  1. I read a headline where he said not bothered about booing and been booed out of bigger stadiums. That sounds like an insult to the club when I see that. His track record outside of Leicester is absolute shit. Can take that billy big bollocks bullshit(how about that alliteration) somewhere else tbh.

Considering Pearsons experience as a manager then I tend to trust him.

When he signed Vardy, it wasn't all smooth sailing to begin with? And look at the career Vardy has had since that chat with Pearson. That alone proves that if players listen to Pearson and do as he says then they will improve as players.

For all we know Atkinson could be down town every night burning 50 pound notes (he's not)

    Kasper Schmeichel once said -

“But the guy is brutally honest.

“I had one situation where I came back from an injury and he didn’t play me. I had a frank conversation with him but he just stared me down.

“I knew that I had to shut up then. I wasn’t going to win that argument.”

I’m not saying NP way is right or wrong but Kasper is 36 years old and came through football at a different time. What may have worked for Vardy and Schmeichel may not work for Scott and Atkinson. Just because it worked for them does not mean it will work everywhere. In fact, his record since Leicester suggest Leicester may have been the outlier.

  3. There are some facets of his game I want to see him improve at but being 19 he will. It is easy to forget he is a fresh 19(18 at start of season I believe). Yes I’d like to see him take it on his shoulders a bit more often. Yes I’d like his delivery to be more consistent. That all comes with minutes and repetition. The yellow cards are a minor thing we need to deal with. You don’t ask him to tone down the aggression. You let him figure out what he can and can’t get away with.

Wells is now three years older, in his early thirties. His bargaining power is diminished solely due to age, so I would not be the least bit surprised for him to accept two years at 50% of the current wage. He is still a valuable member of the squad as a first teamer who will help young strikers to improve.

I hope so. Just saying think he is the most saleable of everyone out of contract because of his form and position imo. I’d have no problem giving him a new deal. Been a top pro

  5. If the England manager must be English then he has to stay really. Should have win something by now though. Seen on a clip of a podcast that England has played a top 10 nation 24 times and have only won 4 of those during the Southgate regime. England have enough to be more competitive than that.

  6. Different scenarios imo. Fam was seemingly wanted around England and Europe in that last year. Maybe not at the price we wanted but we could have possibly got something meaningful if we had been clever.

Kalas, I don’t think is seen in that same light. First off there is positional value. Strikers are more valuable especially in January. Also, as you said, he has been injured all year. No one wants to pay for that or even split the wages he is on in a way that would be worth it for us.

The interesting one would be Wells. I’d like to keep him longer but not sure we’ll be able to agree a wage with him as we are run now. He has been in very good form and is possible we could get something for him from a promotion pushing side. Then again, how much worse does that make us?

I'm seeing NP in a similar light to SOD now, both had  a tough job in a transition period for the club, they did what was necessary to reset the clock, then somebody else is needed to come in and take the glory.

I don't deny it's been tough for NP with the lack of cash and overblown squad and all the rest of it, but I can't see he is ever going to be able to take advantage of things once sorted because he's already spent in terms of what he says and does and I think a fresh manager with fresh ideas COULD push us on.

His record is nothing short of awful really, he's closing in on 100 games in charge and has lost half of his games!  I wanted him here, I thought he would succeed but I just can't see it working

I can see that argument that he come in and did what was needed to do. I just feel like he is getting credit for something that would have been done if it was him or any other manager.

There was a culture problem and it does feel like he has upped that. Also it felt like it was at an all time low when he arrived. I can’t argue it seems like the non playing staff is more aligned than I can remember. Is that all NP or RG getting credit too? Then we have the playing staff side too. In theory, saying you have to earn the shirt is a good theory. Can’t you go too far though? Leaving out the CB you bought for the only real money you had for a 34 year old CM seems very spiteful. Leaving Wells out all year always felt like spite because of his wage.

What it comes down to for me is how we are performing on a match day. Every other thing credit can be dished out elsewhere. Not that NP should not get credit as well for these things. Just that he is wholly responsible on a match day which is where we have progressed the least. I never expected miracles like a playoff run but by this season I expected to flirt with them for a good portion of the season. More worryingly than the points is the performances are just not up to scratch often enough and he has said that himself. The soft goals we concede is something I definitely expected to be rectified by now.

  8. Thought we had a chance for equaliser then Martin come on. Semenyo thought was at least trying to make things happen. Then was thrown wide for CM and barely had a touch.

2 of the softest goals you will see. Time and time again players are left unattended by anyone in a city shirt in or near our penalty area. A long straight ball that should be dealt with knocked down and free man edge of area. Second one think it was good initial defending by possibly Pring but deflected fell to them unmarked in our area yet again. We actually carved our goal out a bit by individual play something they did not really threaten with. To come away 2-1 losers really irks because they look avoidable by most other sides.

