  1. PS he retired purely due to age and immediately became the FA Referee's Assessor. He would sometimes be at AG fulfilling this role after his retirement as a man in the middle.
  2. Phil, I can shed more light on this. A video of his career as a professional referee came out in the mid 90s. Not only does it feature an interview with John Motson but it shows the clip of him being shoved to the ground that night in Exeter. It also features the final game of the season between West Ham at Portsmouth. Pompey needed to win to have any chance of going up. I learned from watching this game as a 'spectator' just how biased a home fan can be especially over penalty decisions. At the time, I thought Bob had got it completely wrong. Having then watched it in editing mode, he was spot on! Some of the video was made at AG. The dressing room sequence was filmed at BS3 because the Pompey Manager at the time (Smith) refused to give permission. Walking out to the centre circle for the toss-up was amazing. The roar of the crowd expecting a win will stay with me. At the time of making this video, I was not under the impression that he left the Post Office for Sincerely Yours because of that incident. I first met him in SY sometime around 1982-84 when I was working in the City Centre. After the end credits, there is another little interview with Bob this time sitting in the Lower Williams Stand on my season ticket seat! The video was called The Man In The Middle. So

Anyone else think this thread was about Peter Gabriel's fifth album? I then read the posts. Some people have taken to use a Sledgehammer to other posters!
  4. Bob owned Sincerely Yours Newsagent/Card shop in Baldwin Street.
  5. UPDATE Having tried the bottle conditioned beer technique (brewed in Pinter only-see above) last weekend, I left the remaining bottles in the fridge for a further few days. The bottles had a further 6 days conditioning time (2 weeks in total) and what an extra few days made for the beer! The licorice flavour has mellowed. The malt has become slightly sweeter but not as dominant. Overall, this bottle-conditioned Dunkel has so much more depth in taste. I could bore you silly with notes of this and that but it has become an exceptional beer as a result of leaving it an extra week on top of the Pinter's recommendation. Will I do bottle conditioning from now on? I don't know! I certainly like using the bottles but the rubber seals need to be replaced after 5 uses apparently. Otherwise, you might get beer bottle explosions! Seals for the Grolsch bottles can be purchased online so that's not too bad. Maybe I'll stick with brewing and conditioning in the Pinter and using the bottles for any left over beer. One thing is for certain, the Dunkel is a winner.
  6. I thought Andy Partridge loved The Beatles! You mean the other one don't you!
  7. I've been following this fir ages. There is no information as to when, if at all, it will be officially released on Bluray/DVD. I'm surprised that Disney was given the rights especially as streaming is not as good for audio or video. Having splashed out for the 5.1 disc versions of Sgt Pepper and Abbey Road, I know how good this format is. I will not be watching until it gets the bluray release. If it doesn't, then I lose out. But hey-ho.
  8. So.... A week on. The same beer but conditioned differently. One has been brewed and conditioned in the Pinter. The other was brewed in the Pinter but conditioned in bottles. Both were conditioned for the same amount of time. The former was subsequently bottled a day after the conditioning process ended ie it was the left over beer from the night before but bottled with a carbonated drop for a further 6 days. The bottles are left in the same warm place as the brewing and covered. The bottles were put back into the fridge for the final 24 hours to stop any further fermentation. Why do this test? Because others have suggested bottling is the best way to condition. It will also produce better clarity. It also means you have beer in the fridge for when you need it! I wanted to know of there really is a difference. And the answer is? Oh yes! Both beers look similar when poured. I asked our next door neighbour to be the judge. He was aware of the test but did not know which was which. Here is his result... The review is in. So when I opened the bottles the one on the left didn’t have as much of a pop as the one on the right. So I wasn’t sure what to think, colour looks same, no change in that. But the taste. Wow wow wow. The one on the left blows you away. One on the right is still good but on the left, wow. Incredible flavour. Even now after it’s settled here 10 or so mins the head is still there. I notice the one in the right has less. For me, no question. The one on the left wins it for me in round 3. KO My son thought differently! He preferred the brewed/conditioned then bottled version as the beer had become mellower. I think I will try the Bottle conditioned beer again next week to see if it has mellowed a bit more as it would have had another 7 days. It shouldn't do as it is in the fridge and not in a warm place with an added carb drop. That's what testing is all about!
  9. I understand your viewpoint Dave and that's without a diagram or two! It's good that you can voice your thoughts on here without being shot down. This is why I detest Twitter and Facebook as the art of dialogue has been lost. Opposite opinions don't count on the social media and that will rebound sooner or later at a great cost. As far as corruption/cronyism is concerned, Labour lost the trust of many Glaswegians because of this.
  10. Can I just say that's probably the nicest way to post when someone disagrees with you. Major respect to you good sir. PS I just bought a new pair of white New Balance Trainers! Honest!
  11. Many congratulations on getting your track onto a CD/playlist. You must be very chuffed. How much of that track was played/programmed by you?
  12. My son is studying music composition at Uni and really has got into funk (he plays sax btw). That's a great track. What did you contribute?
  13. I noticed that as well on TV. I think what the groundstaff have done is to use the lawnmower made 'stripes' to hide the lines. Where the different mown cuts meet will be a clue. The rugby markings will be just inside the edge of one of the cuts. That's what it looked like for the 22 metre line (or in my day the 25 yard line)!
  14. A double CD featuring the best drummer since Buddy Rich, Mike Portnoy. If you love prog or want to find out what this genre is all about, this is the album. CD1 features 9 tracks with vocals including an incredible take on Bridge Over Troubled Water (I never liked the original). CD2 is just 2 tracks! Neal Morse Band take a bow! I'll be flying over to see them at Shepherds Bush Empire in June 2022. They really are exceptional musicians.
  15. Then there was the incident last night when Kalas went to the ballboy and had to wait whilst the towel was taken out of the plastic carrier bag!
  16. Blurton? We lived there for a few years. Our son was born in Stoke. I've done my best to make him a City fan. To avoid being bullied at Primary school over here in Norn Iron, he started to support the local team ie Man Utd.. Several chats later, he said he'd follow his birthplace team of Stoke. The last time we played at the Bet 365 with a crowd allowed in, he was sitting with Stoke friends. I was in the away end. We won. Was I feeling the slightest bit sorry for him? Was I 'eck! I suppose the wife scenario is different from having a Stokie son! See you all at Bet 365 for the Good Friday return fixture! Accommodation already sorted.
  17. I think Robins TV can show it to all and sundry as it is outside of the Saturday 3-5pm rule. Didn't Robins TV do this earlier in the season for a Cardiff game as the original Saturday 3pm had been moved?
  18. We supported Vice Squad at Kingswood Youth Club back in the day!
  19. Looking forward to your tips and reviews!
  20. Remember to keep the Pinter Concentrate in the fridge until you need them for brewing. Let the Concentrate get to room temperature before opening. This is especially important for Lockwood. I along with others, have complained of the apple vinegar taste. Which one are you going to brew first?
  21. Dunkel means dark. It is! The beer is exactly how the notes above describe. We're really knocked out about how good it is. A lager? Really? Yes, really! I will bottling any left from tonight. However, last week I brewed another Dunkel but with this brew, I will be conditioning it in flip top bottles to see if there is a difference in taste and appearance. I'll know more next weekend! BTW go to your local independent office. You should be able to get currently for £2 a flip top bottle. The Grolsch inside is free! They're needed for the Pinter....
  22. Their latest offering is Bavarian Rhapsody. This is what the blurb says...
  23. This thread proves that someone at BCFC Towers can not only read but is an Otib lurker!
