You just know the season you don’t renew is the season we will go up

The one year I didn’t renew we won the league and cup under Cotts. Might not renew next year and you can all thank me later! 🤣

    • An orchestra pit is the area in a theatre (usually located in a lowered area in front of the stage) in which musicians perform. Orchestral pits are utilized in forms of theatre that require music (such as opera and ballet) or in cases when incidental music is required.

Surely got an “L” for the same reason drawling does and good ideal does. Cause we be Bristol my lover 🤣

Assuming there is no financial advantage either way, the only advantage is that if we sign him permanently, then he can play against West Brom later in the season.  For that alone I’d do it.

But if he gets a career ending injury before the summer 🤷‍♂️.  On the other hand I suppose one think to consider is the deal is done with WBA but what about the deal with the player? Could he reject the deal based on the contract offered? A strong second half to the season then his salary demands may price us out of signing him. The fee may be agreed but is the contract?

I remember a bonfire night game probably under SoD, where the fans were chatting amongst themselves and watching the fireworks?

Crawley I think. We actually won two nil but it sticks in my mind.  Remember sitting in the Atyeo watching the fireworks. Remember losing to Leicester when I think McInnes was in charge and some one about half a dozen rows down just read a book for the whole game! 🤣

  5. Fairly standard terms and conditions you would think.  Man United would look to use the money to improve old Trafford and increase match day revenue.  This in turn increases the turn over which drives up share price. Offering a solid return on the investment being put in.  Could City offer the same growth on any return when you consider how much SL has put in and not seen a return on.  It would be subject to us getting to the Premier League where as Man United just need to sit tight and reap the ever growing TV money year on year.  Low risk with high return.

  6. Maybe it’s a lazy comparison but Raneiri went into Leicester after Pearson and found great success off the back of what Pearson had built.  Pearson had stated in a couple of previous interviews that it would be possibly someone else who would come in and take the club forward.  This is testament to the solid foundation that Pearson created that in both cases it can be built on rather than knocked down and started again.  Also being a Leicester fan it’s been interesting to see the similarities in how both situations have panned out up to now and whilst I would have been happy for Pearson to remain I’m equally happy that Manning has come and hope that history can repeat itself and we go on to find success (not suggesting winning the Prem obviously) and we finish the season with something to play for going into the last few games.

My brother, after going on a session and seeing City score in the 90th minute (I think vs Swansea) used to repeat the mantra “eight pints for a last minute winner” and became convinced that if he got suitably oiled the goal in the last knockings would come.

Either that or he’d be too pissed to care.

That is going above and beyond the call of duty and I salute him! 🤣

  8. So the wife has broken my Bristol City mug. I was obviously devastated and pointed out it was my lucky mug. To which she replied you’ve had it five years and not sure it’s been that lucky. (Ouch!)  Really can’t argue that.  I first started watching city in the Joe Jordan era and a had lucky scarf where I never saw us lose in 20 games.  In an effort to have some lighter non Pearson vs Manning posts.  Let’s hear about some of your lucky items or pre match rituals?

    As Winston Churchill once said:

”Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”

What has this to do with Mehmeti? Well, he seems to be on a journey from when he signed. He had talent and skill but little application. Gradually he’s got better, so perhaps it’s the end of the beginning of his development

  10. For me the team that was on the pitch at 60 minutes should have been the team that started.  Too much rotation at the moment is disrupting our cohesion. In isolation we look really good but in the majority quite poor.  Manning, like any other manager who could have come in is going to need a couple of windows to make his mark but I can’t fathom some of the team selections presently.

  11. I think we will announce the new head coach late tomorrow or early Friday. With the line that Curtis will take the team on the weekend and the new coach will watching from the stands.  They don’t want to appoint to early as they would have to lead the team on the weekend and with the potential hostility best to let it simmer out a little.

I ran some updates over lunch:

    Just to explain the charts:

every field that starts PR is a percentile rank, ie where in the ranking of their peers (Champ Wide and Attacking Midfielders - all 203 of them) do they fit.  The longer / darker the bar the better / more they do.  Near the red line means they are in the middle.

I’ve highlighted in red some key areas where data = eyes!

