  1. I felt some of the initial critical comments about our kits were over the top, but I generally don't care as I wouldn't buy one anyway. Some other clubs fans made positive comments about the third shirt on another forum I frequent - unfortunately they aren't the target market for Bristol City and they don't really care about the badge. Going retro has been in vogue for quite a while now with football kits, but even outside of that with the young ones. Maybe it's running it's course now. Got to say that jacket is definitely taking the piss! the bucket hats too are really off. Not for me anyway, but i can see the idea that was somehow executed poorly. The random Bristol City on the back makes it look worse. Seems it not just us that are confused about our identity as Aston Villa are going ahead with two crests this season much to their fans bemusement. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.birminghammail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/aston-villa-explain-club-crest-27172830.amp The splat Robin kind of worked on the back of the Grey Hummel t-shirt, but it's bizarre they would push it so heavily with little communication and so soon after our other badge change. They are obviously trying to work out how to approach it, or just plan to ignore it and quietly drop it. It's clear Hummel were very good at getting the base ideas into clear marketable clothing. Those jackets a couple of years back were really nice for example. I don't think it matters who the brand are as long as they do a decent job and it's obvious that this year is all over the place. It all feels a little bit like the badge change around 2005 tbh.
  2. ******* hell. I've heard people on here talk about the Rovers reporter, but had never read one of his articles. Talk about over the top. Barton took them down with a whimper, and then managed to get them up with an amazing 1/2 season, which he's never replicated, and was driven by a wonderkid. The way that reads is like some articles on Guardiola and the recruitment strategy at Man City, or some of the articles that look in depth at Brentford etc. Ashton would have loved him to be our reporter during his time.
  3. I was a very recent convert to it as I was looking for something lower strength. It's a lager so if you like Estrella I reckon you'll like it. I generally like most "pilsners" but there's quite a few that masquerade as that and aren't. I am far from a snob though just like roughly 5 percent Lager/Beer from Eastern Europe apparently. I used to drink Cider, but it just didn't agree with me.
  4. Tyskie and Budvar usually. Don't mind a Guinness either.
  5. Then he'll play 2 seasons there, win the euros with France and move to Chelsea for £20m as was always planned.
  6. This is the classy gear we need. JL etc need to pull their finger out. https://store.stokecityfc.com/hawaiian-range
  7. I think the Anglo Italian cup was stopped due to the carnage between fans in some of the other ties. https://thesefootballtimes.co/2019/10/25/remembering-the-violent-but-fascinating-anglo-italian-cup/ Can't remember if that's the article I read a few weeks ago when I was looking it up for some reason. Plenty of City in Southmead as far as I know too. 8. Peter Beadle getting a name drop then.
  9. Just giving page that is ran by the charity. https://www.justgiving.com/theunderfallyardtrust I got it from their Instagram so it is legitimate.
  10. Was just about to post this. Really sad as that part of the harbour is great to walk around on a nice day.
  11. Patino is a recent example. He could stay at Arsenal and go on another 2-3 loans, and before he knows it he is 23/24 not quite making the grade and settling into a side. The club and the player lose out. So he's asking for a move which could go either way, but likely gives him a better chance of playing in a settled side. As our academy is better we need to get used to players that look decent moving on, and should see it as a positive in terms of future money generation and also attracting young players to us. I don't really believe that we need to always think of it terms of a mistake when a player moves on and does well as it may still have been the right decision at that time. I think clubs, and especially players are realising that the approach of trying to stock players and loan them out constantly isn't the best thing for anyone involved.
  12. Quite like Ipswich and glad to see you hopefully coming back up even with Ashton in charge. Ultimately you're a massively underachieving team that have had a lot of money to spend the last two years so really he's done what would be expected I guess? I can understand why you're happy after so many years of Evans and his cost cutting. It's a bit like if City somehow found ourselves in League Two. We'd be delighted if we came back up, but it would be the least that's expected and the proper work to be judged on will come later and that's where Ashton came unstuck with City. Not to mention that when times are not going well he hides and when he does speak it massively winds people up the wrong way. Maybe he's learnt from his time at City.
