  1. We would cope without whoever we could sell for the most.  Without getting hung up on what we think they are worth let’s say we got 10 million for Alex but only 5 million for either of the other two then 10 million would allow us to invest across more positions than selling a five million player. We lose a player but get a better squad.

I’ve been watching city for over 30 years so not that young. I can’t remember another signing that made me disgusted in the club.

There have been many a thread debating this.  We’ve had some real disasters worse than Danny that’s for sure.

Or perhaps the journo could prepare a differently worded question, or have a secondary more open question ready if he gets the type of response above.

You ask the right question, Nige will talk the hind legs off a donkey.

He’s laid out the ground rules enough times, e.g. don’t ask me about individual transfers, you’ll know when there’s something to announce.  Don’t ask me about my tactics for the upcoming game.

You can either try to work with him, build rapport, even ask him to perhaps not be so closed on certain things, or you can set yourself up for an interview where you glean nothing insightful.  How you then “sell” that back to your readers is your problem, not Nige’s.

You can see the ones who’ve built a good rapport with him, they get away with more than others.  Also be prepared that your killer question might’ve been asked by an earlier person.

I suspect Nige sees the Dave Barton media interview as his way of talking to the fans.

Some of the questions are bordering on ridiculous sometimes and it’s cringe worthy how like you say a question has been asked and another journalist will repeat exactly the same question but word it slightly different.  When he’s asked a sensible question he gives a sensible answer. There was an interview I listened to a while back with Andi Wiemann and the interviewer must have asked him about four or five times the same question and you start to doubt their journalistic professionalism.

That busway campaign bloke is an utter tool. Why the NCE are even giving him airtime is beyond me. His ‘plan’ is total nonsense

I live in Pill and it would be great to hop on a train on match days into Ashton. I’m not sure if it really makes much difference if it is a train or a bus I just can’t see enough people using it to make it a financially viable option. Four of us drive and pay a tenner parking on match days and a couple of quid on fuel where as public transport is 20 pound. It doesn’t pay to catch public transport (unless we are having a few beers! ?) If the council and government are serious about getting cars off the road then whatever the alternative they provide it needs to be convenient and cheaper. Having to wait for nearly an hour for a bus if it turns up at all is not tempting people to using public transport.

  5. I would imagine RG stating that we may accept a points deduction is to underpin the value of our players in the transfer market. It takes away the intent of clubs to make low offers feeling we will accept them due to our situation.  It allows us the room to hold our nerve for higher offers but there is no mistake in we will sell if those high offers are made.

    My tweet to 20Man

Mr Miserable’s tweet….he couldn’t find anything positive to say after that…sums him up.

Some people are at their happiest when they are unhappy. I’ve noticed an improvement in recent weeks and can applaud that and enjoy it but God I reckon if we win the Champions League some would still pick faults!  Didn’t go today as the wife gave birth last night but sounds like I missed a great game.

I’m reading the Alex Ferguson biography called ‘Alex’ at the moment, and apparently he would split his squad into 3 age categories:

    - under 23’s;

    - 23-28; and

    - over 28.

His aim was to have 3 players for each outfield position, and those 3 would be from each age category, the under 23 to keep the older player on his toes, the player in their prime aged 23-28 to be the main man, and then the old head in the over 28 category for experience.

The next important part to ensure longevity of success and keep the squad rolling forward with consistency was to ensure the contracts of players in the 3 age categories, or equally 1 position are not elapsing at the same time, I.e. you don’t want all your 23-28 players ending contracts at the same time, or you don’t want your 3 left back contracts running out at the same time for example.

This relatively simple process ensures that you know exactly where you are in terms of squad experience, what gaps might be coming up, helps to identify what types of players you might need and when you might need them.  If another club snaps up your under 23 left back then you know you want to bring in another under 23 left back, not one whose over 28.

I don’t know what City do or if we follow anything like this process, but it would be quite a good way of measuring where our current squad sits on the ‘Alex Ferguson experience scale’.  Anyone got the time to do this? ?

Not meaning to cause any offence but are you a Man United fan or is the book a good read in general? Looking for something to read so may take a look.

I think firstly you need to think in terms of minutes played rather than just appearances. Young players especially can get appearances that are actually just 20 minutes (or a lot less) at the end of a game, that's not as relevant as a full 90. So look at minutes not apps.

Max minutes in one season of football in the Championship is 46 x 90 = 4,140. 100 games is obviously equivalent to 9,000 minutes.

So for me I'd be looking at a player needing to have at least the equivalent of a full season under his belt. So probably about 5,000 minutes to be called "experienced".

But, we tend to use the term to refer to players who are actually very experienced, those with tens of thousands of minutes played. The word often gets used as a euphemism for age when referring to older players.

Vyner has 8,257 minutes of Championship Football, plus 1,328 in the Scottish Prem. I'd say he's experienced at this point, especially considering that those Championship minutes are across 105 appearances, so lots of full 90s and an impressive average of 78.6 minutes per appearance.

    Great stats ?

  9. Our form in the last six games puts us at 14 in form table and as stated in an earlier post we are looking better since NP came back from Covid.  If we can maintain our current form of picking up a couple of wins a couple of draws with the odd defeat here and there we will be ok.  I’ve seen enough overall to suggest we will stay up and feel that as we continue we will get more momentum. I’m not too fazed if we don’t buy anyone in January as believe we will be ok although if we could trade a couple in then great. If KP, JD and NW all start performing like we all know they are capable that would be like getting three good signings.

I would like us to use it to fool opposition, make it look like a long throw to create space out wide and then go short, pull players out wide and then go long - doing the unexpected is the only way I can see that it has worked for us. And that's been once.

We had one where Weiman was short and unmarked.  The opposition ran away from him leaving him wide open and we still played it long.  We need to be more flexible and mix it up. Read the game and don’t be too rigid in our objectives.