    Top Right:

    Receives less passes than most

Of the passes received he receives more long balls than most

in terms of numbers he receives long passes 21% of all passes, one of the highest in the division.  Here’s the top 15

    image.png.ae96f9bc7d205394802347dd96aeda9f.png

    Mmmmmm 🤷🏻‍♂️

Looks like Cardiff will be pinging a fair few balls to Yakou Meite tomorrow whether he plays wide or central.  No surprise to see Dykes / Smyth (QPR) and Wilks / Gregory / Paterson / R.James (Wednesday) at the top either.

    Bottom Left:

Doesn’t make make passes compared to his peers

Doesn’t make many successful passes compared to his peers

    Bottom Right:

Makes a lot of duels (aerial and loose ball) indicating the slightly scrappy nature our play.

    My summary:

I think his nature to try and run off the shoulder is in some way forcing his teammates to try high-risk passes.  He would benefit the team by mixing it up more, pulling his RB short / deeper.

Thanks for taking the time to do the analysis. It’s really appreciated and it makes really interesting reading. It seemed the same with Semenyo when he was here and it become a bit predictable. Not to say it can’t work but as you said would like to see them mix it up a bit more.

@spudski definitely lacking in doing the basics well at times, agreed.

As for Ipswich around the hour mark, I started to see Ipswich succumb to a team that runs and runs.  At the 70 minute mark as the subs were starting to be introduced, Luongo and Morsy were making less and less angles.  They still “got out from the back” a few times because they are good footballers, but we started to see more long balls from them, they got deeper, and we started to really get on top.

From a data perspective….from 76 mins to the end of the game, Ipswich managed just 3.6 passes per possession before we won the ball back, or they lost it (kicking it out), fouling us, etc.  The average through the game 9.92.  It showed that

Unfortunately we used up a lot of energy doing so, and lacked that final bit of composure under pressure when it mattered.  But we are a fit team, even if we are getting injuries.  We stick at it.  I think with a better bench to allow others to go full throttle all game we will do better, like we did earlier this season.

To my untrained eye we seemed or felt like we hit less passes blindly into the channels once Sam Bell came off which helped retain possession. You might have the stats to back it up but we seemed to start passing shorter and retained possession more. I was a couple of beers in so probably wrong! 🤣 and to add that’s not a dig and Sam Bell either.

  14. I remember him kicking someone’s boot away in a match after it had fallen off and being a general nuisance whilst playing on the front foot and looking to move the ball forward.  Hope he recovers fully and picks up where he left off.

Who else thought Ephraim was sent off moments before the final whistle? Even Robins TV said this after he was shown a second yellow.

I thought the same but looked back in BBC live chat and think it might have been Tanner that picked up the card?

I have a few Plymouth supporting mates, one very good friend in particular.  Some who live in Plymouth, and some who grew up down there and moved to Bristol many years ago, including the very good friend.  To a man they were amazed at the 7 changes, and collectively feared the worst before the game once the teams were announced.  They also commented on the empty seats, especially in the South Stand.  The more locally based Plymouth fans were reassuring the others in the group that the SS would fill just before kick off as many would still be in the concourse using the bars etc. but alas, it didn't transpire, and I didn't really have much of an explanation as to why that was.

I think they'll be fine moving forward.  As others have said the 7 changes were pretty naive, and in the words of some of the above they thought Steven Schumacher had mistaken the game for a Carabao Cup tie not a "local derby" (I know peoples interpretation of a local derby in this context differs to a greater or lesser degree, their words not mine)

Lots of transport issues last night. Trains not running and the A369 shut possibly impacted quite a few.

I thought even the CEO came out and said we would probably be ok, and so implying it was close.

I may be wrong ( with my memory I type that more than any other statement ) , but if people are saying there was a chance, then that means we were close.

This was when clubs were not aware of what they would be allowed to write off for COVID I believe.  If we had tipped over then many other clubs would have been in a similar situation.  Imagine every team starting on minus 3 points! ?

  18. If you’re shopping on a budget you have to cut your cloth accordingly.  You think more wisely about what you put in your trolley and you make sure you eat it.  Johnson in the transfer market was like the big shop on an empty belly and he never really worried about if what he put in the basket he would use.  Nice to have it in the cupboard in case I fancy it was the way he looked at it.  Most of it went out of date and was rotten and the rest was too fatty and was bad for our health!
