That’s a really well written piece, and I agree with pretty much all of it

Would have preferred to stick with NP but in the current circumstances this seems like a good appointment to me. At least it’s not Lampard.

I would take that. But why would he come?
On the face of it, it doesn’t seem likely but there is some scrutiny of his transfer activity as he spent a lot this summer, and hasn’t exactly had a good start this season. Personally, I wouldn’t want him but we know he was wanted previously and has a relationship with the club. It just feels (to me) like the sort of bad decision SL would make.

Probably clearing the decks for the new appointee. Only kept Curtis on for the interim.

Feels strongly that they had made their mind up about Pearson a while ago, saving the money for a new coach, when they became available maybe ?
I said on one of the other threads that timing wise, they can give the new person some time to assess the squad and plan for January. There is some cold logic at play if that is the case
-
I guess it gives time for a new appointee to look over the squad and plan for January, but that might be giving them too much credit

I suspect they will approach Coventry for Mark Robins

When was the last time we sacked a popular manager?
-
Three years building a team under a manager and now we will start again. No doubt the new manager will want at least three transfer windows.
If they spend two months on an exhaustive process only to appoint Curtis Fleming, nothing against him but we just look like a clown show.

W4 STE of money, if you ask me

This forum has become an echo chamber. Everyone is assuming Nigel refers to the Lansdowns but from what I hear, there is a tense relationship with our DoF and that is what Nigel is referring to.

Given that we sacked the CEO the person questioning team selection can only be one of the Lansdowns.
If so when will they learn that they know sod all about football and stop telling a vastly experienced and respected manager how to do his job?

Every year around mid October we seem to have an injury crisis. Can’t be coincidence

ETM still win if JR is granted, which will run on for ages and then AG will just pull the project.
I guess they're in a no lose situation.
Not if the JR fails and costs are awarded against them, which seems a distinct possibility

Silly season officially started then

But why can't it be a regular thing at the football too?
When was the last time Lansdown met with our fans? Seems quite a long time ago now...
On this thread alone he has been compared to one of the three little pigs and Hitler. Are you truly surprised he doesn't want to face the fans?
I wonder whether he would appear on one of the City podcasts, if invited.

As for Stoke, footballing dinousaurs such as Pulis and Neil fit your club well.
Chippy fans, dodgy (FFP Covid wise) finances, owners who help contribute to gambling issues in the UK by running Bet365- while certainly not as bad as Aston Villa a club to be proud of for sure!
Makes you wonder whether the HS2 chairperson supports villa….

Thanks, still value of the land..pretty sure I read they still train at Bodymoor Heath, or is it rebuilt in a place not affected.
Anyway given infrastructure investment is excluded from FFP, surely that should be too.
There is something quite objectionable about many Midlands clubs although could just be me..I especially dislike Aston Villa. I include Stoke in Midlands as they're sort of and I rather dislike them.
Part of the training ground was purchased by HS2 but it’s a big site and still usable by Villa

Just unprofessional. I hope Nige reads them the riot act after that display.

Looked into it a bit further.
HS2 went through 10 percent of Aston Villa's Training Ground according to a 2016 report.
Was stated as 2 pitches.
Can someone begin to align the compensation and the speed of payment to commercial value here...?
£14.4m in 2018-19 alone and up to or pushing £20m across the piece.
10 pct..Bodymoor Heath would have to have been worth £144-200m surely??
That’s compensation for property blight. Villa would be paid for the value of the land needed for HS2. Slightly different things.
