  1. So do I. When he goes forward he reminds me a bit of Dave Smith…not particularly refined, but quick and powerful. But pretty much every player says Nige is nothing like that. Demanding, yes, but that’s what building the right culture is about. As fans we moaned like “hell” that we had a cosy club attitude running through the club, now we moan because the standards required are higher. I see absolutely no evidence that Cam and Nige have had any falling out. Nige can be very blunt (rude) in his media interviews, but his answers yesterday were just that…not aimed at Cam, more at the useless first interviewer who set the tone with a shit set of Qs.
  2. For info - Carabao Cup rules: 9 subs named 5 allowed on / in 3 events not including ht. Straight to pens, no E-T. Im pretty sure Williams won’t make the 20, nor James (nor Bajic, Kalas, Semenyo) Squad will be Bentley O’Leary (2) Wilson Tanner Pring Dasilva (4) Klose Vyner Naismith Atkinson Towler (5) Scott Massengo King Kadji Sykes (5) Martin Weimann Wells Conway Bell (5) 21 total Olly Thomas might make travelling party.
  3. Yes, always been a striker but club see his best chance of making it as a no8. Had a good loan at Hallen last season, and then started to break into 23s after Xmas. Yes, PDL is now u21s. @Lrrrconfirmed: last season - u23s - 3 over age plus keeper allowed this season - u21s - 5 over age plus keeper allowed
  4. To add….he said at the end of the season, he thought Pring had a very good breakthrough season. He made 40 squads. I think the season caught up with him. It’s a physical leap from lg1 / lg2, couple that with training whilst trying to adjust…and it catches up with you. I think people read far too much into things. Now, this summer he’s missed a lot of pre-season. Trying to catch up pre-season is hard, because you’re trying to get fit whilst not getting the chance to impress in training. It’s a bit of a double edged sword. So, he’s now back in contention, but needs to force his way in….I don’t see the problem. ??????
  5. Was played at LWB…personally I don’t think that’s the position to get the best out of him.
  6. I’m gonna sound really critical here Neil, but why would his stance on loan players CONTINUE to frustrate you? His stance has CHANGED this summer, and he has give full details of why, e.g. culture. They are actively looking at PL loans. Whether they get any over the line, who knows. I see us as “we are right in the limit”, not well inside and have money to play with with. So how do we afford a loan or any signing if you think we are “up against it”, that’s making the situation worse isn’t it? We don’t know how contract conversations are going, so we can’t bring in a loan and suddenly player x decides he’s gonna extend his time here. It’s obviously much more complicated that that and the old domino effect comes into play. As I’ve said before if Kalas was to extend tomorrow on £15k p.w instead of £25k p.w, then all of a sudden we have between £1.5m-£2.0m freed up in this years accounts. If Wells was to leave, blah, blah, blah. We don’t need to sell a “biggie”, we need to move on the players wasting budget. Happy for you to include Massengo as a budget waster if you like. I don’t, but we will continue to be in opposing camps on him…which is fine. That is a very different statement to someone offering £20m for Scott. £20m isn’t an “FFP sorter” it’s just too good and offer to turn down.
  7. ?????????? ?????????? Haha, Andy de La Tour, young ones…I can almost recite it word for word without watching it! Memories. The owner took his eye off the ball, and thought his son had it under control. The loyal ones, yes. The fickle, bed wetters, not. They bask in negativity, the kind of fans that if they were players Nige would call them “energy sappers” and would be trying to move them on. The ignorance of the situation the club are in for the entitled “fan” winds me up. I don’t expect every fan to appreciate (or want to appreciate)the non-90 minutes side of Football, it’s more those fans that do get it, or have it explained to them, but continue their agenda-based crusade that get me.
  8. We don’t need £10m / £15m / £20m…it’s not a big hitter we need to sell, just a “bit” to keep us in line. Selling Scott or Semenyo, is overkill for the financial situation. We won’t turn down a bid that meets our selling point, but we don’t need to sell one to balance against FFP per se.
  9. Exactly. The wording from RG (on @3 Peaps In A PodCast) was deliberately opaque imho, and the headlines from Bristol Online deliberately “sensational”. If you listen to the podcast, I think for the EFL to be 6-9 months away from knowing how they’ll handle it, leaves me less worried. The financial data is known both from actual actual account (2021), yet to be published accounts (2022) and projected accounts (2023). All of this in it’s various submissions to the EFL is in place / known. I think RG is more commenting on the new unknown UEFA stuff, whilst trying to be coy re our commercial position. Its a bit of a double edged sword. It will attract suitors looking for a cheap deal for Scott, Semenyo, etc, but it will also show clubs we want to recruit from that we can’t afford much. No disrespect to 3PIAP, but I don’t think RG is so open on a podcast if he has genuine financial concerns.
  10. The analogy is he’s had to knock down the building to relay the foundations. It takes time. Just because they’re his players, doesn’t mean they are who he’d ideally get if he different funds available to him. He’s scrapping around free transfer and Lg1 / Lg2 players (also on frees). He can’t generate transfer funds from Vyner, Moore, etc…nor can he generate them from Wells, etc, because they won’t forego their huge wages (allegedly). Without transfer money, we are a huge loss making entity. The answer to that it to cut costs in the playing side…which he’s done. Sometimes you have to go backwards (summer 2022) to go forwards (end of last season). Oh, let’s shit the bed because we’ve lost the first two games. He is working with a thin squad with little depth , because the finances won’t allow it to be thin, but with depth / cover. He took over a mess. Yes, results are frustrating…but he hasn’t taken the club backwards…he’s rebuilding it with RG.
