  1. Great point. I think that the Lansdown's trusted LJ implicitly. Seems to be a bit of a Mexican stand off with anyone else. Especially if they have a difference of opinion regarding footballing matters.
  2. Superb article. A club struggling to find its identity. Seems to be more about power struggles than a shared vision of success. The eyes of the world are now watching. The view of the Lansdown’s in the wider football community have changed and not in a positive way.
  3. A couple of years ago this forum was full of supporters who were almost polar opposites in opinions. There were those that were almost anti anyone and there were those who were labelled “Happy Clappers”. Many brutal arguments ensued and always seemed to result in the questioning of how true a City supporter people were. One noticeable change under the Pearson regime seems to be the appreciation of differences of opinion amongst supporters. It does seem to me that everyone has been behind the team whether they are happy with the way the club is being run or not. I don’t think this can be underestimated as this could be a very toxic place at times. I attribute this to Nigel’s visibility and honesty. Like him or loathe him at least we understood his stance. Has anyone else noticed the change amongst us as supporters over the last few years?
  4. I’m still pretty disillusioned by the decision to get rid of Nigel Pearson, even having had 24 hours to let it sink in. This could turn out to be either a master stroke or another complete balls up which sets us back. I guess time will tell? We have to get behind the new manager and the team, but right now I’m very concerned about the custodians of the club. Whilst I appreciate the money that has been invested I feel a disconnection that only appears to be growing. I’m beginning to lose interest and faith is shot to bits right now. I’m going to see how it goes over the next few weeks and months, but I do know that if we go backwards again following this latest decision then I’m done with the Lansdown regime as I just can’t see us going anywhere or taking any statement that they come up with seriously. The statement about expecting promotion with the state of the current squad is just totally unrealistic. At the moment I’m very close to calling it a day until the Lansdown’s are out of this club.
  5. Did what he was asked to do and improved the fitness of the team noticeably. Changed the mentality and made us competitive in every game despite injuries to many key players. Expectations by the board to achieve promotion under those circumstances is delusional to say the least. Thanks for committing to a project that many managers would have point blank refused to even consider seriously.
  6. The only thing I could understand is if there is a deal ready to go for investment in the club. Anything other than that then I think that the Lansdown regime is killing the club and they really have lost the plot altogether. The statement says that results are the issue. They’ve got loads out through injury, a team full of academy youngsters, Nige has had no money to spend and yet they are expecting promotion? Seriously? Promotion? They can’t even be in the same universe as everyone else if they honestly believe we should be top of the league? I love this club, but unless the sacking is due to some big sale to a serious investor then I’m done. We were lucky to have such a superb calibre of manager as Nigel Pearson who worked under ludicrous constraints but who never complained publicly. Had he been given money to spend I believe that we would have eventually reached the Premier League. I really fear that we will be plunged back into another shambles and this time there really would be nowhere to hide for the Lansdown’s. Seriously gutted by this ridiculous decision. Dumbfounded.
  7. The gift has given just in time for Gap Day. 23 years of coming
  8. Agree with a lot of the observations on this thread. There is another aspect to factor in here and that is confidence. Ipswich have started very brightly this season and so they are playing with more mental freedom and they are looser as a result. In my opinion @Harry is bang on when talking about the pass either being over hit or under hit. An example of this that I can remember is towards the end of the game (I recall we were pretty much in control of the match for the last 20 minutes) when we were in the attacking 3rd. Cornick (who gave us extra attacking impetus when he was introduced) had the ball near the touchline of the Lansdown and was facing Mark Sykes for a straightforward pass. We had bodies in the box and a bit of momentum, but the simple pass to Sykes was under cooked. Sykes had to move forward to receive the ball allowing Ipswich to close him down and snuff out the attack. One of Alan Dicks comments from years back was about passing and said “If you are passing, pass, get it there”. If you don’t do the basics well then you’re going to end up frustrated. If we have players fit and build a bit of momentum then we’ll have more belief and the football will start to flow. As @Davefevs mentioned. We’re fit and are still able to compete well when out of sorts. We can battle. With the right mindset and improved passing we’d have less battling to do and more opportunities to be creative as solid passing creates extra time and space on the ball. Very fine margins.
  9. Oh dear….The thug has left the thugs and their supporting thugs. Gutted. Guess they’ll be coming for us after all?
  10. Unlucky not to get a point out of that tonight. Controlled the last 20 minutes of the game. Just lacking that bit of quality. Yeboah needs to slow his brain down and just make a decision in his head and go with it. He’s got ability, just needs to calm it down a bit.
