  1. I’m not sure it’s Bentley’s keeping NP doesn’t trust, but his attitude. Not sure Bents has found his way into the gaffers tent yet. For all our sakes, someone may have to eat some humble pie.
  2. Still love Flint. Caught late- no fuss, appeals or dramatics. Didn’t even rub his leg.
  3. Quite- and you could have got two £10 season tickets for the price of a single lunch.
  4. Is this the right contact? If not, I’d appreciate a steer. A reluctance to accept I’m a senior anything means I’ve never bothered before, but Sir Geoff was my idol when I became a City fan in the early 70’s, and so I’d happily pay £20 for a dodgy burger if he’s got a book out.
  5. Everyone seems convinced that we will escape relegation this season, but I’m not. The fact that the club seems desperate to secure good offers for Mass. and Bentley, without any additions this window to an already below average squad, terrifies me. I do appreciate that tough talk is easy, as is spending someone else’s money, but I think I would do whatever it takes to survive now, and take the consequences in due course. It seems to me that when other championship clubs start to report horrendous losses, as they assuredly will, the pressure will mount on the EFL to relax the rules temporarily. Either way, I can’t conceive of dropping a division, and any risk of doing so is too high.
  6. Proves the old adage that the only qualification required for a manager is that he’s completely different to the previous bloke. ‘Young, progressive and up and coming’ was basically LJ. Which is why we went for an older, experienced bit of a bastard.
  7. Not remotely pissed off. Nor, as a spoken supporter of NP do I want him sacked. And I know SL can’t afford to buy or sack anyone- though he will if he panics about relegation. But I’ve watched professional footballers for 50 years and know a lot of current and ex players. NP works them hard. He’s in their face continuously and you sign up or ship out. No one’s buying them, so shipping out ain’t an option. There’s an easier life out there- like under Holden, and if they ship 8/9 it could be tantalisingly close.
  8. Players now making their pitch for a change in management.
  9. Blimey yes- I have a memory of a copper desperately yelling “Cromwell , leave” as his own dog sank its jaws into his arm.
  10. I’m all for ‘vocal’ support. As a supporter from the early 70’s, I miss the old match atmosphere as much as the next man. Or at least some of it. I’ve no desire at all to have to stand again in front of the guy in the Grandstand Enclosure (just to the right of the tunnel) who used to yell “n*****” every time a black player touched the ball. ( Every time. Every game. Season after season. Literally every black player. And not one of us told him to “f******” shut up.) But the advocates of a ‘boisterous’ atmosphere are going to have to be a bit more specific. Again, as a supporter from the 70’s, this could mean anything from a team of cheerleaders comprised of porn stars to a pitched riot in the Open End. Not to mention (occasionally) pissing on the terraces as the queues /crush were too great to get out to the bogs at half time.
  11. Pretty common in London. Around Wembley the pubs/bars all have signs like ‘Matchday prices start at 430pm’. Cost of additional security, you understand, and definitely not just blatant profiteering against footy fans.
  12. 3 points- absolutely precious, as this is assuredly a relegation scrap. Brilliant comeback and result. Good to win at home as well. Well done NP and the team.
  13. “Good strong challenge that took the player a little bit”- could only be Millwall + red button commentary.
  14. “You’re not singing anymore” is a high risk chant in the current circumstances.
  15. Think Kalas having a decent game - he could be decent consistently with a solid partner!
  16. Giving Towler plenty of easy ball- looks like they’re trying to build him back up.
  17. This was an age when, according to Norman Hunter’s biog., the players were responsible for laundering their own kit. That being said, Joe Royle also lived in Congresbury, and his gaff was notably bigger.
  18. At the peak of his playing career, he bought a small 3 bedroom house in Congresbury, directly opposite my mate Rob (still the best butcher in N Somerset, incidentally). When decorating, with the curtains tied up, he was clearly in view, so Rob and I sat in his bedroom for hours just watching, awe struck, sustained with squash made by Rob’s mum. And that, my young forum chums, is footy fanaticism.
  19. I think the fact that I’m plunged into a cycle of depression twice a week virtually every week is enough for me.
  20. Perhaps Pearson realises Bentley is a potential target and is looking to take him out of the shop window? LJ was reconciled to the continuous loss of his best players. Like to think that Pearson will put up more of a fight.
  21. He’s a complete, utter arse. Recklessly unprofessional, dangerously provocative. Should have been red carded. Just wish that for once in the 50 odd years I’ve watched City we had a player or two like this in our squad. Suspect Pearson thinks the same. Happy to endorse the Corinthian spirit in sport- just wish that for once we had a bastard king of the dark arts as one of our own.
  22. Becoming 100% convinced that this is a relegation season. We play badly and lose. We play with heart, commitment and some attacking flair, and lose. Seen a few relegations since 1972. Not every one looked like this. But every one that looked like this has ended in the drop.
  23. Good lad. Outrageous armchair, but the towels hopelessly jammed on the radiator suggests he’d be a natural fit for our household. Certainly think I’d prefer HNM as a guest than Henry- and I like Henry.
