  1. I was told once that I did not have to be friends with him. We just had to work together. So, as long as there is respect and honesty between Pearson and the squad, everything should be fine.
  2. I agree with you that we should have higher expectations than my example. But in some ways, it doesn't matter if we finish 12th, 17th, or 21st. The simple aim for this season is to not be relegated. Staying in the Championship is absolutely essential. As for how we stay up, home wins will be essential. And to help this task, we need another striker who will convert enough chances to help get those wins. We, SL, has enough money to buy any player on the planet. It's how we comply with FFP that will be the bit of financial genius to do it.
  3. Give it a rest. You really don't understand how difficult it is to redress the massive damage done in the last five years by the "Unmentionables". One point above the bottom three at the end of season will be a magnificent achievement by Pearson, coaches, medical staff, playing staff and supporters.
  4. Managing people is relatively easy for the good managers as they can stay remote from the mass. Coaching needs are so different. Being firm yet being friendly can be a disaster if the latter prevails. And with a group of mickey taking, young footballers, it is very easy for a coach to lose control and respect.
  5. Not a clue. No segregation. Away fans were usually spread out on all sides, possibly not at Stretford End. So hearing a lone voice in 47,000 is difficult. This was our second win at Old Trafford in four seasons. That was the day that I lost any respect and affection for Man U. The boy who cried all night after Munich, had grown up. Their manager Docherty, slagged City terribly to cover up their inadequacies. Donnie Gillies specialised in winning away games 1-0. Remember also Leeds!!!
  6. All people who originate from Tonypandy are top quality and integrity whatever their line of work is. My Father and Grandmother both told me this when I was very young. Neither if them ever lied to me so the referee Mr Don must have been excellent!
  7. A defeat like that is devastating for everyone involved at the Club. From Lansdown and Pearson to a five year old child. We know that they had not recovered at West Brom but it is how we perform against Barnsley that will show what we are made of? Rebuilding the team's confidence will show how good Pearson and his senior pros are at man management. I can't go this Saturday because I've just had an operation that will take a while to recover from. I will be glued to the radio and would like everyone there to make a real noise in support of Our Bristol City Team.
  8. I know nothing about the last sentence. In fact if memory is correct he signed Irishman Tommy Casey in March 1959 and he lasted at City until 1963 so I would not think that he was a problem in that respect. Dermot Curtis, the Republic of Ireland centre forward had left before Doherty arrived. He brought in Gordon Hopkinson, born in Sheffield, to replace the aged Ginger Peacock at right back. Also Roger Collinson, born South Yorkshire, another right back. The other two signed were John McCann, born Glasgow but no indication on religion found and Malcolm Graham, born in South Yorkshire. I never heard during this time about any racist, religious problems with the dressing room. In fact the split dressing room only became public knowledge, as far as I know, a couple of years after Doherty left the Club.
  9. Do we really need to know about anyone's sexual, religious, food, ethnicity, etc preferences? As long as they do their job to the best of their ability, obey laws ofthe country, be a decent person in relation to others, why do we need this information.
  10. He Kelly stayed with City for personal/family reasons.
  11. So was I. What a long time ago! Dennis Bailey QPR, ex Rovers loan, also got three a few years after Mabbutt. I don't know of any others until Salah.
  12. The move to Ashton Gate has had several effects. Firstly a significant increase in attendance figures. 20,000 plus! All seated has had some negative effect on crowd support noise simply because with over 10,000 ST's, the more noisy fans are spread out. The negative at any rugby match in an all seated stadium? Too many just there to drink, drink and drink some more. Are they really supporters or just out on a drinking social with mates? From five minutes after kick off to end of each half. This is the same whether Ashton Gate, Cardiff and Twickenham. If they allow drinks on terraces at football it will be intolerable. Only solution is to shut the bars during play.
  13. I wonder if NP will bring him back on Jan 1 to play left centre in a three or left back in a four. Either way it would leave Pring to go left side midfield in three, four or five. The may make errors but are both hardworking and will help each other in defence and attack.
  14. As supporters we have to be confident because if we show any reservations before and early in the game, it could transfer to the players at a time when they really do need us behind them!
  15. I believe we need ten points from the next ten games to stay away from the bottom five. Ten Nil Nil's will do.
  16. Why were they both in England jobs? Great coaches technically? Or not hard enough with players? Too chummy with them? Maybe a bit like Holden with such as Paterson?
  17. You apparently have some close contact in the club and as a very long standing supporter, I appreciate your comments. We've had enough dressing room problems over the years, the days of Rance and a useless Board in the First Division. I consider that the worst one was the Doherty management in 1958 when he created a totally split squad due to an inability to understand that a promise from HD was sacrosanct. Relegation followed that event and it is possible that the same will happen this time. Nigel Pearson appears to be one of those who will build us back again and I'm almost praying that we can keep away from the drop zone until he can get a couple or three in in January. Otherwise he'll need a Third Division promotion.
  18. I never saw Lee, bloody wonderful, Johnson do anything other than disappear down the tunnel when we lost a league match! When we won he would be leading the players. Pearson has a terribly difficult job to sort out the mess we are in. He doesn't need to a visit to the away end for a foul mouthed slagging by those foul mouthed, flares in corridors morons. @MelksRed
  19. If he's not considered first choice, I would have thought he should be on the bench.
  20. Actually just before the Roker match but that's me being pedantic. Albion chucked everything at us in the second half. The crowd at the Brummie Road end did their best to suck the ball into the net. One effort from Johnston hit a post, then crossbar and then the other post. But the most amazing thing of the evening happened at the Hawthorn pub before the game. It was jammed with red and one of our group of four, got on his knees and crawled to the bar. Four pints returned about two minutes later!
  21. My Uncle lived most of his married life in 5, Gigg Lane. No longer with us but I'm thrilled for all Bury fans.
