It’s the same where I live in Wiltshire now . I went to college in Swindon for two years and the whole time I was there I only met one Swindon fan everyone else supported Liverpool , arsenal,Chelsea or utd . When asked why they didn’t support Swindon they said it’s because their ?

You forgot Tottenham. In fairness you only need to look toward the London slum clearances and the large number of Londoners who were promised "a house in the Country". Then subsequently wound up in bloody Swindon. I lived in Swindon for 10 years (worked there for nearer 20) and was surprised to see "Arsenal in the Community" one lunchtime down in the shopping centre. Most STFC fans seemed to live outside of Swindon (in Calne, Chippenham, Devizes etc)

Your post got me thinking (I’m similar and could name the teams , results , scorers through 70s and 80s but last 10-15 years , clueless

But , for a bit of fun I tried just now to name the Sunderland 1973 Final side - Without looking , I’m short of three

Can you or anyone name the eleven from memory ? ?

Better than me. I remembered 7 of em

  3. Grandads Team - Bristol City

    Dads team - Bristol City.

    Mums team - None.

Local team - Bath City. League wise (Geographically)...um....City

    Your team - City. Obvs.

    Kids team - zero kids.

Claim to fame? Loose really. I have relatives who played for City, Gas and Swindon and another who worked at the Saints Academy

I would say so. I live in Wiltshire and the majority of Bristol Rovers fans I know of are 50+. A lot more younger Bristol City fans around this area.

I also live in Wiltshire. Imagine my shock at driving through Corsham yesterday evening and spotting a young un in da famous quarters. I nearly lost my appetite

Anyone wishing those ****s well ain’t City in my opinion

50 odd years of support for City says I'm a City fan. I'm mostly ambivalent about the Gaseous ones tbh. A local Derby sets me off, but them coming 3rd in the Gloucestershire and District league doesn't wind me up one jot

The Derby keeper got sent off and Paul Simpson scored a hat trick against us that day. Wayne Allison scored the winner with a perfect header. 3-4 to City at the old Baseball Ground. What a dump that place was……

    I remember watching it live.

Not sure "dump" is the word I'd use. it was certainly old, full of atmosphere (at least it was for that game). I liked the Baseball Ground

It would be better if they were back in the Conference. At least they went quiet for a while and crawled under their stones instead of singing the blues every five minutes.

They would have loved it had we got relegated this season so how anyone can have a love-in with them is beyond me.

I definitely don't have a "love in" with them, but they do amuse..... as did Donald Trump. Get Promoted from L2? I don't care. Get relegated from L2? I don't care. They make me smile, they are occasionally ball achingly nauseating but as long as they keep their distance...I'm happy

I can’t remember Rogers’s running gait, just his own goals! ?

Dave Rogers always gave everything. Yes he made the odd mistake but he never claimed he was an International Class defender. In many ways he was/is Mr Bristol City

    Come on, The Vegans. FTG.

I suspect the jig is up for Swindon now.

I agree. Swindon are too far away, but its a giant improvement on how they started the season. Suspect the Gastards will finish third, but League 1 will be a very tough ask for them

My first visit to Bramall Lane in 1958 resulted in the following.

Sitting in the cafe in John Street right outside the  stadium and drinking tea with United players.

Free Complimentary ticket from Alan Hodgkinson, the current England Goalkeeper.

    A 4-0 defeat.

Bottle of beer on train home from Bert Tindill and in the same carriage as the City squad.

Lived up the hill from Bramall Lane for a while and wasn't averse to sitting on their Kop End to watch the odd midweeker. Decent set of fans!

He played in midfield, I think he was in the same apprentice group as Andy Llewellyn 82-84 ish, he was from Frome or nearby.

Can't remember Nigel Smith but certainly remember Nigel Hawkins. Bit unlucky with injury iirc
