Nah. We definitely knocked it out of play when Semenyo went down holding his leg.

Our misplaced passes go to the opposition, not into touch.?

That's fair enough, I've since been told that James knocked it out then pointed to Semenyo down needing treatment.

The only thing I can think of is that after Semenyo limps off & Wells comes on (and the time taken to do that!), Adomah simply forgot that he was meant to throw it back. Sounds like I'm making excuses for the guy but doesn't sound like something Adomah would do tbh.

I'm surprised Adomah is not getting a shed load of abuse.

Grade A ****  in my book.

He should have thrown the ball back to us, as is the accepted and expected restart when the ball is put it out for an injured player. (When Semenyo was injured.)

But no, he throws it down the line to a QPR team-mate, setting up the play which led to the corner and their goal.

Genuinely don't think you put the ball out for a throw in, it was a misplaced pass that went out.

Ordinarily, I'd agree that yes, he should have returned the ball but on this occasion, don't think Adomah's done anything wrong.

    Awful ref mind.

  3. After Shepton Mallet v Bridgwater on Boxing Day, went to Longwell Green v Oldland Abbotonians yesterday, second visit to the new 3G pitch at Shellards Road. Crowd of 756, swelled by a few postponements around, could have been even more but Brislington & Bristol Telephones got their games on.

Cracking game, well, cracking second half really. O's were 1-0 up at half time, suddenly found themselves 3-1 down by the hour mark. O's roared back with two goals to equalise before ex-Oldland Zac Feltham scored an 89th minute winner.

I watched them yesterday, you wouldn’t have been impressed!!.

Shepton Mallet did a ‘job’ on them and they had no answers, except completely losing their discipline.

Bridgwater aren’t going anywhere until they change their management and coaching team.

Was there as well, Bill, and 100% agree with your comment. Taylor could have gone for his lunge right on the touchline by me, then kicked the ball away, then got involved in a dugout scuffle.... he seemed hell bent on getting himself an early bath.

The co-owner Adam Murry was there yesterday; hugely ambitious to the point of being unrealistic IMO. Reckons he will get Bridgwater into League Two within seven years.

  5. This is sad news, thoughts go out to all the off field staff and players at this development. Never a good time to lose your job of course but at Christmas, and with hopes of a better New Year ahead, it's particularly harsh.

I went to their game last Saturday v Watford (I covered Villa u18 then was meant to be going to Villa v Burnley before it was P-P so made a late switch) and there was literally not a peep about any financial issues. Young lad who is the media manager there is devastated, it's his first gig since leaving Uni. Players were gradually adapting to Championship football life and picking up a result or two but this is awful news for the players. I see a couple of other teams have offered their facilities for the players to train in the meantime but a statement issued earlier suggests they'll be going into voluntary liquidation on 4th January.

  6. Massive congratulations to City's own Abi Harrison tonight. Made her first international start for Scotland Women tonight in a World Cup qualifier v Ukraine and scored a 90+3 equaliser to rescue a point for the Scots.

Girls on fire right now, I make that eight consecutive games she's scored in for club & country which is incredible at any level.

Great work Abi, such a proud evening for her family and her.

    Question for you.

Would you expect an Oxford supporter to get the  "Deeeeeeennnneeeeyyyyy" vibe   ?
If anyone on here saw that goal and got a  "Deeeeeeennnneeeeyyyyy" vibe , I wouldn't be checking their pulse. I'd be checking their sanity, or football allegiances !

As a neutral you could possibly enjoy it, as a City/Oxford and fair few others supporter ? Not so much.

    Fair point.

  8. Was working at the game last night, just incredible, the second half of extra time gave this neutral goosebumps.

Rovers take the lead on 48, Kark Robinson makes a tripe sub on 54 including Matty Taylor who got dogs abuse all night. He comes on, scores a pen with 90 seconds, 1-1. No further goals, extra time.

Billy Bodin, another ex-Gas makes it 2-1 and it's soon 3-1, goals on 91 and 92. Gas dead and buried, no way back from here. Joey Barton makes a triple sub of his own intoducing among other Sion Spence, a Crystal Palace loanee watched on by the bloke sat next to me, his loans manager Mark Bright (yes, that one!). Spence scores on 109 to give them a glimmer of hope then Aaron Collins, who's level on goals with Dan Bentley, absolutely creams a 25 yarder into the top bin with his weaker foot on 114. Bloody hell, game on! Then a ball that looks for all the world like it's going out for a goal kick is flicked back for Spence to hammer home the winner on 118 sparking a pitch invasion. Go & watch that goal, if it doesn't give you "Deeeeeeennnneeeeyyyyy" vibes, check your pulse.

