  1. Surprised Barton's the odds-on favourite for the Burnley job, maybe spurred on by the Edwards to Watford deal? Plus with the trial ongoing surely simply so risky to sign the bloke?
  2. As I have mentioned many-a times my father is gas, a lot of my family is gas; so I follow them closely and talk a lot with them about their players and vice versa, but I support City. It's so weird that when anyone knows more about them lot than mental gymnastics, or when they do something relatively impressive, or simply "hur dur Rovers bad" they're immediately accused of supporting them for some reason ? There's many of them on this thread if I was one I would just simply say so.
  3. Just naming all the players that have a chance at leaving isn't really good analysis no? I get they're shite and all that, but Pitman, Brown, Harries and Spence haven't played for them in months. Coutts looks to have signed a new deal, Evans will likely sign a new deal. Connolly's contract is up. Jaakkola seems to be extremely injure prone. Whelan's a backup. Rodman I don't believe has played all season. Similar to Clarke. For EFL levels it really isn't an extraordinary rebuild. And I'd put money on given the success of Taylor and Anderson, if they don't go back there (which btw not just dumb sags it seems Newcastle Chronicle reporters are saying that he should go back there on loan) then you'd imagine Rovers would be a prime club for people to want to given the success of those two.
  4. They started this multiple games ago though? I'd agree if it was suddenly for this one game, but it's been for multiple games. Plus the promotion clause will most likely only be enough to buy a burger and chips at the local
  5. The people on this thread implying it was rigged, it's not a good look you numpties! All you're doing is providing the sags with ammunition when it will evidently come out that the game wasn't rigged. Shocker: Rovers signed a Scunthorpe player when they were 17th! Considering Scunthorpe have played with their kids for a number of games, the insinuation that it's dodgy despite the fact that they've played like this for many games is just a bad look. Rovers came from 3-1 behind to win 4-3 away at Rochdale last week; yet no Rochdale players signed for Rovers with a promotion clause, which let's be honest is probably peanuts it's the gas after all. The fact is, it's a bad look for many people to be saying "it was rigged!" because what they should be saying is we don't give a ****. They finished below a club whose literal thing is they are the "vegan" club. We're clear of them
  6. I want to echo some sentiments of congratulatory feelings towards them. Although I do think some focuses on the quality of the Scunthorpe team is a bit OTT; yes they played youngsters but it wasn't a one-off occasion; they've been doing it the last couple of games, and they've been getting relatively decent results, and they're not the first team to do it: I remember Leyton Orient doing it a couple seasons ago. Also worth pointing out that it's not like the last game is worth more, they got 3 points today and 3 points in September when they won. When Bolton were going bankrupt I remember them playing their youngsters early into the League One season, they were getting battered and then all of a sudden they got cleared and on deadline day signed a TONNE of players, they still went down but they weren't getting battered every week, I thought that was probably more unfair but that's just football I guess. They subbed off their LB early on because apparently he was just getting rinsed for fun. I also want to echo some testaments about I wish the rivalry was less hostile and more competitive. Personally, I like having a nice, top-quality Bristol derby. If Rovers are just shit (or to hear some they want them to go bust!) it's just a bit odd to me. My now-deceased step-father was a massive City fan through and through, unfortunately the last game he watched for us was the Hull game before he died. Him and my father, who's a sag, got along very well. Unfortunately since the 80s the rivalry has just soured so much it's crazy looking back. This isn't a dig at our fans, because they've definitely got a lot of pricks. Just wish they were better because I love the derby!
  7. Connolly's contract up in the summer, will be interesting if Cardiff go for a new deal or if Barton can persuade him to join
  8. I think calling him the catalyst is a bit much, given Rovers were in the top 3 in the form table from the end of October to when he signed on deadline day in January. I doubt he'd go back on loan to Rovers next season anyway, but it seems they have first refusal on a loan in League One next season as a clause in the deal; but given there's been interest from Millwall I doubt it. Taylor's interesting, feel like Stoke might want another season to wait for Jagielka to ease out, who's a regular at the minute, I wouldn't necessarily downplay clubs focusing on development by seeing how they perform at the next level and by keeping them in a stable environment, know some Rovers mates who've spoken to his dad who goes to all the games, and says he's enjoying his time there, as hard as I find that to believe given it's Rovers, you never know. Especially as the place has a good atmosphere at the moment, they've been on frankly unbelievable form for the league since the end of October (think they're 1st in that form table) and wouldn't be surprised if Stoke went "loan him till January to see if the momentum continues." Connolly's interesting, my mate Mark told me Barton was apparently interested in him before he joined Rovers, and his contract's up in the summer. Could join Rovers. All seems more indicative of having a manager who, whatever you think of his scummy activities, is a notable player with connections; even if they lose these 3 I wouldn't expect them to suffer extremely, given momentum and the fact some of their permanent signings e.g. Evans, Finley have caused quite a stir too. Of course if they don't go up you never know, I think the biggest person they'd probably want to keep is Barton though, I feel like without Barton Anderson doesn't happen.