  11. Nigel Pearson took on a mammoth job. Honestly, how many reputable managers would have put their reputations on the line with the instruction that they would have no competitive money to spend and instead blood youngster from the academy in what is one of the most competitive leagues in world football? Coppell wasn’t prepared to do it, Hughton wasn’t prepared to do it and yet Nigel Pearson took on the challenge whilst not realising just how bad things really were until he began working with the club. He has worked within tremendously difficult financial constraints and he has also worked to change the culture within the team. It doesn’t matter if you are a star name or not. It doesn’t matter if you have played well and then had a couple of bad games. It doesn’t matter if you have fallen out of favour for a while. If you can show commitment to the cause you will get another opportunity to stake a claim for a place in the starting lineup. He is not afraid to stand up for what he believes in and he comes across as a very authentic person. Love him or loathe him he is true to his words and he doesn’t hide in press conferences either and is clear in his post match views. There is no bamboozling with scientific garbage, just an honest pure footballing assessment. He calls it out and he doesn’t hide. He has the respect of his players. Even the fans are onside with NP now that they can see that it takes time to turn things around. We are competitive in matches for the first time in a long long time and whilst inevitably mistakes are made on the pitch that happens in football whoever is in charge. We don’t go on 8 game losing streaks with NP. If SL / JL or whoever cannot appreciate the immense job that NP has done then I’m afraid they don’t deserve him. I cannot think of any manager who would have taken the job under those circumstances and made such a compelling case to be offered a new contract? There will be many a raised eyebrow if we don’t secure his services and not just from inside the club. I cannot get my head round why the issue hasn’t been discussed when the good work that he has done is so abundantly clear to almost everyone?
  12. Brewers 4 - Fewers 1. Singing the blues. Coming for us.
  13. Dear BCC, We finks we’d better wivdraw are back of a fag packet plannin permission for are new stand as it’s at least firty foot igher than we fought, we ant fought of what to do wiv disableds an that. Macky buggers, probably reflect shit loads of light and blind aff a Bristol) to save us from ‘avin to keep loads a fifty pees fer the lectric like. We’ll knock up a new design on a A4 envelope and fax it to you sometime in the next few munce. Please let it go frew cuz we ain’t gonna get da Fruit Market fer free after all an weem da gas innit? 14. It's so all of the water can flood the gardens of the Green Party Ted lovers.
  15. Yep. Ageing and signed from the Sags. How the tables have turned ?
  16. (To the tune of 19 by Paul Hardcastle) In 1965 Bristol Rovers wanted a brand new Super Stadium It was different in many ways, the cheeky bastards wanted funding Since World War 2 the amount of potential new ground sites is more than 26 They’re Bristol Rovers 2015 Br….Br….Br….Br….Br…..Br…..Br…. Bristol Rovers 2015
  17. They talk about the new owner coming in and go through 4 different scenarios of why the Fruit Market might have stopped since he came in, but not a single one of those options included him possibly not being the multi billionaire with endless reserves of cash to throw down the drain for a completely lost cause! Could he just be another complete charlatan with a nice watch? Or maybe could he have other plans for the club? Like burying them and developing the land at Horfield for something more profitable perhaps? Wally is universally loved. There is no affinity with the kebab man. Easy for him to just sell them out is it not? They don’t even seem to question the possibility that they could just be on a path to becoming another Bury FC?
  18. GasCast The last 10 minutes is worth a listen. First bit talks about how they were having a party to celebrate JCH’s homecoming and they were getting up to the minute updates from someone who was ITK. Then at 11pm they realised that the deal wasn’t happening and describe the celebration as turning into what they describe as ‘more like a funeral’
  19. They suggested on their latest Gas Podcast that the club should just fold altogether. Not just yet…..we’re having fun. Don’t stop the parrrrrrrrrtay!
  20. The delusion is strong in this one Some think that the new kebab man who has a 55% stake in the tinpot outfit has come in and decided that the Fruitihad isn’t favourable enough for Da Gas and has better plans for the future….??? Honestly, their delusion is off the scale.
  21. To add to the growing interest in football documentaries. Rovers have released their own ‘exclusive’ for 2023. Available from the club shack on VHS only. A must for all deluded Sags and Gurt Ted’s
