The thing is, performances usually align to results. Not always but it often happens.

By which I mean the 2 can catch up..If a side are riding their luck but results are strong the two will often eventually align and perhaps over correct.

Vice versa if playing well but results poor to mediocre.

Problem is here, it's hard to know exactly where we are at..performances have been varied, results have been varied under Manning. For Coventry and Watford away, we have Millwall and Norwich at home.

For sure, we saw it with Preston's overperformance earlier in the season and where they are now.

I think the biggest issue in our results and performances not aligning well of late is getting into good positions but not making good chances (well trodden ground here I realise). And then last night, we click and look more dangerous and are let down by our defence (Max having a rare poor 90). It's just not seeming to happen for us is it, which is why I find posts saying we shouldn't be unhappy a bit annoying. I didn't think we were going to get hammered yesterday as OP called consensus. I knew it was a tough match but we're a good team with a good manager and good players who can beat any team in this league with fair wind. Great that we gave Cov such a tough night, but we haven't won a league match since Boxing Day. It's totally fair to be a bit peeved I reckon.

  2. Think PSR's original post may be born out of the 'results vs performance' split of people. I know performance is a better indicator of where you're going, but I've always been a result first guy. If we play like prime Ajax and lose I'm gutted. Play like Chippenham Town and win and I'm over the moon. Short-sighted maybe, but next season will be our 10th consecutive at this level. Patience begins to wear thin!

Since Boxing Day, I've said 'we played well, we were unlucky not to win' far too much. Maybe we're not making our own luck? Performances are mostly good, 1 win in 8 and 13th in the table is bound to lead to some disappointed fans though.

Personally, I would rather watch the best players we can afford, whether they be born in Whitchurch or Timbuktu.

I agree with this, though know it's an unpopular opinion. It's nice having local lads in the team but if there are better players about... also worth noting, our local lads are often more than happy to leave when the money comes! Praying Pring never falls into that category. We need him.

  4. Think he's worth playing in the deeper midfield 2. With Conway now a candidate to play in one of the 'behind the striker' roles especially. However until Twine or Sykes are fit I think he may well continue in the higher up. I agree it doesn't seem to be his best position, not enough output to be a forward.

  5. Still think Manning is a good pick up. But his having a worse record than Nige after equal games (this season) does make Jon look a plonker.

I’ll always wonder what this season may have been under Nige. And I’ll always blame the Lansdown’s for my never knowing.

  6. Conway does play 10, I’m sure I’ve heard that. He could be one of the split 10’s with Nahki as the 9. No harm in giving it a few games, there were signs of link-up tonight in the minimal minutes they shared.

For Leeds, maybe a 3-4-3 of:

Max: Tanner, Vyner, Dickie: McCrorie, Williams, Knight, Pring: Conway, Wells, Mehmeti.

Assuming all the injured lot still are come Friday.

Naismith in for Tanner and Twine in for Anis when all fit. Could be nice.

Presumably if we had bought him he wouldn't have got an issue?

If we had bought him he’d be a long term asset, not a short term play to make the play-offs. We’ll see if he can do it but he’ll struggle for the next few weeks!

Says who, or are you just presuming?

Assumption but we made it worth them recalling him from Hull. And he’s a proven Championship threat. Hope I’m wrong, think I’m right.

  9. Ok, maybe not the team we wanted to see. But it’s still a good XI imo. We need to win tonight, keep us in touch with the playoffs after no league wins in 4… we’re due one. You reds.

Twine is injured. Maybe what we deserve for doing a silly, expensive loan with no option!

Backwell leaves the MD20 as Williams comes back in after suspension.

    Injured:

    Atkinson

    Naismith

    Benarous

    Twine

    Sykes

  10. Rare lapse from me yesterday, apologies! Twine and Williams (cup-tied and suspended) were replaced in the MD20 by Backwell and Nelson. No new injuries on the night.

I’m honestly a bit gutted we didn’t take any of our chances. A replay at their place will be bloody tricky! But we did WHU second time around so all not lost.

Rumours Twine has a knock. Hope they’re wrong.