  9. Because the inbred knobs hype up every player they sign, only player I can remember them being mortified over signing, ironically, was Clarke-Harris! Usually I'm just interested and want to see how much they've overhyped them, gives me good ammunition with gas mates when they sign a well rated player and he massively underperforms or when they sign a stinker who inevitably stinks the place out.
  10. Tbf to the sags, I usually check their players based on forums of other clubs, from what I can remember the initial reactions from fans for their signings last season, in comparison to how they ended up playing, based on one or two sag mates was the following: Grant: Meh, better in midfield than defence. Seemed to fulfill that, couple shockers but generally just fine. Baldwin: Sunderland fans hated him basically, very error-prone, fulfilled that at the sags Ehmer: Rated highly by Gillingham fans, awful at the sags, lost his place in the team after being made captain (says a lot given how shite they were) Nicholson: Generally unknown. From all accounts the sags' best player last season. Ayunga: Goal record said it all beforehand and was apparently ass, which is to be expected when you sign a player who only 2 years beforehand scored something like 1 in 4 in the Conference. Westbrooke: Rated by Coventry, underperformed at Rovers but got better apparently Tutonda: Rated by Barnet, did well first couple games then Tisdale came in and basically never played again. Hanlan: Gillingham fans laughed their heads off, was awful apparently, and all my gas mates said he started off okay at best and then scored like 1 in his last 30  Williams: Fine and played fine McCormick: Unknown, one of their best players it seems Oztumer: Rated by Walsall but not rated whatsoever by Bolton, played awfully Initial thoughts from fans of previous clubs on these 4 seem to be: Coutts: Rated highly Hughes: Rated highly but old Finley: Rated highly but very hot-headed Can't even remember and can't be bothered to look up the last one's name, but he started last season captain at Carlisle and ended it backup to a 20 year old. Apparently he's dog. The one to look out for, the rest seem fine. Coutts is a decent signing in particular.
  11. They've released their retained list and agent Little has finally departed it seems. But their top goalscorer, Luke Leahy, a left-back. Who Barton in an interview the other day said was committed to staying at the club and wanted to stick with it and who Barton made captain, has rejected a contract offer and now will leave. You couldn't write it!!
  12. Their reporter says there's nothing in it, and tbh I doubt it too. Surely the bloke wouldn't have gone to the sags in the first place when they're on the brink of relegation and suddenly ditch them; surely he'd have just waited for a better job?
  13. Grew up loving a lot of punk; the Clash, the Sex Pistols, the Ramones are some of my favourite bands of all time. IDLES are fantastic and one of the only bands that I think can hold the torch of their predecessors in the modern times of Imagine Dragons and Greta van Fleet. Joy as an Act of Resistance is fantastic.
  14. I literally barely care about the gas anymore. Will we still be talking about the gas when we're in the Prem (if that ever happens) and they're in League 2? I hope not. The time of the Bristol rivalry is in my eyes over. We won. They're not close to us in terms of practically anything. Like yes, Rovers aren't a proper football club. That's precisely the point. We are, and shouldn't be concerning ourselves with them as much as we do. If we pushed a rivalry with Cardiff instead, we would 100% see expectations of this club rise hugely. Chelsea used to be concerned with Fulham, now they're concerned with Arsenal and Spurs. As for Stoke, I don't think I ever saw a Stoke fan mention Port Vale when they were 10th with Hughes, why would they? It's so far beneath them. Something like Portsmouth and Southampton I understand because Portsmouth have taken a huge drop; but the sags will, in my personal opinion, never compete with us for the foreseeable future. So it seems pointless and all it does is lower the standards to where we accept anything which is slightly above a pathetic team like the gas
  15. Pardon me Eastend but when's the parade for "we've only got one win less than Bournemouth." What nonsense. Last time I checked we also had 8 more losses. You do realise that we have 16 losses this season; more than Sheffield Wednesday who are in the relegation zone? The gas are pathetic and everyone has known this for years. They are not a serious football club. We've been begging for progression and promotion but this is, in my personal opinion, a big part of what holds us back. I don't think I ever see Nottingham Forest fans talk about Notts County or Stoke talk about Port Vale despite the other constantly talking about the latter, why's that? Because the gap is so large that they're not seen as even worth bothering with. Like yes I remember a time when things were worse but I don't care, I don't like the sags will be happy going down because "oh well at least we're not in the conference anymore." Everything is relative. We have the potential to be doing much, much better than what we're doing now and instead we're happy with being a middle-table Championship club because "oh at least the gas are rubbish." Like we'll get pounded 6-0 but it's like "oh well I mean it's Watford and Rovers lost 6-1 so it's not that bad." Like obviously, success is relative if Arsenal got relegated they'd be a lot more unhappy than we would be if we finished 9th.
