We were in this exact situation just after Christmas, riding high off the back of successive wins against top 6 challengers. Then came Brum and Millwall where we got one point and no goals.
Same situation today, and many said beforehand (only partly tongue in cheek) that it would be very us to labour and lose. As of course came to pass.
I know we’re not the professional coaches but any ideas what we should be doing differently? Or is it a case of giving LM the windows he needs to build a possession squad given we currently have a squad assembled for transitional play. Which would of course mean another year or more of stagnation, as we’re all too familiar with in the Lansdown reign!

Death, taxes and this team falling to pieces when faced with poor opposition.
The football gods took Bell as penance for Twine being back.

Atkinson

Must have not been ready. What a horrid loan move it’s proving to be. Money well spent.

As simple as a transition team trying to play possession football? Gutting and predictable regardless. City are back.

One in, one out. Knight-Lebel vacates for the returning Twine. The touch paper has been relit, it’d be very us to wobble against this QPR! But we won’t. We can do this!

Pure speculation - but sometimes when we do a load of ‘mini announcements’ on contracts (ie youngsters and 3rd choice keepers) we have a big announcement to round it all out. So there’s a chance something is coming tonight.
Or the club may just be having an admin day, who knows.

Seems to be glad to be here, lots of Twitter engagement regarding his early days at the club. And a few glimpses last night of someone with a trick up his sleeve. Glad we’ve got the option - I have a feeling about him.

Going our way at a glance. Sunderland losing to Hudds and Cov losing, both very nice. 20 odd to play mind.

Simple and bloody lovely. Less is more!

Well in Dave

That is surely the performance and result of the season. Even better than WHU. We deserved to beat them comfortably and did imo. And Bell… he deserved that goal. Big Dickie with his 4th this season from defence. Super Harry Cornick makes it comfy. Amazing, amazing night ️️
And no new knocks that I saw! And Sykes back! And Twine and Kal soon! Things change so fast in this bloody sport

Atkinson and Naismith hopefully playing for u21s tomorrow.
Sykes and Twine close. Sykes very close, has done his full-pace “test”.
I know you didn’t have him on your list, but HWR played 90 for u21s on Saturday.
+++++
Ive added a new unavailability category - “match fitness” to distinguish between a player back in training but not yet ready for for first team.
Big Rob falls into that category, as Will Kal if he plays tomorrow.
Kal in the match fitness category. I’m really excited to have him back, bit of a fav of mine. Twine a bit of a mystery, I’m hoping for Saturday!

Bit of a rough day with injuries, with Rob going down again for the unders and Pring an absentee tonight. Twine neither played for the youngers nor makes the bench, hopefully see him again on Saturday?
Plus side, Sykes back (and replaces Pring in the one change to the 20) and Kal is obviously close which will be a relief to Dickie and Vyner I’m bloody sure!

First that came to mind was Mrs. Robinson for Niclas Eliasson.
Edit - was that Eliasson? Just remembered ‘she’s electric’ so he either had two songs or I’ve got wires crossed.

Seemed to take a knock (looked like his knee caught in the turf as he slid to me?). Played on. Then looked sore and was taken off. It may well be nothing, but City has wearied me. Anyone know any more/see him post match? Probably the player we least need to lose to injury!
-
Get in. A league win at last. We so needed that.
Cornick and Pring… hopefully ok? Pring especially concerning, I don’t understand why he played on after his knock. We’ll see if they’re about Tuesday. Pring would be a big old loss.

We’ve dropped points in good performances. I’ll take today happily

2 out, 3 in as we name all 9 subs rather than 8 as on Weds. Backwell and OTC make way for the returns of Pring and TGH after suspension, as well as a first bench appearance for Dire Mebude.
No returnees from the injured ranks yet though Twitter folk are saying soon. Big Rob played for the unders today, as mentioned by Fevs.
Win today and play-offs are back on…

But I am not sure how much more evidence, proof, signs, tarot readings, the buying new player team at Ashton gate need to see.
We need experienced goal scoring striker NOW. Not tomorrow in the summer when we are not playing but NOW
The hierarchy wrote this season off a while ago mate, frustrating as it is. So were never gonna break the bank in Jan.

Not very optimistic about this one, hard to be given our lack of wins of late. Plus side, nothing really on it, so can rotate players tired from last night/not rush back those with knocks.
-
Mebude wasn’t eligible for the initial tie which meant he couldn’t feature tonight. We’re targeting a forward in the summer so yea, I think it’s all about next season now. And then I’m sure it will be about the season after, etc etc

My main concern is we haven’t followed any of the previous three cup games with good league form. Sometimes the good performance has carried over a little, but we just can’t get results. Bit of a slog for a few months now but there will be some highs along the way I’m sure.

Manning post match

My gut feeling is still that we’ve got a good one in Manning, but his points return has been disappointing. Especially considering he’s had generally decent player availability in his tenure up to now.
He’s on a 3.5 year contract regardless, so hate him or love him it’s gonna be a long time he’s at the helm. I think he’ll do well.
