Weird how you don’t see any of the big betting companies on football shirts- Ladbrokes, Will Hill, Coral, Sky Bet (though obviously they do sponsor the entire league). Even when Paddy Power started sponsoring teams they did it by putting no sponsor logo on the front of kits and making them old style.
How much business does a kit sponsor drum up? I’ve no desire to put my weekly £5 acca on Mansion Bet over SkyBet just because they sponsor City. Does this sway other people?

To be honest when mansion bet and dunder first sponsered us it made me have a look on there sites but the odds on mansion bet weren’t as good as others and the slots on dunder had lower bonus percentages than the bigger casino company’s so I didn’t bother .

Does it? I have never seen comparative figures. From my own experience I spent 15 years in the casino, and latterly casino and bingo industries and I left in great part because I became less enamoured of it as I moved up the ladder.

The idea that gambling was potentially dangerous to people's lives was not new to me, but on reaching upper management level I grew angry at the cynical way they tried to encourage "spend" especially in bingo which tends to cater for the less financially secure areas of society. The way they are able to advertise these days is a complete anathema to what was legal when I was involved, and that is a big worry.

I have had some bad experiences of alcohol as well, losing a brother to it's effects was devastating, I've lost count of the number of times I sat at a hospital bed over his life.

Having said that I am well aware that the vast majority of people can have a flutter and a drink and carry on their lives, so I agree with control rather than outright bans.

Yeh agreed both can be done with a lot of fun if your not an addictive person . I personally don’t see why they should ban either alcohol or gambling sponsers but can see why people have issues with them .

very sorry to hear about your brother and what it must of put you through, can’t believe that in the 21st century there’s still very little help for addictions and mental health issues(which normally lead to addiction)

Feel sorry for Wycombe. Derby will be back eventually but Wycombe may not

To be fair Wycombe should never have got promoted in the first place but agree that derby should have gone instead

Yep, definitely Lg1 is the place to be with new owners, with different FFP rules to the Champ.

I’ve seen people say this a few times before . Is it a big difference compared to the champ?

Well when SL took over we were in League One weren't we?? If so then have we impeoved on the field.... Surely yes given we are now in the Championship.

Like I replied to someone else City have always floated between league one and the champ so nothings changed

We're a league higher, we were in L1 when he took over and the Championship was just a dream so we must have overtaken a lot more than have overtaken us

Not at all , throughout our history we have always fell between the champ and league one so us being in the championship is just standard

Well, he threw all his resources at the wrong man… but I feel like we’ve been here before.

Yeh agreed that Ashton was an absolute ***** but lansdowns just as much to blame for his incompetence.

how a man that can rise a multi million pound business from the ground can fail so badly at a football club is very confusing

Problem is higher than Pearson. Not to many people like to look there though.

Exactly, people pull the wool over their eyes just because we have a couple of shiny stands

Have we actually improved on the field since the lansdowns took over? . Grateful for the money they have put in but the amount of teams that have overtaken us with less resources and potential is incredible in the time they have ran the club.

I was obviously jesting anyway, there's a big difference between a non league club having a "singing section" and a second tier side. We shouldn't need one little corner of the ground singing, you'd hope all areas joined in

    Yeh that’s a good point

I went for the first time this season last home game and the little redevelopments around the ground are starting to look good . The cricket stand behind the goal looks alot better than most non league grounds

Spot on but it won’t happen. The club would have a raft of complaints from angry SC holders losing their seats.

It might get be an option to offer those SS SC holders access to the south stand but with unreserved seating.

I think you are right unfortunately, maybe if the club was to grow a set of balls and try to sort the atmosphere issue out they could offer those who still want to sit at games a cheaper deal in other stands

    7. In my opinion, we need to have the whole of the South Stand allocated for singers, or at least the centre sections, allowing and encouraging those adjacent to join in when suitably aroused, as used to happen occasionally in the East End. What a sight and noise that was when it sometimes spread around the corner and into the enclosure.

    8. So in short, remove allocated seating in the South Stand, improve the football and take off the reserved shackles around our throats. It really would help if we had a little sustained success, like that in the 80's after 1982. Something to make us really proud and be able to pump our chests up.

The atmosphere at Ashton won’t change until those two points you have made are used .

Even when the atyeo had home fans standing it was always less than 50% home fans in that stand .

