My son ( 7 at the time) was explaining to his grandparents about the match we had just been to and said the referee was hopeless : " Everyone was singing- ' the referee's a whacker'"

We used to meet up at the 'Try Again' off North St- very peaceful pub and would often get a small number of away supporters in there and no trouble and a great way to chat to the 'opposition' as fellow supporters. One saturday in Div3 ( JJ or TC era) a group of about 15-20 ( maybe more) Millwall were running down North St away from police and a group of about 5-6 burst into the Try Again, punched the nearest guy and ran out again. It happened so quickly that , I'm sad to admit, there was a deeply comedic element to it. No real injury and the guy who was fine got bought several drinks.

Yep- good luck for the future JP. No I disagree . A true cynic might suggest that a glowing tribute from his former employer might help lead to him being back in a job sooner than later and off the wage bill. Just saying like. In the meantime, I'm not remotely bothered he's gone but very bothered about the manner in which he went which was equivalent to a keeper kicking a ball into his own goal.

To be caught out by by one questionable release clause in the last week is bad enough but to be hit by a second release clause in the same space of time is rank amateur.

Well, he does also have his game reserve in Botswana. His Falcon private jet flies direct from Lulsgate or Guernsey in about 12 hrs so if the climate in the Channel Isles becomes somewhat tedious then he can pop over for a bit of R&R with current temperatures around 27. Meanwhile, temperatures at The minimal seem to be running rather high since the transfer of your best player for a fee equivalent to a tank of aviation fuel. It's not all bad news tho'.... Jake Gosling has scooped your lot a satisfying £36,000 for his services as a Gibraltar International. If he gets selected another 1000 times in qualifying competitions then you've got yourselves a new stadium. Happy days.

If that really does end up being the case then it will go down as one of the most glorious moments of City/gas rivalry in history and unsurpassed in its irony. Today has been a bright shining beacon in weeks of fog. Now get back in your box- I've got a new striker to welcome to Bristol.

The good news is that with LJ not remotely afraid to make a sub early on he can make a decision based on who's going to affect the game most. I'm pretty happy with either starting with the other a very useful Plan B. Both Callum and Luke have a part to play and it's a long way from previously looking at the bench and thinking 'I hope no one get's injured'.

Just another thing.... Isn't it kind of cool that we have our "Man in Manila" @havanatopia doing the match day thread each week? Thousands of miles away on the far side of the earth , in a different time zone , committed City fan and definitely original. No offence to others but it's become part of the match day ritual for me and he's made the position his own!

Quite so. Also more time to see Adam Matthews get to full match fitness and really would like to see GON and Korey in midfield asap . The whole set up is very different to this time last season. We all really hope to see us challenging at the top but I'm not really sure that's too likely although I'm pretty sure we won't be challenging at the bottom either.

Ah- good to know as drinking the draught. Yep- good call. So, and in conclusion: During match it's OTIB washed down with a West Country Proper Job, a further pint of HSD ( high speed Dowda) if appropriate, a pint of Rattler if things aren't going to plan at half time and it remains Doom or Tribute at full time. As for the venue- it's going to be the Ship Inn- hopefully in recognition of Burton's goalie.
