Think Massengo and Weimann is a bit too "busy" in there, and think today we might've been better with Bakinson over Massengo...who I think is a bit out of form at present.  King might come back into the 18 next week.

Weimann does really well when played through the middle and we all know that he gives everything.  However, he isn’t and never will be a number 10 as our chief playmaker as just not suited to the role, as whilst he has many qualities you have to be really technically competent. Just play him centrally as whilst he will do a job anywhere, that’s where he is a danger

  2. Come on be honest who would have been happy with that after the Coventry game as I certainly didn’t expect 4 points. I’m not happy with today or performances but I honestly didn’t expect anything with the midfield decimated with injury.  Real test is the next 3 games against 2 inform teams & a rejuvenated Huddersfield where we need to pick up more points but if we have the same midfield, we will struggle. Fail to pick up minimum of 4 and not sure where that leaves Pearson.

Just trying to find a positive amongst the mess our club finds itself in !

  3. Had a dreadful first 30 mins but confidence soared after goal. Not a fan but credit where it’s due, he was incredibly disciplined and helped see us over the line.  Hopefully he can take that forward as if he’s successful we are all going to be happy.

For me he was the wildcard improver over pre-season.  I thought he would be some way off, but provided some really good performances on the left wing during the friendlies.  Then scored a couple at FGR but seemed to blot his copybook on the defensive side of his game in that match and as sub v Boro.  Like Semenyo, he’s a bit raw, but he has pace and physicality, something we’ve lacked.  Not saying he’s the answer, just that he did better over the summer than I thought he would and went up in my evaluation.

I know it’s the U23s but from the games I’ve watched, he has been the standout. He is lightening quick and very powerful. Missed lots of chances v posh so not a natural finisher & better wide. I agree he’s a good wildcard from the bench as don’t think he even knows his next move.

Has he had a fair crack as scores 2 in only start but then disappointed in a sub appearance next game. When I think of some of the under performers who play consistently then surely he’s worth a punt from bench.

  5. Now I’m far too old to know how to copy a link from Instagram but just seen messages from Saikou showing a brilliant goal against unknown team.  Also then tags Semenyo and Williams as set both up for goals and both have subsequently Posted.

Assume that it’s from a game this week due to Williams/Semenyo availability but could be completely wrong.  Anyone have any knowledge of a game and can help an old fart out by posting links to goals?

As an aside Saikou looks rapid and his goal was a screamer.

My guess is that he’s no longer getting game time and he will go on loan elsewhere.

City might make use of him in training next week with Kalas away, I.e. for defence v attack sessions, but I doubt that.

I doubt he’s coming back to sit on the bench, we have Baker, Kalas, Atkinson and Vyner, and Vyner hasn’t made the 18 on a number of occasions.

Agree if not getting game time, get him out somewhere else.  One thing I’ve not seen anywhere was why Atkinson missed Saturday assumed injured but strange that nothing has been mentioned.  Any ideas @GrahamC or anyone?

Obviously not the main talking point, but Gould’s answer on atmosphere was disappointing.

Basically - no plans to change anything, atmosphere will improve with results. That’s a given, but would’ve preferred him to be more open to dialogue about solutions to maximise atmosphere. It’s clear our current setup isn’t optimal and probably gives away teams a marginal competitive advantage.

Given everything that’s happening I doubt it’s a huge priority of his - but hopefully in the future he can show a bit more openness about it.

In fairness I think he was right in what he said in that get the entertainment/results right on the pitch and the atmosphere will not become a discussion point. Could always be better but Barnsley proved how loud we can be.

  8. Agree with most comments in that the interview left more questions than answers.   The solution is to work hard to address slide and achieve our aspiration to be a high energy attacking team with our overpaid squad (top 6 budget)

Having said that, Gould said that we’ve missed Nigels energy/presence since the last international break & makes you question what his attendance has been like due to his ill health over last few weeks ?  Is health a factor in sitting in stand? The key question I suppose is how long can he stay absent for in light of this statement & that’s they key thing we all want to know.  Clearly, the club knows and will have a contingency ready to invoke (you hope).

Equally felt that Gould didn’t come across as particularly impressive but in fairness it was a no win situation for him as so many things up in the air.  Credit for going on as we’d all be saying the club tells us nothing which in essence, I guess he didn’t in this interview.

We all needed a lift after recent results & we didn’t get it.

  9. Like most it probably starts with your dad or a relative taking you to the first game.  My first game was over 50 years ago and even though I was playing for local teams to a reasonable standard for years, my heart was always on what was happening at the Gate. Every game we weren’t playing home or away, I would go & that includes 82 when there weren’t many of us.

Another factor was growing up in Keynsham most of my school was Gas at the time. I took pride in representing City as my team in whatever happened and that includes banter and skirmishes. I’m also an incredibly proud Bristolian and love my football team and worked all over the country and am always proud to say I support Bristol City only to be asked who my prem team is?

