    Why?

I thought he played ok tonight.  He came in and did a reasonable job in a different position (most, me included thought he’d play RCB3, but he played in the middle).  He got done by Deeney for their second, admittedly.  He tried to pass the ball out at the back, not always successfully, but it was a bit better than we’ve seen of late…for the first hour.

Fine if you have a different view.

I thought he put up no fight for the first, allowing Deeney to easily play the ball out to the eventual goalscorer. The third he was nowhere near the goalscorer, he was beaten on a number of crosses, two of which should have been put away.

If he wasn't an academy player he'd be regarded the same as Taylor Moore. If we continue to play imo at best L1 players we'll find ourselves there. He costs you goals at this level, and it's often in the build up.

SL was in charge when Cotts became manager so must have appointed him. It wasn't all bad under LJ, he actually did as well as anyone at this club in the 2nd tier if you think about it, at least we were never in danger of relegation which hasn't been the case with virtually every other manager we've had (apart from his dad).

Miss his first full season? Lucky you!

Right so trying to get pace on the pitch was a bad idea? Agreed that lumping the ball at him was not going to work, but getting him running into the corners as an outlet surely makes sense, especially against tired defenders even if only to stretch the pitch out a bit, I’d argue that this was the best option with what was on the bench, just a poorly executed.

We knocked it into the corners for him twice and he was flat footed and staring the ball passing him.

Again, not on him. It's on the manager. He shouldn't be asked to the job he was asked to at such an important time.

  4. Sorry, should state I'm not having a pop at COD for this. It wasn't his mental idea to make this tactical blunder.

Odowda was not at fault for the last few mminutes of madness. I agree i think he should be moved on but to blame him for the defeat is a little harsh.

Not only harsh, it’s utterly ridiculous.

    See above.

  5. No. Course not FFS.

A knackered Wells was so much more useful as a focal point than COD. Could see the equaliser coming a mile off once that happened. Ball just kept coming back.

EDIT - because this is going over some heads. I don't believe COD made the tactical decision, so I don't blame him for the stupidity.

Are you still 100% sure? I think he's reaping the benefit of managing a club on merit and not being tainted with accusations of nepotism.

No doubt he's relishing his possible  return to the gate next season .

Very much so. It's not like he's never had a good run before when he's had injuries. I would expect him to lose in the play offs (it is Sunderland after all), lose some players, sign some players, struggle to know what he wants to do and history repeats itself.

Ultimately I'm not fussed either way, that's just my prediction, he's gone thankfully. One thing I know is that looking at how our players can barely execute the most basic of football skills during a match day these days (and it's been getting progressively worse over the last few years to this point) I am delighted we will never have him, Holden and Macca "coaching" anyone at this football club again.

Sunderland can go up or stay down, we should feel lucky he's not our problem anymore.

if his name was John Leeson, people would be talking about him as one of the better city managers, alot lot of hate lee gets is purely due to him being lee johnson from people who never liked him as a player

He'd probably need a whole new personality too. I liked him as a player, thought he received a massive amount of necessary stick.

As a manager though, Jesus... I'm still 100% sure we will be the only Championship club e ever manages and that was down to nepotism, again.

If he fails to take Sunderland up all his guff in the world won't be able to answer in any future interview "How have you managed for 8 years and never earned a promotion?".

At some stage his CV will be louder than his PowerPoint and David Brent squeaks.
