I've just read the current Gloster yearbook. In the Obituaries, there three successive GCCC captains, which must be some kind of record. They are:
Graveney, TW
Mr CTM Pugh
Graveney, JKR
The obit for Tom Graveney tells us that he was sacked because of the team's poor performance. He wasn't.. He was sacked because Mr Pugh Senior put up a very large sum of money on condition that his son became captain of GCCC. To his credit, Tom Pugh, never more than a club cricketer, gave up cricket when he discovered this.
There's also one for David Shepherd, a good cricketer and a great umpire. I thoroughly recommend his autobiography.
