  1. That isn't correct, Slave ships used Bristol as a port for over 100 years from the late 1600's to the early 1800's. Another problem with the view is that Bristol became incredibly wealthy from exploiting Sugar and Tobacco both the products of slave labour. Most major Bristol families had fingers in the wealth generated from slaves, the Smyth family from Ashton Court owned plantations, Colstons from the slave trade and the Wills family from tobacco grown on slave plantations. And this should all be about 'correcting' history not 'deleting' it. As my O-Level history teacher often stated, "History is written by the victors, not those they oppressed."
  2. The article also needs to be read in the context of The Guardian's ongoing 'Cotton Capital' series into the slave owning history of the founders of what was The Manchester Guardian. The fascinating articles are available online Cotton Capital | The Guardian
  3. My recollection is that Bristol City renegotiated a transfer deal with some one with cashflow issues. Can't remember all the details, but those in glasshouses ....
  4. All to do with the Barnett Formula. Barnett formula | Institute for Government
  5. New buildings can be iconic too I heard it was full of rats - and not just the politicians
  6. I would pull it all down and rebuild new for a fraction of the price.
  7. This is all part of a massive redevelopment of a terribly run down place (i've been there recently, but not to the football). Will bring massive improvements to the railway station, surrounding area and the football club. To me just the sort of project the state should be investing in, unlike HS2, Cross-Rail, London Underground, The London Stadium, rebuild of Houses of Parliament, rebuild of Buckingham Palace etc etc etc
  8. A significant deposit on a decent house in Bristol.
  9. Semenyo went for roughly 8 figures - he made mistakes all the time. Scott will probably go for well into 8 figures - he makes mistakes all the time. We are fishing in a pond where we might spend £1 million or so, and/or pay them £500,000 a year. Who are all these perfect players that we seemingly fail to sign? List please!
  10. Forest still have to play Southampton and Leicester and Everton still have to play each other. Those two games will probably decide the relegation positions assuming Forest, Leicester and Everton all play as awfully as they have so far this season.

Most impressed with Gary Johnson and Torquay though. Seemingly dead and buried a few weeks a go, 5 wins on the trot have real put the cat amongst the relegation chickens.
  12. Idehen is an interesting one - he's captained the u21s in the last 6 matches or so - not sure I would do that if he is not on the proverbial bus. It could be that he's at the bus stop seeing if it will stop ...
  13. The test for inclusion in the accounts is 'is it more likely than not that the amount will be paid.' As the majority of lower court cases are not appealed and most appeals to higher courts fail it will be difficult to avoid a charge to the profit an loss account where a lower level court has decided against you.
  14. As the player contract is no longer in existence my understanding is that all costs would need to be deducted immediately on the decision, excluding any costs already deducted,
  15. The rugby club runs at a loss. The income is split into three main parts, all around £4 to £5 million in the last accounts, being ticket sales, income from the league and commercial income. The rugby club also paid Ashton Gate Limited £540,000 in rent, which is income for FFP purposes in Bristol City Holdings Limited. The 'beer income' will be reflected in the Ashton Gate Ltd accounts, any profits count as income for FFP purposes in Bristol City Holdings Limited. The Pula Sport Limited/Pula Limited group in Guernsey is funding the football club in the region of £18-£20 million a year in cash, and £3-4 million goes into the rugby club. Given the loss position of the UK entities it makes no commercial or tax sense to have huge unrelieved losses in the UK and profits in Guernsey. It just increases the cash requirement of the UK entities, which has to be funded from Guernsey,
  16. My best guess is the sale of RFC Bearwood Ltd which owns the training ground. Selling a property owning company doesn't result in the 'profit' being excluded from FFP computations. That fits the comments in the decisions. I do expect to hear a large bang as @Mr Popodopolous reads this message ???
  17. Virtually nil for an impact this season. Reading have until 30 June to sort their FFP mess. I suspect that by the time any review is done it will be far too late to sort this season.
  18. So current Reading position -6 points now New restricted budget for 2023/24 (and effectively stay on Embargo) Issues in respect of 2022/23 FFP still to be resolved
  19. New job seriously getting in the way of free time. Apparently there is a four day weekend soon, when I will have some time to look, assuming I don't get given tickets for everyday of the beer festival!
  20. The relevant part of the agreed decision follows: If we work through it: 6.1 Happened last season. 6.2 Has allegedly been trigged now, so the 6 point penalty applies. Note that each of the triggers for activation is itself an offence under the EFL regulations. So 7 is applied. This starts 'The Suspended Penalty will be in addition to any sanction ... [for breaching P&S Rules or the budget]'. 6.2 i) and iii) are P&S Rule breaches, 6.2 ii) is a budget breach. 7 goes on that the suspended penalty does not mitigate the sanction for the breach. So to activate the suspended penalty of the six point deduction there has to be an offence which carries its own penalty, which could be a points deduction (or something else).
  21. I'm wondering if the obvious delays are because there are negotiations ongoing in respect of an agreed decision for the breaches which caused the imposition of the suspended offence.
  22. I don't know what the owner's cost of capital is. My view is that all clubs should be run as commercial profit making enterprises, it would be better for the game in the long run.
  23. And they want to keep it that way! Pula charges us base rate + 2, so you could argue Wrexham are getting a good deal.
  24. You need to think of Companies House as just a data storage warehouse, it does little else.