  16. Regarding the sags; not sure if anyone's seen this: Bristol Rovers' stance over Joey Barton revealed as ex-Motherwell manager is also considered - Bristol Live (bristolpost.co.uk) Another option they're looking at is former Motherwell manager Stephen Robinson as an alternative to Barton. Robinson is, just like Tisdale, a former City player. Seem to recall him being on loan to us under Wilson. Imagine, agent Tisdale gets them in this position and agent Robinson finishes off the job! It might even be better than when they got relegated from the football league whilst wearing their own kit. Well...nothing could be quite as embarrassing as that...
  17. One man I feel for tonight is BP's Rovers correspondent, you can see he's lacking the energy and how bad the sags were, the descriptions on player ratings gave me a right giggle https://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/match-reports/accrington-stanley-bristol-rovers-live-4958447 "James Daly: 5" "Ran around" "Cian Harries: 5" "Only conceded one when he was on the pitch"
  18. Cor you go off football for a couple days and this happens!! Completely expected of course, maybe different to a lot of what people on here may be thinking I think their squad is actually half-decent. Absolutely light years off ours of course, but I'd be surprised if they went down. I just think Garner is absolutely woeful, recruitment seems okay for what they want to be; a Peterborough-type model, but as a manager he's hilariously awful, and was clearly never taking them anywhere. Think Paul Cook is unrealistic for them, think it'll probably be Michael Flynn from Newport; he was talking about the sacking on EFL Quest and he seemed to somehow respect the sags, even said they could be a Championship club!. Local manager too, at least relatively. And I think Wally would actually pay compensation to get him. Also talked about the fact the manager would need time, and given Wally gave this guy 11 months, a guy who hadn't had a job before, I'm assuming he'd get 12 years minimum!
  19. Honestly it’s kind of fair *****, whether or not it will end like the sags are dreaming is one thing but wiping off all their debt, especially since some on here including me thought that that debt could’ve bankrupted them in future years, is kind of just fair enough wally
  20. Red cards against whilst playing at home in League One this season: Portsmouth: 5 The Sags, Wycombe: 4 Gillingham, Peterborough: 3 Accrington, AFC Wimbledon, Fleetwood, Ipswich, Lincoln, Oxford, Rotherham: 2 Bolton, Burton, Shrewsbury, Southend: 1 Blackpool, Coventry, Doncaster, MK Dons, Rochdale, Sunderland, Tranmere: 0
  21. Jammy gits. Mind you, their first goal was an absolute thunderc*nt
  22. Disagree. As much as we know about the Sags' pathetic attempt to call themselves a football club, it's undeniable that Garner has good links, if he didn't he wouldn't have been able to get Daly or Blackman, personally I think a lot of Championship clubs would have been perfectly happy with those signings, and me personally I would've been happy with Blackman as a signing ahead of Niki last season. The Sags as well do seem to have created a reputation as a good footballing support, a farce of course, but I would argue that teams around the country other than Bristol aren't aware on just how big the gap is in that sense. I use twitter a lot and I regularly see people ranking football fanbases or the size of different clubs and put us at the same level of the Sags. Complete lies of course, but would James Daly of Crystal Palace really realise that the Sags are close to financial crisis and have a shit fanbase when they big themselves up so much, I would argue no. Plus Garner having experience at Palace and having an unfortunately accurate resume in terms of helping to develop young players, I think the Sags are much more attractive in that respect than a lot of us realise, as we know them as the shambles that they are.
  23. Just signed Tammy’s younger brother ??, the gift
  24. On a side note, in the last 10 minutes the sags became the only side in the top 4 English divisions to have not scored a goal in their respective domestic league in 2020
  25. Multiple times in the past month or so I’ve seen posts of “when times are bad, just remember that things could always be worse. We could be the fewers” or similar posts. Me thinking this is an awful mindset to have because it leads to mediocrity doesn’t make me a sag. The sheer existence of this forum does seem to prove my thinking no? The fact that even when we’re on losing runs this forum seems to never drop to the 2nd page baffles me. Obviously it’s completely justified sometimes like when Cockman left them for a team in the league below despite being in contention for promotion at the time, or us signing Matty. A lot of the fan base don’t have this mindset, but there’s a minority that do that frustrates me. There’s also a minority who accuse anyone who doesn’t agree with every word they say as being a “Sag in disguise.” It’s just odd. I would rather have Bristol City forum about Bristol City, but hey, that’s just me. Or at least be talking about rivals who are higher quality than Rovers. Because the gap is so big at this point I just don’t think I care about the rivalry with them that much anymore as I used to, it’s kind of dead.