A year ago last weekend, I watched Torquay 5 Crawley 6 in the FA Cup First Round. Said then it was the best game I had ever been to, just a shame there were no fans. Last night was almost as good, definitely in my top three and I watch 100+ games a season. Fair play, some on here, nay, most on here hate the Gas and I get that, but **** me, that comeback was something else, it really was.

  9. Just got back from a chilly Ashton Gate. Wow, that's a very decent performance from the Ladies today - hit the woodwork three times in addition to the three goals that counted. Could, and possibly should, have had seven or eight as a couple of times, shots were at the keeper rather than either side.

That said, they played really well so would be churlish to demand better than an impressive 3-0 victory. Satara Murray was once again superb at the back and Aggie Beever-Jones had her best game I've seen her play, absolute class and took her goal well.

And best of all, more than 3,000 there to see it which must have been great for the girls to play in front of.

From about 30 minutes onwards, I thought that was the best I’ve seen us play this season.

My view of the players today and generally:

GK: Bentley - really good hands at this level, definitely one of the better keepers at this level.

RB: Morgan - best game of the season today, she got them going with her runs down the right first half and linked well second too.

RCB: Aspin - really improving, her covering was really good today.  For a 16 year old she has huge potential.

CB: Layzell - injured early, ball booted in her face, looked nasty.

LCB: Murray - absolute rock and she has bailed out our defence this season, today she was equally good.  Quick and strong.

LB: Cataldo - clever on the ball, defends well, had a good game

CM: Palmer - really classy today, 2 goals, 2 assists, but passed the ball really well, brings calmness to possession.

CM: Kuyken - thought she was a bit quiet today, but technically one of our best players.  Plays off either foot, maybe prone to always trying to play between the lines.

CM: Bull (nee O’Connor) - first time I’ve really noticed her, industrious, clever touches

LW: Beever-Jones - on as sub early, but so good on the ball.  I see she’s on loan from Chelsea, it showed.  Her dribbling got us on the front foot.

CF: Harrison - works so hard up front, gets goals. She needs more support as has to do too much on her own.  Been our best player this season.

RW / SS: Johnson - bit lightweight at times but has that knack of getting into good positions, especially in between CB and FB.  Works hard though.

Didnt realise how many are just 20/21.

Can't disagree with any of that, Dave. All I'd add is that Murray always looks so calm & collected even when under pressure, nothing seems to panic her. Beever-Jones would always be in my starting XI. Thought Cataldo near the end tried one too many little flicks & tricks that could have cost us if we'd been just a goal up. But the most impressive of all has been Lauren Smith, she has been a breath of fresh air this season. At times under Tanya Oxtoby, I literally had no clue as to what team she would pick and who would play where; with Lauren, I can pretty well predict the formation once the team's been published.

Can't believe Aspin is only 16, that's mad. There's another 16 year old there too, Maddie Wylde, but she's on the bench most weeks.

  11. Just back from the game, that's as good a City performance as I've seen before, albeit they're in a different division these days. Satara Murray is an exceptional player, Palmer & Kuyken in midfield are under rated and all the while you have Harrison up top, anything can happen. Palmer hit the bar from a corner earlier this season & I nearly called it when she trotted over to take the set piece. Johnson scored her goal from a Palmer corner too.....

Good to see the gaffer was up there too.

We have to keep talking about it.

Look at this from Boro v Barnsley last night. Again, Barnsley have a white third kit this season, and Boro have a white away kit. This Red v Green match up could have been so easily avoided. Our game v Barnsley in 9 days time has serious potential to look like this one if Barnsley do not wear their white alternative. If you can add your voice in any way to make sure they do that, we'd all appreciate it.

    Barnsley's third kit.

    Puma Adult Third Shirt 2021-22

@NIGHTMARE has there been any discussion amongst the Barnsley fanbase regarding your green kit and people struggling to distinguish it?

Sorry, EA, when I said about getting teams to "change" their kit, I meant change as in which one they play other teams in on a set day to avoid this red/green confrontation. That, fed through the right channels in the right way, should be achievable.

    No worries mate.