  9. Can only be seriously impressed whenever BT speaks about his job and the club. I don’t feel like he has an ego. So he can have honest conversations about players with everyone. Guess the easier thing to say is I don’t get the impression that he has to be right all the time.

His track record tells the story of he can spot a player. I can’t really envision him not being good in this role unless he somehow undermined. That is also something I worry less about nowadays. I often get this feeling with city that everything is coming together. Then we play on a Saturday or Tuesday.

If Rangers really are preparing a bid of £5m foe Semenyo then we should grab it with both hands.

Crazy we are even talking about a price like that but his performances have been woeful. I do think the WC was on his mind. It is not a good excuse but getting there will be big for him personally. Hopefully we see the best of him after. Could be a few games before January for him to raise his value. He’d be the one to sell either way imo. He doesn’t fit the set up that well imo. He’d be a loss but one I think we could best deal with midseason.

  11. I think you are seeing the benefit of him playing the same positions week in and week out. His career he has shown versatility which is why, imo, he hasn’t been able to kick on. There was always ability there. In that position you need minutes and the experience that comes with it. Credit to him for staying switched on now and keeping his head down and working. Really pleased for him.

If the question was most improved, Vyner would win hands down. But I can’t have him as POTY at the halfway stage.

If anyone from the defence deserves it, and that’s a different debate, it should be Atkinson IMO. Conway, Wells and James have all been key players so far.

You can see the difference in the side when James plays. However, he has missed roughly half the games this season. Can’t really consider him imo because of that.

This season at Ashton Gate has been the worst I've seen it for time wasting. We've had players feign seriously injury to then jump straight up.

So how this guy acted today, just seemed like he was having a tantrum because the ref wouldn't blow up and allow him to time waste. That's how it seemed. The way he went down didn't suggest he had suffered a serious injury. Just seemed like an attempt to time waste.

Why didn't his teams medical staff run around the side of the pitch so they were there?

He knew it was bad. Vyner even signalled their bench to get on after the whistle blew. They called for stretcher straight away. It was bad yet the majority gave him abuse. It didn’t sit well with me. I clapped him off as did a few.

I think Choudury is allowed to not be happy. He spends almost everyday with his team. To see his mate go off with a potentially career ending injury(he is well into his 30s with bad injuries on his cv already) was probably enough to be on edge already.

  14. Wells is our best player imo. Top scorer for us in the league. The way he can hold the ball up or challenge cbs in the air or bother their defensive headers is key. Think when Tammy played with Wilbraham at the start of that season. Think Wells could be that figure for Conway.

Conway probably second. Doesn’t need much explaining. He is better than I thought he was at the start of the season and I thought he was good from his cameos.

I’d put Scott 3rd. He is so talented I want to see more from him but still so young. He lets everything come to him. I want to see him impose himself a bit more. He has done it at times but he can do more. Like to see him grow even more.

Vyner 4th for me. Been available all season. Played all league games? Every 5 games he looks a level higher. Not sure you can just put Kalas back in there now and that is a big statement.

Atkinson would have been 4th but missed a few games and now left out today. Still scored some massive goals for us. Love when he brings the ball out and up the pitch. Solid defender and can see still getting better.

Those would be my 5 as have all been pretty regular and reliable players. On a separate note, can we please get a song for Vyner going? Talking about him in our top 5 players and never a song for him. O’Leary has had one. Thatchers gold has one. Weimann had one today after he handled the ball ? Academy lad, been through lots of rough spells and persevered. Get him a song!

I was listening to Hornets TV commentary - very pro-Watford.   They noted how difficult Watford were finding it to cope with our shape - particularly the numbers in midfield.     Nige deserves a lot of credit for getting the tactics right today.   They didn't really threaten.   And Tommy would have taken that chance on another day.   Fair play to the lads.

Yes he deserves credit but this is a change we should have went with and stuck with earlier imo.

I was very impressed with the defending of Davis. Anytime he got ball to feet we had 2-3 straight into him to take it off him or make him have to go backwards. Think that was a big reason why they couldn’t play through us.

It’s awful tbh,if people can’t see we were far the better team today then its almost unbelievable but it wouldn’t surprise me with some on here

I think today saying Watford were awful is fair. Idk if I have seen a side that poor this season. Sheffield United and Swansea we outplayed good sides.

Today was good. Our 2 best strikers. Our 3 best midfielders. Weimann who can’t have the same role as last season is a better rwb than Sykes. Dasilva good player. I really love Pring and Vyner and their commitment. Can debate Kalas and Atkinson coming back but those 2 have played very well. King didn’t have much to do but battled hard.