  11. Nige confirms Pring is fit…but has to force himself back in.
  12. Scott - permanently (not temporarily) Because he is a rarity who is technically capable on his left foot. I keep saying, he’s played the vast majority of his career right of centre, in a back 4, or centre or right of centre in a back 3.
  13. The Opta stuff is freely available….great source: https://theanalyst.com/eu/2022/08/english-championship-stats-2022-23/ The Wyscout stuff I pay a sub for.
  14. The charts are both games combined… …my interpretation of this is that “control” probably isn’t a great term to use. If I take both games we have controlled possession in periods, but we are still easily broken down defensively (as a team), hence why we concede chances. We might have 75% “control” in an area of the pitch (in that graphic), but if the opponent create 2 or 3 chances from their 25% Im not sure “control” really builds the picture. Does that make sense. If they called it “possession / touches” I think it’s much easier to interpret… ….and as we know “possession wins eff-all”. So, you could argue we’ve been less efficient with our possession. I still think there are lots of metrics out there (other than the scoreline) that suggest “they deserved to win” is not black and white. Both games so far had we come away with two draws, I think that was nearer the case…imho. But if you hand a team an opening goal like we did…and scoring from it with a 22 yarder, a low percentage shot, the balance of chances / shots / scenarios created was pretty even imho. Dasilva left footer, Martin left footer cleared off the line, Wilson at back post which inadvertently set up Atkinson were as good if not better than anything Sunderland conjured up, bar the Simms shot fantastically saved by Bentley. I think it is human nature to be more worried when our opponent attacks than when we do. I’ve seen people say we obviously put them under pressure because they sat back, so we get no credit for that. But perhaps they were forced back…just like we were v Hull for a period second half. You can see the negative angle taken when it’s Bristol City….human nature. Going back to “control”, both games have felt a bit frantic, and again I don’t think control is a great word to use. That is the key thing, we are trying to evolve a way of playing. We did work some excellent moves during the game, not just first half. We saw versus Hull how effective Naismith was breaking the lines with clever passes. There was less of this versus Sunderland. I’d say most of Han’s came in the first half, and were an acceptable “involvement”…in fact 18/18 first half (definitely ok as a volume). Team splits were: 1st half 241 / 209 successful (86.7%) 2nd half 185 / 157 (84.8%) total 426 / 366
  15. He also said that he needs to sit down and give it some proper thought too. But I think we will go pretty strong. Nope. The best you’ll get is goals going in on Sky Sports News. Assume there’ll be radio comms though.
  16. I don’t know the source of the top one, the bottom one is Infogol. Wyscout:
  17. Not meant to be at all defining, but thought I’d share. Two games is a crap sample, but hey-ho. the big thing for me is the obvious attempt to evolve us into a more passing / possession side than last season. Almost 60 passes per game more (17.7% up) at 85.6% accuracy (12% up). Of course some of that increase will be down to “fancying around” passes at the back, but there were plenty of those last season too, before the hoof!!! But possession up too, ought to see benefits over a season too if it continues. Data from Wyscout . Other interesting stuff. We were one if the bottom three teams for stringing together sequences of 10+ passes last season. This season: Now we are top third. Will be interesting to see if we can keep this up? In the next pic, you can see we are a bit more intricate in our build up. We were in the top left quadrant last season. Finally, how much if the pitch are we “controlling”? Definitions are in the key to the left. We are controlling 19 of the 30 areas holding 3 and losing 8, we were controlling significantly less than half last season. Dara from Opta . Then moving onto individuals, Sunderland match only. Here is GK, DEF and MID pass maps. Definitely a move towards shorter passing. Data from Wyscout (again) : As per my opening sentence, not trying to draw too many conclusions from this. Still need to concede less shots, and stop conceding multiple chances in a short period of time, e.g. 3 chances in a couple of minutes. But I do think we are evolving our style…and a bit of patience is required. Coventry on Wednesday at Burton might see something different, as Cov pass it more / control games more than Sunderland and Hull. But both line-ups could be very different. Any comments / questions welcome.
  18. If it follows the new FIFA method it will be pretty much aligned to Lg1/2 SCMP methodology it will be players pro contracted other than youth on pro contracts plus the “manager”. Just for sake of argument and as an example (ignore Nige for this)let’s say our playing wage bill is £16m and we currently have toughly 30 pro players, then the average wage is about £10k p.w. Sounds about right.
  19. Agree, it’s about leadership and communication on the pitch, not who has the armband. Noticeable at the HPC who the leaders and talkers are….Bentley, Naismith, James, Williams, and Klose.
  20. No wonder ? I think Ian’s broadband in Devon is a bit crap, and Dave’s “castle” near Clevedon has two feet thick walls…no wifi gets through that ???
  21. Neil - you are are mixing up “playing budget” (in terms of below £18-20m as per SL) and wages of the football club. In the last accounts it was £30.252m. My gut feel is we brought down football club wages to circa £24m, and it appears SL is saying the current wages that would make up a potential “FFP salary cap” are below £18m. As a ballpark I’m now gonna work on 1st team wages are around 75% of BCFC Ltd wage costs. When accounts come out I’ll adjust if needed.
  22. Be interested to know how many live pods use Podbean. It seems temperamental re sound when live. Mark - do you connect via app or pc. I use app and generally had had no issues.
