I'm not sure what you mean by achieving, a semi-final in the World Cup and a final in the Euros in the not-too-distant past, if you mean actually winning a tournament well yes we have not achieved, but only one team ever wins and the odds are pretty stacked against any team.

Well we haven't won a tournament since 1966 and that's 58 years of winning zilch.  Many of you are too young to ever remember winning or what it feels like to win.

  2. Hard to get too excited about an end of season game with nothing riding on it, but both sets of players will either be playing for contracts or places in their respective starting 11s next year or even perhaps the prospect of a lucrative transfer deal or contract elsewhere.

But it is our last home game for a few months before we settle down to watch boring England fail to achieve yet again in a major competition and our last chance to see a few players who might not be here next season.

Not sure we will be seeing 2 teams really going for it - more likely a bit of experimentation and perhaps the chance for a few who might be on the fringes from the start or from the bench.

Still, it's what we always enjoy on a Saturday afternoon for whatever masochistic reason or another.

And Conway and Twine and Medube.

Tommy Conway is nowhere near ready for a step up (and not sure he ever will be) and would be better off staying here at the moment.

Not sure we have seen enough of Twine to really judge him, but clearly not worth a seven figure transfer fee, at least yet.

Medube is a strange one.  Nobody really knows what has been going on with him, do they, though we have speculated

Will be interesting to see, with Saturday being the last home game, whether there are any sentimental team selections?  Could be James, King and Williams last time in front of the AG crowd???

I would hope LM picks the best team he can to try to win the game.  No problem with bringing these 3 on later in the game if we are 2 or 3 up.

I would hope we can keep Joe Williams and whilst I like both Andy King and Matty James, they are both too old now to justify paying their wages for another season.  We need to be looking forward,  except that these two have had their day and thank them for their service. I would imagine getting these two off the payrole might be sufficient to fund a decent striker.

It could be that he’s proven in training to be an absolute wizard of a player. We told him to play carp in his last match and now we’re not playing him as part of a cunning plan to drive the transfer fee down. To keep the player’s spirits up during this ‘withdrawn’ period we treat him to days out sitting on the bench.

Alternatively, he’s not very good and the work experience analyst who recommended him has been sacked.

    Hopefully, the former.

    Sounds about right.

Drysdale was born and brought up in Wingate, Durham and started his career at Lincoln before we signed him from Hartlepool.

Didn't know that.  I knew some of his family members who were all local

  7. We signed a few from Scotland - Gillies, Sweeney, Fitzpatrick spring to mind

Merrick, Ritchie, Gow, Tainton, Rodgers, Whitehead all came through our youth setup.

Not sure about Gary Colliers history offhand.

Drysdale was actually a local lad who we signed from Hartlepool and Cheesley was signed for £30k from Norwich, though also a local lad.

I remember signing Gould from Wolves, Hunt from Coventry, Cormack from Liverpool and Hunter from Leeds once we were in Div 1.  We also signed Jon Shaw from Leeds.

Can't believe my memory is still good enough to remember all this.

Anyone else remember much about other players of that time.

Yep, story I have been told since was they spent the majority of the time between the Portsmouth & Notts County games in the Baccy Jar in Whitchurch..

If I remember correctly, Trevor Jacobs ran it for a few years and it was Ray Cashley's local.  Am I correct?

  9. A great night indeed and a great result, though it wasn't that great a game as far as I can remember.  The only time I have ever set foot on the hallowed turf at AG and filled with excitement at the thought of what was coming next season.

3 generations of us watched the game from the grandstand (we normally stood in the uncovered end in those days).

  10. Nowrich have a lot to play for and we don't.  However our players should be playing for their shirt and a place in Mannings starting line up for next season.  I can't think of any who are getting shipped out though there are one or two out of contract in the summer.

Not sure how attacking or defensive we will set up, though having Dickie back should be a plus (I think Vyner may still be sidelined).

A flight to Barcelona to watch the game on RobinsTV is going to be a lot quicker than travelling to the actual game and probably a bit cheaper too.

  11. What can he say?

I've lost interest in BCFC and left it to Crayon Boy to run (and he's more interested in being a fake playboy).

I'm more interested in the rugby now.

Anyone who disagrees with us shall be sacked irrespective of what the fans think.

We are not interested in fans, only interested in paying customers.

    There is no transfer budget.

I've put as much money into the club as I am going to and won't put in a penny more.

I would like to get rid of the football club but can't find anybody to pay my extortionate asking price.

Unlikely he will tell us any of this, but which of the above are untrue?

  12. His arms were out and it was a penalty in my biased view, but in reality, I've seen as many similar examples waived away as often as given.

TBH we have had much clearer penaly shouts including several stone wall pens turned down in the last couple of years.

I did like the fact that Rebecca wouldn't stand for professional fouls and waived a yellow for all of them right from the start.  Much better ref than most of the blokes I've seen officiating down here lately.

  13. Might take him on a 1 year contract as a free transfer at 15k per week, but neither Burnley or Twine will accept that, so it's bye bye at the end of the season I think unless we are in the market to waste our money.

If we have seen what he can do whilst playing for a contract, I can't imagine we would see anything better having signed one.

  14. Some quick fixes for City would be to take quick throw ins and free kicks before the opposition have have a chance to set up for them.  I think Max also has to release the ball more quickly and he has an excellent throw on him.

  15. Which City are we going to see against The Terriers tomorrow?  The City that just annihilated Blackburn or the Manningball City we have seen of late?

Huddersfield are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference so will be playing for their survival and I am not sure which team we will be putting out or what they will actually be playing for other than new contracts and places in the starting 11.

A repeat of the Blackburn game will suit me fine, but I would be surprised if Huddersfield were as bad as they were.

What are "plans", and why do you need them for a football stand?

    ....Asking for a friend

I suppose Wally knows that planning permission needs to be granted before they start building it.  Didn't they forget about that before the last one.

Perhaps the rules are different for pikey camps?

  17. Wondering how many of us will be going down tonight for what is effectively a dead rubber for us, though Blackburn are too close to the drop zone for comfort.

A few won't be bothered to go to a midweek end of season game where we have little more than pride to play for, but fans are feeling a bit more positive after netting 7 points from the last 9. I can't see too many Blackburn fans making the trip either.

Anyone got the ticket sales figures as we normally get 20,000+ for most games these days, even though the real 'bums on seats' figures are probably nearer to 15/16k on occasions.
