Frome will be right up for it.

League title is still potentially there for them, they've had a full week between games and 2 years ago when they were both last in the playoffs Farm went there and turned them over in the semis, even though Frome were the favourites to win the playoffs outright.

My mates the Frome manager, I think the number of games recently caught up with them so a week off will help, will be interesting to see what happens, especially if word gets out that Wimborne are losing!

  2. Announcements to take effect starting this Saturday, April 20

    FROM MLSSOCCER.COM

NEW YORK (Tuesday, April 16, 2024)– Major League Soccer today announced that the Off-Field Treatment Rule, Timed Substitution Rule, and In-Stadium VAR Announcements will be implemented in MLS games beginning this Saturday, April 20.

    Off-Field Treatment Rule

The Off-Field Treatment Rule allows medical professionals with time to assess and treat players off the field of play in a less pressurized environment.

If a player with a suspected injury remains on the ground for more than 15 seconds, the referee will stop play and wave the medical crew onto the field to evaluate the player. When safe, the player will be removed from the field and remain off the field for a minimum of two minutes for further assessment and treatment.

First implemented in MLS NEXT Pro midway through the 2022 season and continued through the entirety of the 2023 season, the Off-Field Treatment Rule has allowed medical staffs time to treat players, while also allowing match play to resume quickly.

Exceptions to the Off-Field Treatment Rule include instances of potential head injury, goalkeeper injuries, serious medical events, and fouls resulting in yellow or red cards.

    Timed Substitution Rule

Maximizing effective match time, the Timed Substitution Rule requires that a substituted player exit the field within 10 seconds. Failure to exit from any point on the field within the 10 seconds will cause the incoming player to wait for a 60-second holding period, before entering the game at the next stoppage. During the holding period and prior to the substitute entering, the team will play down a player. Exceptions to the rule include injury and goalkeeper substitutions.

Enacted in MLS NEXT Pro during the 2023 season, 99.7% of the more than 3,200 substitutions were completed in 10 seconds or less.

    In-Stadium VAR Announcements

VAR decisions will be explained and announced by the referee to fans in stadium and broadcast viewers at home.

The new sporting initiatives were previously announced during the 2024 MLS preseason, but were postponed due to labor negotiations between the Professional Referee Organization (PRO) and the Professional Soccer Referees Association (PRSA)

Other initiatives including the Return to Play Equity protocol and stoppage time clock, took effect at the start of the 2024 MLS regular season.

No probably not not unless they were a Man U fan, player or manager .

And there wasn’t much in it I agree but if that goal had been for Man U would there be the same fuss about it being disallowed ?

    More my point really .

I think if Man Utd had a last minute winner chalked off there would have been a lot of fuss!

Would people say the same had it been a Man U goal ruled out though ?

They do every single week, about any crazy decision that's made, regardless of the teams.

VAR was brought in to overturn clear and obvious errors, and pre VAR, if the linesman had not given the Cov goal offside, there would have been nobody claiming that he actually was offside and Man Utd were robbed by a poor decision.

For me, it's the fact that VAR allows for a level of fussiness you (rightly) could not get with the naked eye.

Offside was ultimately created to stop players gaining an advantage by just hanging around the goal waiting to score. Pre-VAR,  a player needed to be far enough offside to gain an advantage in order for a decision to be correctly given. Otherwise the referee or assistant simply could not possibly see it, and there was a clear rule the attacking team was given the benefit of the doubt if it was not obvious.

Now you've got several minutes of studying camera angles to establish a player was marginally ahead in a way that

    a) could not possibly confer an advantage to the attacking player

    b) an attacking player could not be expected to notice and correct themselves against.

I agree that, by the letter of the law, Haji Wright was offside. I do not believe anyone could possibly argue that Wright gained any kind of advantage by being offside or that, had he been onside, the goal would not have bene scored. I also don't think anyone could claim Wright was at fault for being offside to such a fractional degree that he could not possibly have noticed and corrected without the aid of a replay and video cameras. So what you get in practice is a player who has made no correctable error and gained no possible advantage getting penalised for an infraction that nobody could have been expected to notice without watching multiple replays of the decision.

