...unless the rumour is true about a new consortium is looking to buy out SL but it's all dependent on how the stadium can be increased in capacity going forwards. (note: that was a rumour on another thread on OTIB - so nothing concrete)

I think the rebuild of the Atyeo will be the ultimate challenge between making Ashton Gate look like an identi-kit stadium, or having an amazing feature\end that other clubs can be envious of. IMO, and I've banged the drum a lot for this over the years, the Atyeo would be absolutely amazing as a huge single tiered stand, but would be reliant on removing the houses behind. If we have a similar stand to the South Stand, it will just make Ashton too much of a flat pack stadium.

The Big Match - City v Liverpool 73/74
beaverface replied to Tinmans Love Child's topic in Football Chat
This game was before my time, so this is one of the few occasions I've had to see some of the players in action. I must say, I liked the look of Fear, Tainton and Gow in that match. -
...and to think the gas were i.e non-league with a billionaire owner!! I can feel the green eyed monster coming on

Take a look at 11mins 11secs - appears somebody is walking on the East End roof ? -
Wouldn't it be great to get a win against Norwich? How many times have we had large crowds only to send them home disappointed thinking we've cocked up the opportunity to get more fans down the ground on a regular basis.

My favourite bit is watching the crowd surges in the East End when we have a decent chance. I remember terracing like that where you're literally picked up and carried somewhere else by the sheer volume of people. A little bit scary, but also exciting and exhilarating - I miss those days. -
I think Ashton was here when NP joined.

Maybe they could erect a big screen in their carpark to show England? Should work really well, especially as its at a rugby stadium!
-
Nooooooooooooooooo!!! You just need to state, take the Red from our kit, the White from their kit....and also rename the South Stand after Mickey Bell, and you've got a Full House! Agggggggghhhhhh
-
Thats what I was thinking. Bell is the Vardy, Mehmeti is the Mahrez, but that does question where Alex Scott fits in?

To me, with all the departures of players, it now feels like the beginning of Nigel Pearsons reign. Up til now he's had his hands tied massively, and now he finally has that wriggle room start moulding his own squad. It's not gonna happen straight away this summer, but one would hope that giving him three transfer windows from now on would give us a competitive team to push for the top 6 in a season or two. Until now, he's been given him the benefit of doubt. From now on is when I think he'll be truly judged.

Wow! It gets dark early in BS3!

Good point, but with them looking at the Fruit Market, that doesn't sit right with me.

I agree, surely it makes sense, given the size of their Memorial Grounds footprint to turn the pitch 90degrees, and they'll then have an existing stand behind a goal with executive boxes (D), terracing (C) running pretty much down the length of the pitch, and then two areas (see A and B) to have room to build two stands. They could easily do a Gillingham down one side of the pitch and just erect temporary seating, thus allowing them to stay in the stadium, whilst building a decent home end(A) with flats\housing\executive boxes - or whatever they want. Would be a decent capacity as well.

Time Since Last Bristol City Penalty
beaverface replied to JackiDziekanowski's topic in Football Chat
"Minimum football contact". Surely a foul can still be committed by touching the ball first/same time as going through a player? -
Can't argue with that either. If City receive a massive offer that's too good to be true, there's always the prospect that we may force his hand to accept.
-
I suppose the other thing that Alex Scott understands, is what it's like to be released from a club, therefore as he's got it good here at the moment, maybe it's too soon for him to be moving to a big PL side and not get the chance to impose himself.

Stop the Clock! Should the Football League follow suit?
beaverface replied to Mr Popodopolous's topic in Football Chat
I'd like to see the stopped referees clock linked to the big screens so that everyone can see when the clock is stopped. -
I asked ChatGPT who the best team in Bristol is...
beaverface replied to CiderJar's topic in Football Chat
I asked a similar question around who has the largest attendances, and I think chat gpt came back with a "subjective" answer, rather than proving full blown facts on official attendances. Seems subjective is a get of jail card to not answering a question definitively. -
The line in bold I find interesting. Unfortunately, from a pessimistic point of view, can we realistically see SL running the club for another 10 years - potentially yes, but realistically no - so at some point I'd expect SL to want to offload everything. If Jon Lansdown isn't interested in taking over the ownership of any of the clubs owned by SL i.e. City, Rugby, Basketball, Motor racing, then what the hell happens when SL passes on? Somebody needs to action that situation, whether it's a pre-emptive lock stock sell by SL, or a reactive sell by JL (if something unfortunately suddenly happened to SL) - we're still left with a situation that all the clubs owned by the Lansdown will need running by someone.