My personal take is that I support my local team & whilst it’s not been in the main pretty or successful, you cannot beat the buzz of a win against the odds and if I stop, I can guarantee that I will miss the best game in the clubs history.

If it’s in your blood then you will continue to commit both financially and emotionally & as I’m getting older, I find it more depressing when we lose and under perform.  Wish I wasn’t so engaged but in essence my dad passed on his love of Bristol City and despite moaning like mad, I’d be lost without them now as despite however much I Moan (especially this season).

  10. Well if the manager had been there then I think he would have got the same treatment.  Lots walked out when 3rd went in but the reaction as you say at FT was very angry and those brave enough to walk over were sent packing.  Thought after Fulham we were united but the gap is the biggest I’ve known for ages between this group of players and fans.

Thought he had a good first half (as did O’Dowda), but he looked knackered second half, like he didn’t have a run in him.

Not sure what happened to our new superior fitness levels as there seemed to be a few blowing.  JD was poor and no doubt Pring is our best LB.

Pass the ball quicker & make pitch bigger but we didn’t  & Cov could go to 9 and still been more threatening than us. We are just pedestrian and gutless and like everyone fed up with it.

    Years of neglect. Years.

Polishing the turd. A stadium that's lovely but that is like going to church. A high performance centre that isn't. And millionaire players who can't implement a game plan and have no clue about game management.

I honestly would like to know what our game plan is as genuinely don’t see one other than to see how many square passes we can play before we launch it. No movement or pace and constant shifts in formation.  I’ve not seen one player improve recently & if anyone can seriously tell me what our game plan is as I’ve no clue?  Agree with your comment about players & sick now of their worthless words & if one says “we go again” or onto the next then I’ll explode.

  13. I’m far from a fan but he was better today. However, he’s playing in a central role & the odd pass isn’t enough if you don’t do the hard yards & track runners and tackle. He tends to mark space rather than  a player and will never be convinced he’s championship quality.  He was physically shot at 75 mins. That said he was far from the worst today.

Nothing against you here Shuffle - yet when others state how “quality” our squad is and the fact that Pearson should be getting a better tune out of it (which I agree with in some instances) and then we potentially have Vyner at centre midfield I find it laughable. Vyner wouldn’t get in most sides as defender let alone as a midfielder. That shows where we are and the reality of the “quality” within in both our first 11 and squad.

Suppose with the absence of King,James,Williams it was a choice of  Vyner or Bakinson And I ain’t having Tyreeq as a player at all. Your right though it’s poor quality for the championship

  15. Heading up tomorrow in hope rather than expectation.  What I do expect is 100% commitment as a bare minimum as whilst we will not be in a good position at the moment, I’m fed up with these limp displays.

Personally would play 4-5-1 but we are limited in options

    Bents

    Tanner/Kalas/Atkinson/Pring

    Weimann/HNM/Vyner/O’Dowda

    Scott

    Wells

There’s no way that he will go with this as Martin/Bakinson will start.

Think Weimann is a waste wide but needs must for this game.  Come on City let’s get some pride back as since last international break we’ve been shocking.

I thought Bakinson did most of our good things on Tuesday. Attacking wise I think he'd look really good in a decent side. Defensively, err .... After 60 minutes, ... err. Ty, get your shooting boots on for Saturday. If not you then who? (I know, no-one.)

We have such a low bar where Bakinson is concerned that when he has a reasonable half, some become all upbeat about his ability. Second half was the performances we are use to for Tyreeq & the booking was embarrassing as it showed up his complete lack of pace. I hope I’m wrong & I eat my words but for his height, does he dominant in the air ? I’d love to see him race Martin as it would be close. I don’t see him flying into tackles & to the opposite I’ve seen him pull out of challenges.  On the plus side he can pick a pass & looks to play forward but mobility is going to be his biggest challenge.

Personally, he would be no where near my starting 11 but appreciate options are low.

  17. Weimann can only play centrally as technique to be the creative person in behind the front two just isn’t there.  Why oh why we persist with him there is beyond me and has to be Wells and Weimann up top if we play with two.  IMO Martin partially selected due to defensive quality & that cannot be right.  Martin has had some decent games but cannot play 3 in a week or even a full 90 mins

  18. Now we all accept that NP inherited a poor squad.  He’s had a free pass and frankly his record is appalling but more worrying is that nothing has changed in terms of entertainment & what is our game plan?   I can take results over performance but since last international break we are going backwards.  NP doesn’t know his best team, best formation and his use of subs is appalling.  The football is route one and diabolical & whilst accepting that he’s inherited huge problems, other than slashing the wage bill through summer releases what has NP actually brought to the party?  I’m stuck between we cannot change our manager again and what the hell is he doing? Current situation is unacceptable as in last 5 games we’ve been schooled by WBA/BMouth and outplayed by Barnsley with a limp display v Brum & a bottle job v Forest.
