For me this is the key point. To ask someone, after a year of no cricket, to be a main batter and wicket keeper is a very big ask. I suppose its said with hindsight, but many people wanted Foakes and Bairstow in the team if you look to the start of this thread.

It's a symptom of too much 20 over cricket i reckon. Bazball is basically 20 over cricket in test match form. If it comes off, it looks impressive, but if it fails it looks stupid

The best thing ive read about this comes from Jonathan Agnew. He said if the Aussies saw Bairstow out of his crease several times before the ball was dead, they should have given him a verbal warning. Seems fair to me.