I sat at pitch level last night, right down in row 2. Had no issues at all seeing the Forest players as that kit would work in place of the floodlights. From a colourblind perspective last night should have been fine for most people.

But picking out our players against the red seats and crowd of the other three stands was trickier, especially as the rain darkened the red to near black.

Now, that's not a colourblind issue, that's just an issue caused by having your seats the same colour as your shirts. Silly, but neither home kit colour nor seat colour is changing in a hurry.

Upon reading this again with more awake eyes, I can't really add too much more to what I typed the other night. I will send in some feedback to my immediate bosses but how much weight they carry in an area that is quite commercially sensitive is questionable. They are able to get me moved to a better position to collect data during the game but getting a club to change kit is a whole lot more difficult, I assume.

The talk in the press room on Tuesday night was about the difficulties faced by all of us with the AFCB kit. In the room were analysts, journalists, the ball tracking guys, commentators, club media and summarisers so a wide range of people and from my admittedly small "survey", everyone had the same problems with player identification. We as Opta analysts are trained to look for other attributes in players in order to make positive identifications of players such as hair style/colour, boot colour etc which is going to be little or no help with the colour blindness issue of course.

At the end of the day, it boils down to the fact that all supporters have the right to enjoy watching the game (even if there's two goals for the opposition in stoppage time!).

@Hamdon Mart very interesting to hear from someone that works in the industry and is directly affected. I've had some minor issues in my own job but I've not heard from someone in football before.

Do your employers know about the issues? Do you know any colleagues that sometimes struggle? Is it something you'd even feel comfortable admitting to your employer? Ever had it mentioned by a player? Honestly I've got so many questions for you - please answer only those you are comfortable with, and of course DM if you don't want to answer on this thread.

Have you had to deal with Man Utd's away kit this season? Dreadful thing. Can't imagine the sponsor is happy that their logo fades into the shirt for about 9% of the population!

@Davefevs I think the American sports have it sorted as those leagues were created in the era of black and white TV as a TV product. In greyscale you have to have light v dark. Just look at the greyscale version of Wales v Ireland in @1960maaan's post above to see why green v red doesn't work. This was a decision driven by TV, and the side effect is that it's also pretty reliably good for those with colourblindness.

EA, have not long got back from the match and have a 6am start tomorrow so wll compose a longer reply tomorrow if that's okay.

We were talking about this in the press room tonight, not spcifically the red/green issue but more the numbers being unreadable at certain clubs. I think Saturday's problem with the numbers got worse as the game went on; as the players were sweating, their dark green shirts got darker still and the numbers then almost disappeared in some cases.

I doubt very much I have any influence in getting anything done, I'm only an in-stadium analyst but I will mention it and see if anyone else has reported similar. FWIW, I watched EFL on Quest this morning and think I spotted at least three other green/red matches too; there may not be many teams that have a green first kit but there are more than a few that have a grreen 2nd/3rd kit.

  15. 1 hour ago, ExiledAjax said:

Thing is I don't think it needs more rules. Legislation and further regulation should be the last resort, and personally I think the tools are already in place. We simply need clubs, leagues, and kit designers to be made aware of the existing FA and UEFA guidance, and then for them to implement it and bear it in mind when deciding on kit design and selection.

Regarding Saturday's game: I don't think a green kit is ever wise, but if the marketing guys at Bournemouth want it then that's fine. But they should then consider the guidance and realise that the time to use that kit is against Fulham, Swansea, Derby, Coventry, or any other team that plays in white or lighter blue. To use it against teams that play in red is inconsiderate.

This season I am seeing more fan pressure, and also some response from clubs (see the Huddersfield example above). I am hopeful.

My greatest thanks is to someone like yourself who despite not being colourblind, has shown interest, support and compassion for those people who do. Thank you.

I'm right behind you on this one, EA, and as someone that isn't colourblind. I replied on the thread on Twitter to Wes, I work for Opta at the ground and it was nigh on impossible to tell some of the players numbers from in the Lansdown Stand. Didn't the PA get the wrong name when announcing the first goal or did I dream it?

Have noticed the issue with kits a few times this year and from my perspective, it needs sorting. Reading's kit this season doesn't have the large white patch/red number combo this year, presumably because they are playing in a new 125th anniversary kit. Sheffield Wednesday's are tricky, Rovers numbers are hard to pick out too this season. And as for West Brom's kits..... aaarrgghhhh!!!
