  1. I think we all do - well on here anyway ? Currently the clubs and Board set the rules and the Financial Unit applies them.
  2. I think you have misunderstood the position. The EFL board no longer have any input into monitoring FFP compliance. That is the role of the new unit, who review and investigate and refer where appropriate to the disciplinary panel. I understand that the Stoke position is progressing.

    Emiliano Sala

IIRC Cardiff raised the direct/indirect Nantes liability issues as a significant part of their case around not paying the fee, and the direct/indirect behaviour of Nantes in invalidating the contract. I think that those are both valid points. FIFA determined that the contract was completed and that the liability issues were a matter for another court. Yes Cardiff lost the case, but the liability issues remain open.

    Emiliano Sala

Horrible case to deal with, the fact that Sala died should always be remembered. I see nothing wrong with what Cardiff have done here, although the messaging from the club is awful. Firstly establish whether there is a liability to Nantes for the fee, there is, that is now final. If Cardiff do not want to pay, Nantes can now sue them for the debt, and Cardiff will ask for those they feel are responsible for the loss suffered to be added as defendants and the matter will go through the courts again, given the sums involved that is inevitable. Clearly if Nantes are partially responsible then that complicates matters even further.
  5. Neither then is Mitrovic.
  6. So have we moved on from Vyner to Martin??
  7. So in the first four games our expected goals were 4.5 and our actual goals were 6? So either our goal scorers are world class or xG is meaningless?
  8. You might be right as my ex used to say! Given that my initial response was to a comment about Ferguson criticising José Mourinho ...
  9. It's not the presence in the stands, but the string pulling behind the scenes which is the problem. He left Man Utd in a mess and then critiques every move of every successor from the Directors' Box.
  10. And therein lies the problem. Since he 'retired' all he has done is dabble, whenever is suits him. United should have said 'Thanks, now pi$$ off, and don't come back.'
  11. How to re-write history in one post!
  12. I think that we all need to get used to the idea that transfer fees are slowly disappearing from football at this level. It will become standard for players to be signed for free, to be paid a wage for say three years, and to leave at the end of the contract or be re-signed based on their then market value. The only exception being younger players who make an impression. Based on what is known so far the carrying value of the squad would have been under £10 million at the end of 2022, and probably less than £5 million at the end of 2023. The 2020 and 2021 figures were £25 million and £14 million respectively. Think of all that capital not tied up in the business.
  13. I have to say I enjoyed my weekend in Bristol and the match, but then again I'm realistic about the club, and football is a distraction from the rest of my life! A couple of things to add - the stadium, my first visit, is brilliant, and with my FFP head on I was delighted to see the vast number of pints being downed! Secondly whenever I return I am surprised about two things, firstly how wonderful the Floating Harbour area is compared to similar areas in most cities I have been to. Secondly how c£%p the traffic, roadworks and parking is! As far as City's current achievements go, fascinated to see what the two top results celebrated inside the stadium were. That's not denigrating those results but does put the club in context.
  14. I have a vague recollection of that being tried once, and the recorded continual foul mouthed abuse from players and managers etc meant that it was never tried again?
  15. It will be the first time that I have managed to get to Ashton Gate for 7 odd years. The previous two were against Walsall at the end of the promotion season and the Warnock Crystal Palace game in 2009. Based on that history it should be a great game!
  16. All sorted now - thank you.
  17. Hi all Currently trying to take advantage of the £140 robinstv offer for those outside the UK. When signing in through Opera it keeps asking me to "confirm that I'm not a robot' but doesn't provide a process to prove that I am not. Anyone else having the same issue? Thanks
  18. My take on this is - 1. Really - you want the ref to give a penalty instead of a goal? 2. The ball goes straight to the keeper, following the 'new rules' how has the contact impacted on the game? 3. Definitely a penalty 4. How has the contact impacted on the game?
  19. Just back home from the match - my views are: These things happen Naismith was in charge - a while since we've had someone that is in charge - brilliant signing Sykes looks useful Scott looked lost (grabs helmet) Vyner was great (grabs body armour!)
  20. Thanks @Mr Popodopolous lots of significant changes and lots of more subtle ones. I do get the impression that the changes are all in the right direction particularly with the new internal oversight and dispute panel. As regards the 'material' and 'immaterial' issue my view is that an overspend resulting in a 1-3 point deduction is immaterial in the context of the FFP deductions.
  21. The following Court case in respect of a 'Cross-Class Cram-Down' and HMRC's position as a secondary preferential creditor is worth a read. Houst Ltd, Re [2022] EWHC 1941 (Ch) (22 July 2022) (bailii.org)
  22. Louis Britton has his say .... and so does the rest of the Football League ... The young striker, who recently signed for Cork City ...
