Does xG tell us anything about the season?
Davefevs replied to Silvio Dante's topic in Football Chat
Nicely put, it’s not nonsense is very useful to try to measure a complex game, especially a low-scoring sport. XG along with other stuff…box entries (however much people scoff), etc, etc. is widely used, and when used beyond just in isolation. -
Fair play for writing this. You never know the back-story, so thanks for posting on here. Must be tough for you, and tougher for your son. All the best.

Does xG tell us anything about the season?

Come on Timmy, Mr P updated a post last night with a new table, a few people commented on it. It’s such nonsense that it’s even been quoted by our beloved head-coach to defend performances. -
Does xG tell us anything about the season?

@Silvio Dante yes! When you take it as a 6-game rolling average / season, it can highlight some trends. Is it the be-all and end-all, nope. But nobody is saying it is all-defining are they, either? -
Our best hope is he stays on in a coaching capacity, but this certainly seems to signify the end of his playing time here. I think we are all going off of the many platitudes given to “Kingy” by the players and staff alike.

Good news for Max, bad news for Gavin.

Between Lg1 / Lg2 - 5 out of 24 each weekend round.

Reckon he was a Millers fan who snook in wearing steward fancy dress!

Yep, we’ve no idea yet. @Never to the dark side reckons they will be 12:30, but nothing has been said.

Roberts is like the pre-shin splints Dasilva but 2 foot taller!

I’ve never had a problem with Tins, don’t resort to snake names, etc, always liked his passion for City, if somewhat too bullish at times. I will be critical of throwaway soundbites from anyone like “front foot, high press….”. I was in my City wilderness days in the Wilson Tinnion era, likewise the LJ nepotism years under GK, so I don’t carry the baggage / history of some. So I just post what I think from what I see. I don’t like Tins divulging sensitive info though. But his part / growing part in recruitment in the past 2.5 years is something I’ve continually supported. When “everyone” (sic) was saying “would you give Nige any money” I was supportive of the recruitment process / signings made. That hasn’t changed. +++++ On a slight asude, listening to FBC this morning, I see that players are no longer classed as injured in some cases - they’re “rehabbing”. Makes I chuckle!!!

I’ve always liked Bramhall (Lincoln days) but at 28 I think he’s probably the wrong age for us. Although as a Tommy Rowe type free you could see some sense. At their place he caused us huge problems. Yesterday, like last week versus McCallum, McCrorie did a job on him. McCrorie may not be easy on the eye, but he’s a team player. He completely constipated their left side! Fixed

Think that was a good benchmark for what we can do.

Think what has become apparent in the last two games is that you get a balance in your two no10s (in the 3421) perming 2 from 3: Twine the technical passing no10 Mehmeti the dribbling no10 Sykes (on form) the running no10 And you need different ways to open up difference teams. So whoever we get if it’s not Twine, needs to be Twine-like imho. +++++ The slight confusion for me is that if Twine / Conway is the combo Manning is so keen to keep, and signs last week that TC gets service from ST in this set up…does the “no9” profile we’ve been told fit that. Lets just try really hard to keep TC.

Why out of interest?

After the scattergun approach pre-Covid, it really had no plan, covid then tied Holden’s hands (just Williams recruited with a fee), to frugal squad building / trimming by Nige against a solid profiling of players. That sensible approach appears to have been continued. There is also less churn too. No loans having to go back…in fact the opposite, two loans coming in (Bird / Stokes). People seem unable to divorce individual elements of criticism, and therefore if you’ve made your bed on someone then you’ve got to lie in it for everything. That’s crazy. You can dislike the way the hierarchy go about one thing, but have a different view on how they do something else, e.g. recruitment. The same happens with praise, just the other way around.

Points per game and League table since Manning took charge
Davefevs replied to Mr Popodopolous's topic in Football Chat
Yep. We didn’t need to be sucked in by stupid “hierarchy” comments, us fans knew the likely strength of this squad. Yeah, had the stars aligned we might’ve pushed closer to the top 6 (but not achieved it imho), and in the flipside we could’ve finished a tad lower. My mid-expectation / target was a winning season with positive goal difference. We ain’t a million miles away from the first bit with one game to go. -
And still young, with growth.
-
He’s played 100 times in the championship already…he will be expected to go right off the bat.

Tinnion said it
-
Pretty sure he said there was nothing, but we’d keep talking to them.
-
Yep…although it’s likely to be 9 or 10 Sat 3pm home games. The only caveat to the table below is that @phantom posted something yesterday about embargo dates, so we might be one home game better off than the table below.

Yep, been saying it for ages. He’s often been the guy trying to inject a bit of tempo into our passing, but in trying to “force it” he sometimes has games where his passing is off.
