealing Broadway and hopping on the Elizabeth Line.

Although I suggest using JustPark to find a space in Ealing, which is generally cheaper than a multi-storey and guarantees your spot. I’ve paid £8.40 to park all day.

My son has a junior red memberhip which supposedly comes with a free child and free adult ticket for a game of his choice.

However, I can't find any details how to redeem the redeem the free tickets.

    Anyone know?

Ordinarily order my tickets online, but when I’m using my son’s free ones I just ring up the ticket office and sort it out over the phone.