  13. That's an awful story but thanks for sharing. I guess it's better to at least be honest with the young person that your unlikely to take them on, but if they want to play they would like them to stay and they will support them any other ways they can. At least they can choose. When you step back it's all a bit ****** up really. Kids from a young age ultimately treated like commodities by adults in their lives and very little of their own agency. All the transfer stories of really young kids around 14 years old being picked up by clubs and agents fighting over them. It must be hard for the child whose being tipped for greatness and no wonder so many don't ever quite reach those heights. I definitely agree with what people say about parents and needing to keep them grounded too. So many parents will see the money signs and also the sheer pride of seeing their kid make it - living their dreams through their children. It's a lot for a child to process amongst all the other things that teenagers go through. Hell I've seen parents destroy their kids by forcing them into careers and university courses that they don't really want to do so it's not strictly limited to football. It's hard when they are breaking through too - I remember I hadn't been to football for years so I was a bit desensitised and I saw this 40 year old bloke going absolutely ballistic at Jonathan Leko who was on loan and 18 at the time. Obviously I just saw an 18 year old kid out of his home city getting bare abuse for nothing other than maybe not being quite ready yet. Obviously it's all part of it, but we all forget the human elemen of this sometimes. Im glad and hopeful the support is better now and it's also positive there is a lot more support for people when they leave the game.
  14. Steven Caulker did one that came out this week. Not listened to it yet though.
  15. Asher is a decent person from my interactions with her. Are you against Museums in general? Something that really adds to a City and attracts people? Strange take really.
  16. We really don't though? I love history - I've just finished Dan Jones Power and Thrones book which was written in 2021 and covers the Middle Ages. Are we suggesting he shouldn't have written it as it's all probably been written before? Every week I get emails with the latest history books advertised. It's a massive industry and research is constant.
  17. This is the only site that I've seen this story posted on so far. Not seen it anywhere on the more woke places I frequent and the websites that have much younger demographics than here. Can't even see it on the other football forums and Reddit though haven't dug that deeply and it's still early. Nothing been posted on any of the Instant Messaging groups I am in. My workplace is quite young and pretty liberal. I reckon they'll be interested in the history behind the story, but not have a massive view on the football badges. No one's come in raging, guardian app under the arm, suggesting we burn down Old Trafford. (Unfortunately) So whose being sucked in?
  18. Very much a voice of my youth. Grew up listening to his show on the way to the game and back. Will try to listen to the last broadcast.
  19. I really thought Simon Clist would go on to play at Championship level, or top end of League One. (Division 1 and 2 as it was then.) I also thought Ryan Harley would play at a higher level than he did, but he had a decent career on the whole. Just seen he's Assistant Manager at Notts County. I really thought Trundle would kick on with us. He was class at times though. Just not enough pace for this level. Outside of City: Thought Shevchenko would transition to Chelsea. They killed a few strikers during that period. I thought Rovers would eventually catch us up, get a new stadium, and have attendances over 10k regularly. Not sure what I was thinking. Loads of players hyped up by me because of FM and watching South American football on C4 in the early hours when I was kid. D'allesandro, Freddy Gurin and Diego particularly spring to mind.
  20. He's been doing well up until then by all accounts.
  21. Yeah no doubt. Think Wells has 17 in 24 goals which is great. Probably a bit like when we got a ringer in 5 a side that used to play for Rovers Youth. We were shit, but he was utter class and he'd just bang them in for fun all game. Made me appreciate how good you have to be to even get a look in at that level.
  22. Went down a bit of a rabbit hole there looking at the Bermuda National Team. Kyle Lightbourne is there manager which is a blast from the past. Was pretty decent for Walsall if I remember correctly. Wells is the third all time top scorer for them with 17. Goater is number one with 20.
  23. Yeah Marseille would be good to visit. I've always wanted to go to Braga as that's a pretty unique ground. Inverness Cally because of where it is situated.
  24. I'll have a look this weekend pretty sure I know where it is. Send me a message tomorrow if I haven't messaged you already to remind you.
  25. Just read issue 2 - great. Really enjoyed the interview with Foreign Concept. Such a shame Swu.FM shut down and with it the critical podcast stopped. If there aren't any copies of OSIB #1 left I'm happy for someone to take mine for free as I'm unlikely get around to reading it again. Maybe you can make a donation to OSIB. (I'll have to find it though as I've moved things around recently and not sure where I put it.)