The only way the atmosphere will get better is when the south stand is made unreserved just like how pretty much every other championship club has fans stood behind the goal, if they can manage it so can we  no excuses

Haha that’s rich from a team itself that always used to have a “singing section”. Used to have quite a good and load following actually to be fair for that standard of football back in the Darren Perrin era. Used to regularly stand next to a certain Tyrone Mings singing and shouting in the cricket ground end behind the goal while his Dad belted a few goals in

I think covid showed what an atmosphere can do (or lack of) Liverpool/Anfield were not the same prospect without fans, I seem to recall quite a few teams picking up points there, most notably Villa’s 7-2 win and a 6 game run of defeats wasn’t it?

To be fair I’ve been watching Chippenham a few games a season for about 20 years and the stand where people stand and sing definitely isn’t referred to as a singing section but I get your point

It's really this simple. The Atyeo has the best acoustics,  and it's full of away fans. They should not be behind either goal. Stick em at the back of beyond somewhere. Don't say it's not possible, of course it's possible. Just do it.

Exactly it wouldn’t cost an awful lot to put a wall in a concourse to separate home and away fans , should shove them up at the end of the upper lansdown

Sorry, I couldn't resist that - just wondering how long it would take a get a response from the 'the sun shines out of Nigel's arse' fan club on here.  Not positioning you in any way on the subject, but answer - 11 mins!  Clearly quiet time because I was expecting seconds.

Seriously though, clearly its better performances and something to get excited about that will create more noise and atmosphere and more noise and atmosphere will probably help in turn with improving performances, and so on.  From where I am though, I think we do pretty well at AG in the circuimstances to keep things buzzing - much better than a lot of other grounds I've been to for sure.

When home performances pick up (as I'm sure they will with mr sunshine at the helm!), so too will atmosphere and even those who sit right next to the away end and wonder why they can hear them singing might be able to catch a few City songs.

Yeh not in the up niges ass fan club but if people aren’t willing to give him at least a couple seasons to try and build a squad to challenge then I don’t think they will ever be happy with who’s in charge

Imagine the finders fee for being part of the group that introduced Gamechanger to Ipswich. Whether that trip to the US was for SL (City or Bristol Sport) I don’t know.  I do recall a mate of mine saying Ashton wasn’t taking City to Florida for the club’s benefit.  Gonna ask him to try and recall what he knew.

⬆️⬆️⬆️ Let’s see if a certain someone can remember what he said at the time.

JET was allegedly on £20k per week at Ipswich, hence why QPR could afford him and we couldn’t.  I don’t know whether Cotts thought he could do it at Champ level….too big a risk on those wages.  Whilst under contract at Ipswich we were paying half (I think).

    Oh I see

yeh would of been a risk and tbf he didn’t set the world on fire at qpr

shame as he had some crazy talent

Nothing wrong with the atmosphere at the start of games in the South Stand.  After Nige has bored us all senseless again with turgid football and an almost compete lack of goal threat for an hour, however, it does tend to tail off quite a bit,  but its usually the case that desperation for points as we get to the latter stages is a strong motivator and the volume gets cranked up again.

Not having a go or anything but seeing as you are not a fan of niges play style who do you realistically think could come here and do a better job in rebuilding the mess that’s been left ?

    They're not wrong.

The singing's been decent at home games so far this season tbf.

Yeh I’m not slaying anyone in section 82 as there always trying to create an atmosphere and tbh can’t really do much more but it’s just the tinpot mentality around the club and some of our fans that’s annoying

Simple solution: Don't have a singing section, put some home fans in the Atyeo and divide it off. Don't play music until 2:45. Ignore what the stewards say. Atmosphere will build a bit more, make it more hostile for the away team, it feels too cosy for them I think.

I always remember the old Ashton Gate with the tunnel in the Atyeo the away team players trudging to the tunnel before the game and there being a bit of stick given and boo's. We make it far too comfortable.

Get Downsy off the mic as well shouting garbage for an hour before kick off.

Allow drinking in the stands (Not a BCFC issue)

The only positive of the speakers being shit in the dolman is that you don’t have to hear downsys cringey rants as loud

As an outside looking in at Ipswich it feels like Cook’s heart isn’t in it.  That’s poor on his part, but it feels like Cotts when Ashton came back into the club….where in Cotts case he just made himself more and more likely to get sacked, the altercation with a fan being the final straw.  I loved Cotts, but was disappointed that he didn’t try to play the game a bit and stay onside in the hope of buying some time and sorting things out.  Got to say the dynamic between Cotts and Tomlin would’ve been good to watch, might’ve ended in tears too, but would’ve been interesting.

Back to Cook, he’s not been vocal about transfers, is that because he’s accepted his fate, or is it Ashton hogging the limelight?

I don’t think Cook will be here by the next international break.

Talking about players like tomlin playing under cotts do you think that is why jet wasn’t wanted by us in the championship because of work rate ?

Also what happened between your fans and the stewards yesterday?