By the letter of the law, it's the correct decision but I don't see how anyone could argue it's a decision that makes football better or a fairer game. I think the whole "a play is offside if his right testicle is fractionally ahead of the defender" is a nonsensical law, especially once you apply cameras and slow things down to check the testicular configurations. To my mind, the only way to make offside and VAR compatible with the spirit of the game is either to

    a) only correct decisions that the Assistant or Referee could reasonably have spotted

    b) change the law so a player's whole body needs to be ahead of the defender for an offside to occur.

  6.  VAR once again killing the joy of football! Pre VAR if the officials didn't flag it offside, then lookjng at the replays nobody really would have argued the decision as it was close

I can remember the days when Weston getting more than 250 at a game was a big thing

Never thought I would see the day with an average over 1000.

    Oh yes, brilliant idea!

Pearsons first 24 the squad was shocking, full of players who didn't give a rats ass, most of which were overpaid and needed getting rid.

Mannings first 24 the squad was motivated, there was a real togetherness. They played for the shirt and us. He also had many injured players returning so no, that comparison just doesn't work!

Yeh but I don't think that's the point, you are comparing apples and oranges really, it's different situations.  I agree LM has not kicked on and I don't rate him myself and wanted Nige to stay so no bias from me, but the statistics here are loaded to make the point that LM hasn't done any better than Nige, rather than trying to pick more like for like stats for a true comparison

    Manning compared to Pearson.

Manning has now been in charge for 24 league games, here are the stats comparing his 24 league games with Pearson’s last 24 league games in charge.

    Nigel Pearson

    Won 8

    Lost 11

    Drew 5

    Liam Manning

    Won 8

    Lost 11

    Drew 5

Yep, identical and Pearson was sacked.

A few references follow which apparently informed the decision to sack NP and appoint LM.

    1. We currently have a squad deemed capable of winning promotion/ being at the top end of the league (JL/BT) 100% the aim this season is promotion (GM) “This squad should be at the top end”, “the aim is promotion and we wouldn’t have made the change if we didn’t think we could achieve that”, “there would be no point in making the change now if we were happy to just bumble along for the rest of this season”.
    2. We (the Board) know (apparently for the first time) what we want from our new Head Coach which will include playing in a particular way (see next point)  (JL/BT)
    3. We (the Board) know our style of football, throughout all teams, we will play progressively, on the front foot, pressing, attacking,  showing aggression and pace (JL/ BT)
    4. The Board opted to sack an experienced manager, citing recent results as the reason (at the time we occupied 15th place with 18 points 5 wins, 6 defeats and 3 draws) our form in the six games pre the sacking was lost 4, won 2.  LMs last six games = lost 5, won 1 (scored 4 and conceded 9 )
    5. We were only five points off a play- off spot when NP was sacked and only three points before the Cardiff game, which we faced with an injury ravaged squad.
    6. We are in a really good place as a Club and it is set up nicely for somebody to take forward (BT)
    7. ‘We aren’t doing as well as we wanted to and that’s what the decision was based upon’ (JL) We had a three year plan with NP and the objective for this year was to be challenging at the top end of the table (GM)

Lucky you didn't compare with Nige's first 24 games in charge as well, I remember we seemed to lose most of them!  That's Statistics for you!

There’s no blue in our flag . White home red away , simple .

Who cares?  Look at Italys famous blue shirts, remind me where the blue is in their flag? (And no I don't need a lesson on why it's blue I know)

Yes I do . I born & brought up on a council estate. Back then you were brought up to work hard for everything . That no longer seems to apply for many . I’m assuming you haven’t been around such people , lucky you .

So it's just hyperbole.  That's what I thought but thanks for confirming!

Read the follow up post before you call me a ******* moron . I know for a fact there are plenty of self entitled lay abouts that don’t want to work & think the world owes them a living . I’m not a Tory or read the express or any paper for that matter. It’s a matter of fact there are many who would rather lay about & let me or any hard working person pay their benefits with our tax money .
Is there any other aspersions you’d like to cast mr high & mighty . If you don’t like what I got to say , put me on ignore & **** off 😊

Out of interest how do you know for a fact that there are plenty of self entitled lay abouts?  How do you define plenty?  How do you know this is a fact?  I assume you have verified statistics?

You also say it's a matter of fact there are many who would rather lay about & let you or any hard working person pay their benefits with our tax money.  How do you know this is a fact?  How do you define many?

Possibly, but you would have thought the two high risk games would also be ones Sky would show.

Elephant in the room of course is having to move games for the rugby also…

Plus games v Swansea and Cardiff are often moved
