  1. I was in the grandstand above the enclosure. I recall several Hereford players dropping to their knees when the late winner was scored. I think that was the first time I had witnessed such despair in footballers in the flesh, as obviously the Hereford players were well psyched up to want to play at Wembley.

So, I'd just like to say to all the cockwombles on here with your glass half full ideas that we're going to walk into the pray-offs this season you need to literally give your heads a wobble. FFS, just get a grip. Those billy big bollox who look at the likes of Florist and Crapdiff and think we've a right to be there well I've news for you petal; we're still clearing deadwood. We may be a sleeping giant but we're a country mile from there. Fact. All these happy clappers just boil my piss. Melts. We've been a basket case for too long now and if we could find a manager to get us to our rightful place then I'd drive him to the club myself. It wasn't a job for Cotts, and it's a waste of time checking who's at the Avon Gorge hotel - at the last presser SL made it clear that NP is going nowhere and that NW will never get a look in. So get real pal. It's not that we're bad per se, but we've got too many bedwetters with agendas who won't get behind the club when they need it and come over as real belters. Source, you say? OTIB. Good night.

Thank goodness, someone on here who talks our language.

  3. Wigan are unbeaten in their first two matches and I can imagine their supporters think they have made a solid return to Championship football. City, by contrast, have been beaten in both opening games.

Yet if City beat Wigan in our next league game we go above Wigan.

As I think Bazooka Joe stated earlier, look how Nottingham Forest started last season and look where they ended.

I was in the same stand, pretty certain quite low down though. Don’t think it was a very big crowd, bit of snow around that day?

Yes wish I had been lower down. Yes I think the attendance was something like 10,000 which looked pretty empty at Hillsborough and I remember getting absolutely soaked before getting on the coach for Sheffield.

I was at the game, but must have been lower down as don’t have the same recollection as you, unless you were in a different part of the ground?

I was in the Leppings Lane End but very top row. I remember we came alive in the second half and probably deserved a draw but lost one nil. Danny Wilson was manager of Sheff Wednesday about a year before he took over at Ashton Gate. Wednesday were in the Premier League relegation zone and City in League One

I think this has been done on several occasions on here and my answer is always the same.

However well intended the family/friends intent is, it doesn’t seem “right” that we acknowledge some fans with a minutes applause while other fans don’t get the same. You could have someone who went home and away for 50 years but because the family aren’t that “Twitter literate” they have a muted 2nd minute applause and nothing else, whereas someone else who may have attended 20 games in their life gets the full ovation.  Neither is a lesser fan but because one arranger shouts louder, there is a difference.

Also, as said, what happens if there is a sustained attack during the designated minute and it’s missed? How do the family feel then

I totally understand the families asking for the acknowledgment but we seem to have a request every game.

The club got this totally right last season with the Swansea “memorial game”. Pictures on the big screen and names on hoardings, photo flyers in the shop. Minutes applause before the game for all. One game every year, everyone equal, everyone acknowledged, one club, one family.

That is brilliantly put. Well done and I fully agree.

Nice. Someone just needs to Photoshop an extra tier on the Ayteo to make it look spectaculor.

When I sat in the Upper Lansdown for the England U21 game v Poland three of four years back, I kept thinking I was going to topple over and end up in the Lower Lansdown (I was a row from trhe back as well). It was a bit discombobulating to say the least,

I've been near the top of the Upper Lansdown and know what you mean, but have to say it's not as steep as some grounds. At Hillsborough back in 1999, I think, in the cup under Pulis, I was in the very back row and kept holding onto the back of the stand. I don't think it was until about 25 minutes of the match left that I let go of the thing and stopped feeling dizzy. It was so steep I kept feeling like I could easily fall to the tier below. I'm not one for those steep stands at all.

If we want to use “stats” of all City managers, then shouldn’t we do it for games at this level only?  It’s effing futile imho, even if you do that, but at least means you have a fairer comparison.

I couldn't agree more. The top three, effectively, on that list for least percentage of losses include two, Brian Tinnion and Danny Wilson, who never managed a game at this level and one, Cottrell, who had a half season at this level that was so bad that he was relieved of his duties despite having walked the League One title just months earlier. It's daft as it's not a level playing field

  9. Slightly similar situation to when City got promoted under Ward and bought Soren Anderson, Tony Thorpe and Ade Akinbiyi. All big money signings (although Anderson was remarkably cheap considering his calibre). It was over concentration in one area when other areas needed to be addressed. All three were great players but at most only two could be played and it was discovered that none of them complimented each other's play, so Steve Torpey had one of the striker berths as he brought out the best in which of the three was chosen to play alongside him (usually Akinbiyi). It was very bad planning. Anderson understandably left and I think Thorpe would've too had we been able to recoup half of the million we paid out. Thankfully he remained and showed his worth the following season etc after Akinbiyi had been sold.

Similarly, we went top heavy in Sammie's position as we already had Patterson and then brought in Palmer for megabucks.

Odd that it's white vs yellow. Normally you would expect one to change.

WBA and Everton switched to their second kits for the 1968 FA Cup Final, WBA played in white with red socks and Everton yellow shirts and socks with blue shorts. Although it didn't really matter as the vast majority watched it in black and white.

No, I just recorded / looked up points awarded at the time. 3 pts for win was introduced for 81 - 82 season.

If it had been three points for a win in1976, Bolton not City would have been promoted.

    City W19 D 15 = 38 + 15 = 53 pts.   3 pts for a win would be 19 pts more = 72.

    Bolton W 20 D 12 = 40 + 12 = 52 pts.  3 pts for a win = 20 pts more  = 72 and they had a better goal difference than City

I'm so glad I wrote to Alan Hardaker in 1975 telling him to delay the introduction of 3 points for a win for six years.

  12. How did you assemble the points, from points actually awarded so in the days of two points for a win you added two points, then when it became three points for a win you added three points, or did you convert two point victories into three points although at the time City never had that amount of points?
