Steve Lansdown has been a remarkable owner for our football club. I actually find the vitriol and abuse he get pretty upsetting.

Lansdown’s ambitious vision for the club has driven progress in various aspects. Whether it’s improving the facilities, embracing modern football strategies, or planning for long-term success, his leadership has set the tone for Bristol City’s evolution from a struggling league one team in a crumbling stadium, to what we have today.

Lansdown’s financial support is undoubtedly crucial, Finding an owner who can balance investment with financial responsibility is a rarity.

Let's be fair, Steves's unwavering support, especially during tough times, is a testament to his passion for the club. His willingness to stay the course and work through challenges demonstrates a deep love for Bristol City that’s not easily replicable.

But for me Lansdown’s deep-rooted connection to Bristol and the club’s local identity has been a driving force in our community involvement. Finding another owner who shares this local connection and prioritizes community engagement as much as he does would be a tall order.

While we all want the best for our club, it’s important to recognize the unique qualities that Steve Lansdown brings to the table. As we evaluate the potential for change, we should be mindful of the monumental task it would be to find an owner who could match or surpass his contribution to beloved football club.

I for one appreciate the fantastic owner we have, but I also have one eye on the future like he has. When discussing, can we try and be respectful to him on a personal level, as he has done more for this club than anyone else in its history. He is also, and always will be, one of our own.

Completely agree. Never understand the anti SL comments. The sense of entitlement from some of our fans is embarrassing

1 goal rich and son who needs kane as the provider?

Nah spurs will finish 8th again, top 4 will be arsenal, man City, Newcastle and man u again

Fair point but I think strikers at spurs have been playing in Kane’s shadow for a long time. Without him they may get a chance to shine

  3. I actually think spurs might do ok without him. Richarlison up top with Son, Maddison and Kuvelevski in behind could be frightening. Kane is a great striker but tended to slow attacks down. All depends if Richarlison can consistently find the net.

It’s been many years since I last bought replica shirt and I’m sure I’m not alone in not giving a shit who supplies our kit. To me the club shirt is a club shirt regardless which manufacturer produced it.

I really don’t understand why some posters think it’s such a big deal………….:dunno:

Couldn’t agree more. Literally irrelevant and I can never understand why fully grown adults buy and wear replica kits. Why not go the whole hog and wear the full kit with your socks pulled up. You’re not playing so why dress up like you might get subbed on

  5. I was in the home end with a couple of pompey mates today and they were very impressed by us. Commented on how fit we were and that that they couldn’t land a punch on us.
Scott and Conway both seemed to have bulked up over the summer.

  6. I genuinely feel him not signing is a blessing in disguise. It just didn’t feel right imo. I understand the need for experienced pros to be added to the squad to help the youngsters but JB never really seemed the type to organise (such as Naismith, James, Dickie) or have an eye on becoming a future manager (King). Don’t get me wrong he seems a decent guy and I’m sure wouldn’t have been a bad influence but it just didn’t seem to fit our recruitment model.
Best of luck to him wherever he ends up. He will forever be a city legend for those goals against Rovers and United - but let’s leave it there

Nothing offensive about that opinion, but is equally easy to argue the other way: coming home and feeling more comfortable allows him to give his best (endless tales of homesick footballers for whom a distant club doesn’t work out), he wants to impress friends and family who are at every game, inspired to help his first/hometown club get to the hallowed land etc. Clearly may not work out that way, but personally see it as more plausible than the easy life argument.

Fair point and I genuinely hope that’s the case. COYR

No signing is guaranteed, is it?  But it just feels like some are glossing over / ignoring the obvious quality he has by overstating hypothetical things / possible future events happening like coming back for an easy life, he might get injured, etc.  On that basis, should we never sign any player???

My point is should we resign players from the area who may be coming back to be closer to family and friends rather than for the next step in their careers. If Joe had offers from bigger clubs everyone would rave about how we’ve ‘won’ his signature, whereas the reality is, he may be coming back not purely for footballing reasons and, perhaps subconsciously, will take his foot of the pedal. It’s often said that being comfortable is the enemy of progression.

anyway, it’s only a minor concern of mine, that many people seem to have taken great offence in me airing.

Got any evidence to back up your allegations yet?

If you re-read what I said, I didn’t make any allegations, I hypothesised a potential outcome. I also said I didn’t definitely think that would happen. My point is, generally speaking, I would prefer us to sign young, hungry players who are motivated to forge a successful career and are on the up. Not players who are at the latter end of their career who have, potentially, already achieved much of what they wanted to within their careers.
I loved Joe Bryan, but we won’t necessarily get that same player back- I very much hope we do and my fears are unfounded.

Joe Bryan is too intelligent to think he would be getting an easy life under Nigel Pearson!

Sign a 3-year contract, coast through some training sessions, get bombed out to the reserves and see out your footballing career on 12k per week whilst living back close to your family.
I'm not saying I think that will definitely happen or that’s his plan but I do worry that, even subconsciously, he won’t be as motivated as he was at the start of his career.
what are his LT goals? Many will say getting his boyhood club back to the Premier League but I just don’t quite buy that. I think he wants it as a lifestyle choice which is a concern for me.

If you care enough about a football team to contribute to an online forum dedicated to it, it’s not unreasonable to have an opinion on the identity and appearance of that team, of which the kit is a key component.

    Not remotely baffling.

It’s not a key component though is it. I have zero opinion on any other teams kit. We play in red. Job done.

  12. The decision to sell Towler gets more and more baffling as time goes bye - I’ve liked pretty much everything I’ve seen of Pearson’s reign so far (minus the Simpson signing) but I just can’t get my head round selling Ryley for the bag of peanuts we apparently got for him.

    Eh?? What a ridiculous comment.

We were happy to sign Danny Simpson. After which I refused to use my season ticket for rest of season out of principle. So no, I don’t think it’s such a ridiculous comment

Should throw the book at HER. If he didn't do (I don't believe this) she has wasted so much police time,.money and effort, surely grounds for prosecution

possibly the worst comment I’ve ever read on here. Quite the achievement