I think this is my gripe about city. I don’t think there is a reason we can’t perform like today more regularly. If Watford had ended up with a late winner you don’t get angry just unlucky because the performance was solid. Today, Sheffield United and Swansea we were better than sides casuals would say are better than us. That is without Atkinson and Kalas who would probably be in our best XI on paper and an out of form Semenyo.

I can’t argue we aren’t as deep as some sides or we don’t have the money of some sides. That is fine but we have plenty of good players and good young players to supplement them for performances of this quality more often. The league is open so lets fight to be as close to the top for as long as possible. It sends a message that might make players keen to stay another season or prospective players want to join.

He’s not done as well as hoped given the amount of money he’s put in. But I don’t see a load of people rushing in to take over and he’s ever said he’d consider offers etc. No one has ever come forward. Reason for that is it’s just spunking money up the wall generally. We are fortunate we have someone who can keep us going given what has happened to other clubs.

I get the feeling he isn’t realistic about a sale price. Either that or he is asking potential owners to cover the debt accrued over the years? Idk how it works really but he said earlier in the year he is looking for investment and it would have to be substantial not something like 1-2m. So what is he looking for? 8 figures? Didn’t Derby and Hull recently sell for around 20m? Did the new owners take on debt?

Guess what I wonder is what would be a good sale price for city?

  18. I thought Conway played the role behind the strikers brilliantly against Lincoln when he come on. Would like to see that again but maybe not Saturday. I’d like to see our biggest and most athletic squad out there personally.

RCB and CB is tough because I don’t reckon Klose or King is athletic enough for the role in the centre. Vyner can play it but who plays RCB? Atkinson or Pring? Can’t see that. So Vyner rcb then who in the centre? Think Atkinson could maybe play it but taking a lot of the good he brings out of the equation. So unless Kalas or Naismith is fit it probably has to be Klose.

So that said, unless NP changes formation, I would go with

    Max

    Vyner Klose Atkinson

    Weimann Williams James Scott Pring

    Conway Wells

And what’s the glaring omission from your use of statistics to have another little jab here I wonder?

Wasn’t a jab just found it interesting. So quick to say BT was lacking and perhaps he was. It was over 15 years ago. He clearly has a knack for spotting talent so the role suits. Just wondering why the poster was so insistent he should stay well clear of advising tactically.

A lot of people are happy about this, I'm personally happy for Tinnion as he has worked his ass off for this club and proven he knows talent when he works work it week in week out but I also worry about what his influence will be. I mean it's his goal now to make sure the club had the same vision and strategy but when Tinnion has been on commentary he's very critical of what the team is doing. I just hope he leaves tactics to the manager because as much as I like Tinnion we've all seen he's not a manager. I have no issues with his ability in coaching, I have faith in his ability to work with young players but I also hope his roll will be to bring everything into line for the manager, not to have any input into how tactics are implemented etc.

I'm sure I'll get some hate for that because Tinnion is a great guy, he's got excellent qualities that we benefit from and boy was he a joy to watch play the game but I just hope that isn't the reason he's got this position, I hope it's because he's the right man for the job and we don't have a repeat of when he was manager.

Tinnion 36% win rate in charge of city. Just over 6% higher than NP. Picking up 1.4 points per game compared to NP 1.1 points per game. Not saying you are wrong just find it interesting.

Really pleased for BT. Clearly cares about the club and his eye for talent has already helped us immeasurably. With the financial gains on the horizon too. Happy for him to have a big say in recruitment.

There was no lack of effort ( Semenyo aside) or not playing for the manager imo. Our players were just not very good. Poor passing, no movement off the ball, can't hit a shot on target from 6/10 yards ( Semenyo again), inability to cross a ball or run past an opponent with it. Bottling challenges (Semenyo). There was just a shocking lack of ability all over the pitch.

Other than Kadji and Low it was a very experienced lineup. That is not a talent issue. It is a tactical issue imo. The formation is far too conservative. 3 at the back easy to pin the wingbacks back. The 2 in midfield sit deep. It basically asks the front 3 to perform miracles which Weimann, Conway and Wells often can. When you throw Martin out there it takes the movement and pace out of the mix without any sort of presence that bothers professional cbs. You often get this large gap between the front 3 and midfield.

  22. 11 hours ago, marcofisher said:

Players have to be given a chance to step up, just like Scott and Conway have done when given a chance. Seen so many ridiculous posts accusing NP of throwing him under the bus when in reality he has been given the chance to show what he is about in a fairly insignificant cup.

Exactly and I hope he gets another chance during the season. Low was poor but so was everyone else and it did him no favours. Players should not get unlimited opportunities but this was his first chance and as long as he stays positive and trains well he should get another.
