  1. Been reminiscing about the 98-99 season to cheer myself up.  On 19th September that season we lost 3-1 at Ipswich with, I believe, a central defensive pairing of Swenenber (spelt phanetically, the correct spelling had z's and silent h's etc) and Julian Watts.  Am predicting the same outcome today :(

    Are you spelling phanetically, phonetically?

In order to cheer myself up, I just think of last season's swindle match. It puts a smile on my face every time. As does the resulting song.

  2. Much as I remain positive about our team ( really I do) - at the moment I struggle to see anything other than another effortless 3 points in the bag for Ipswich.

Just so long as we play with passion and heads don't drop like against Reading.

Football's a funny old game- a few months ago I expected to win every game and now I expect to lose.

Summer chickens roosting in Autumn home.

  3. Looking forward to this game...I like Burnley...a good honest football club.

I have absolutely no idea how this will pan out....obviously hoping for a thumping City win....especially as a good friend is a Burnley fan and his son is one of the coaching staff....so plenty of banter to be had today :-)

Well if you read what that other Spuski fella is saying on other threads then we'll be soundly beaten by an amazing and much better club, Cotts will resign at 5p.m. , any of our players who are remotely interested in having a future in football will hand in a transfer request and Lansdown will call in the administrators.

I'm now too depressed to even bother going.

  4. My god there are some mindless comments on here. Just think back to the JPT at home to the gas. Quite Simply the best atmosphere I have even been in during a football match and I am an old git. Do we really want to see that rivalry die. Sainsbury have sh1t on rovers as they have shit on numerous others, how would you feel if the boot was on the other foot. All this guff of we hate the rovers, the gas took the piss in our hour of need is not better than play ground politics. It's about time we showed them some support. Long live the rivalry that I grew up with. You never know how much you miss things until it's gone, it's then too late.

Perhaps you missed the Swindon at home match? I loved beating the gas in the jpt particularly when one of our own scored but home v swindle after all that happened and all that was at stake? That was the best ever home atmosphere in a local derby for me.

I'm gonna miss neither club whatever happens to them. There's always other rivalries who will take their place - like  the one's who play in Red  err blue and wear velcro gloves.

  5. I don't think loyalty has any relevence today when there are two spaces on the bench. I agree in principle but what today says to me is that in SC's eyes we have no other players capable to make a positive impact in our squad. That is a worry to me!

Other than JB, he clearly thought along the same lines at the start of this season and things have turned out brilliantly. No cause for worry when the club's transfer dealings are really improving.

That the Academy is failing to produce first teamers- it's more of a fact than anything. If there's no one currently good enough then SC has to use what is and hope he gets the players he needs over the next month or so.

  6. You're missing the point. We don't have enough first team players to fill the bench. Only 5 on the bench today. Nobody's saying a first team player should be dropped from the bench for a youngster. I agree Cotts is loyal to his team and wouldn't do that. What we're questioning is why hasn't Cotts included a couple of youngsters to make up the numbers even if he wasn't going to out them on?

Maybe it's just that. If he has no intention of putting them on maybe he thinks it's a pointless exercise.

Ah yes- I did miss the point. I thought there was one spare sub not two. Either way, as Cunningham, Elliott and Wagstaff have all been part of the first team then I can see why he wants to stick with them. It does indeed seem pointless ( and extra expense) to have a couple of yoof with no prospect of playing. SC is not trigger happy when it comes to substitutions often waiting til 89th minute.

  7. Re: youngsters, what today says to me is that Cotts really thinks they aren't ready, that worries me in terms of the academy. If they are almost there you think they can be given a chance on the bench, but the void must be so big that Cotts would not want to put them on. Still, only a small negative on what has been a great season.

Perhaps but maybe it's just that SC is fiercely loyal to his first team squad and there's just not enough of a good reason ( for him) to send one of his players to watch from the stands. Steve will want to end the season with a couple more wins and knows how best to achieve that.
