That cross that led to the goal wasn't technically poor tho was it? Before that he executed a lovely pass from the wing into the centre through a number of Cheltenham players which also wasn't technically poor.

At Bristol City we have an element of our fanbase that always have to have one player that they have it in for, right now, that Cornick.

The likelihood that everyone will rate every member of a squad is pretty low, I would have thought, but in my experience when a player has been largely unrated by a good number of fans it’s usually because they’ve - ahem - not been very good.

For the record, I want City to succeed and I want every player to play their part, but the fact is that, as I think everyone can see (including yourself, I would expect), Cornick has been hugely disappointing so far.  No one is saying he doesn’t have any technique or spirit, but so far he has largely failed to deliver.  I hope he finds his mojo and transforms into the player we need, and I admire your optimism, but at some point he has to start delivering at the level we need and so far it simply ain’t happening.

A very good friend of mine has been a client of Albions for years and we watched the game at the Hawthorns last year from the VIP section. He has been telling me since March, the club has no money, it can't afford wages for their big names and everyone is for sale. He's even been offered his table in the restaurant this year on a special deal that if he pays for 2 years now, they will give him the third year free. The same has been done with boxes, etc. He said a lot of the players want gone, and all those in final year of contract have already been told they would have to take a significant pay cut to get a renewal. He was reliably told Jake Livermore who was there captain was offered only 10K a week (a fifth of his previous contract to sign a new deal) and said that they literally haven't got any money and he doubts there will be any signings, and they need to sell players. He watched their game on Tuesday against Cheltenham and he said they looked awful, they played most players for about 65-70 minutes and none of them looked any good. They also asked Chalobah to rip up his contract and move on this week, as they can't afford his wage.

My mate is certain that it will mainly be academy players this season, that they will fail FFP and that they will probably go into administration this year. He thinks they will be closer to going down, not up.

Agreed.  My father in law is a Baggie, and he has hated the past couple of seasons, and seems to feel more depressed than ever about their prospects this season.

Side has already been picked for Bath too, those who are playing know they are.

This is like we were due to play & a flash flood (& there have been plenty of them recently) means it is off.

They have plenty of other games coming up so will adjust accordingly.

I’ve just driven home in Bath and passed a couple of flash floods…

  4. Anyone know of any decent recent stuff that:

    • isn’t in a relentless flat 4/4 time
    • occasionally strays into a minor key
    • has a chord sequence that involves more than two chords, preferably with the odd 7th chucked in
    • has a tune that could stand on its own

Serious question, as what I hear day to day frequently depresses the hell out of me…

I've used the Jason Knight deal as an example before.

We probably spoke to him when he came here on the Ireland training camp. The bids then came after that.

It's just what happens these days. Clubs turn a blind eye because we all do it.

Another example is Kane has held talks with Bayern already.

Rumours are West Ham have come in at 22 million so as that isn't very far from what we want, I'd imagine us having no issues with him holding talks with them. In fact, we've probably encouraged it.

Thought you were talking about Wilson there for a moment … ?

But you still support a club that’s morally bankrupt & have been for some time. If city had Barton as manager I’d withdraw my support for as long as he was there.

You’re not one for the rehabilitation of offenders then?  I think a number of City players have had criminaI convictions over the years, some involving assault.  Would you have advocated the sacking of Bradley Orr and Steve Brooker?

When we have discussed this topic in the past; it was mooted that we could be one of, if not THE most underachieving club in Europe, never mind this country.

Relative to the size and prosperity of the city, I would think that was very likely to be true.

  8. Whichever way you slice it, for a city like Bristol to have not had a top division for over 40 years is shocking.  Preston is a one-horse town compared to Bristol.  People were talking about this even before we got into the old first division - remember, we’ve only been in the top division for four of the last hundred years.  Shocking really.
