  1. Is there any club which experiences these cock-ups as often as we do?
  2. Oh Zak that is embarrassing.......genuinely feel sorry for the poor kid
  3. Weimann scored a nice one from outside the box at AG in the last couple of seasons. Left footed strike - top corner. Forget who it was against.
  4. In fairness, Bell has been just as poor recently. 2 open goals missed in 2 weeks now. We don't have any particularly enticing options out wide at this moment in time.
  5. He probably offered more threat than anyone else in the first 70 minutes. Got in behind his man a few times in the first half, put a couple of decent balls into the box, and nearly won us a penalty early in the 2nd half. As I say, the bar was VERY low, but it's more than can be said for most of our players yesterday. (Knight did show some threat in the last 20 minutes, in fairness). IMO we have a general issue with the quality of our wingers, it's not just Mehmeti.
  6. Very harsh IMO. He, like many others, wasn't at his best, but Mehmeti looked like the only player in a red shirt who might have made something happen for the first 70 mins or so. Granted, the bar was set very low. In general, we have an issue with quality out wide. None of our options (bar maybe Sykes) are particularly inspiring. Smyth and Willock looked much more dangerous than Sykes, Mehmeti, Bell, and Cornick have this season IMO.
  7. Another testament to the good work Pearson did with our younger players. Bell looked out of his depth when he first came into the team, but Pearson was able to massively improve him through summer to the point where he now doesn't look out of place in our matchday squad. Hopefully Mehmeti and Bell can both continue to develop well under Manning.
  8. Just seen that the red card has been overturned. Why? I have absolutely no f****** idea. Seemed blatant to me
  9. What's your point? League 1 managers all know nothing about football and all "bullshit" their way into jobs? Any manager who has been fired from a job is automatically a bad manager and we should assume they don't know what they're talking about?
  10. I think you're being unfair on Manning. Firstly, he's not Lee Johnson. Just because he's a young L1 manager appointed by the Lansdowns, it doesn't automatically make him LJ. Secondly, why do some fans have such a disliking for managers using technical language? Have you considered that it might not be "bullshit", and he might just happen to know quite a bit about coaching football? Besides, who are we to tell a professional football manager that they talk "bullshit"?
  11. I don't think there's much to see here. He's just a young player returning from injury, who happened to be up against a particularly strong and quick CB at the weekend.
  12. Yepp, plus a nice long international break in which we might get some players back to full fitness.
  13. Not really, for a few reasons: 1) I, like many others, don't believe that the Lansdowns fired Pearson for purely footballing reasons. This wasn't just about league position and success, it was about Pearson "rocking the boat". Hence, if the new manager is able to achieve more success with the current squad, then it could be argued that this is just a fortunate by-product of the true reason for Pearson's sacking. 2) I'm expecting the new manager to be given more money than Pearson was in the summer. The Lansdowns can't really say "We told you so" re a new manager if the reason for our improved success is £10m of the Alex Scott money magically becoming available. FWIW, I think Pearson's funds were deliberately limited in the summer with a view from the hierarchy that it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if he were to struggle a bit at times this season. 3) The Landsdowns have been appointing managers for decades and have got it wrong almost every single time. Even if this truly is a purely footballing decision and points (1) and (2) are invalid, then it would still have taken them so many attempts to bring the right manager in. It would simply feel as though it was luck more than judgement - a case of monkeys & typewriters.
  14. Unfortunately, I think this is pretty spot on. It's no coincidence that Pearson's sacking came at the exact moment of our lowest ebb. I have no doubt that the narrative from those who dislike Pearson will be "Pearson had Bristol City in 15th. In spite of the woeful Pearson, new manager X has managed to drag Bristol City up to a 12th placed finished - higher than Nige managed in 3 seasons! Clearly City should have sacked Pearson much sooner." (Jon Lansdown, Ryan Dilks, Mark Carter - we're looking at you)
  15. Agree, the fundamental issue was a dodgy transfer policy. I think we were slightly unsure what we wanted from Szmodics. Was he "one for the future"? If so, a 24 year old from League 2 doesn't seem like a player with room for significant development. Was he "one to hit the ground running"? If so, you're asking a lot for a player to step up 2 divisions and immediately have an impact. As you say, the Palmer signing then complicated things further. Very much seemed like a signing made without any clear plan or thought process.
  16. We signed him at a time when we were stockpiling players, so not a surprise he didn't get that many minutes. In fairness to LJ, Szmodics did seem to struggle in the brief appearances he had for us. I recall coming away from games thinking "oh....that's why Szmodics isn't getting much game time". Easy to say we should have persisted with Szmodics now we have the benefit of hindsight, but at the time he left the club for League 1 Peterborough, it didn't seem an unreasonable decision to sell him.
  17. As others have said, I'm amazed that this is even being discussed and that Wednesday fans genuinely feel aggrieved. Pretty blatant red as far as I'm concerned. Bannan trips Knight (deliberately, by the look of it) from behind as he is entering the box 1 vs 1 with the goalkeeper (okay, there's also a defender near the goal who looks unlikely to influence play much). In doing so, Bannan undoubtedly denies a clear goalscoring opportunity. What more is there to talk about?
  18. This is surely a wind up. Absolutely nothing wrong with you not being convinced that Pearson was the man to get us into the top 6, but some of these statements are just ridiculous.
  19. In fairness, I think it does suit many of our forwards. Conway is good through the centre of a 3, as is Wells. Sykes, Mehmeti, and Bell are fine out wide. In fact, I'd argue that wide in a front 3 is the only position Bell can play. Whilst Conway has been injured (and other injuries have moved Sykes to RB), I think it's a general lack of quality in the front 3 that's been the bigger issue.
  20. Think people are being a little harsh on Weimann. He's got into some good positions but has been fouled almost every time when he's done so.
  21. Sorry, I must've missed that. What was claimed re Rennie leaving?
  22. Agree with @ExiledAjax - On paper we should be a pretty attractive proposition to a new manager. It would be interesting to know how potential managers view the club's hierarchy though. Historically, I get the impression that neutrals have seen the Lansdowns as generous owners who are patient with managers. I wonder if this is still the case, or whether recent events make prospective managers somewhat hesitant about taking up a role. Will managers see us as a bit of a poisoned chalice? Will agents warn managers that working for the Lansdowns can be rather difficult?
  23. This is one of my concerns/frustrations. We win a few games against easier opposition (as we have coming up) and get a few players back from injury. We climb the table slightly in doing so. Suddenly it's - "In fairness, we've looked better since Manager X has come in". "Well, we were 15th when Pearson was fired, and now we're 12th, so maybe the board made the right decision". I can already see Ryan Dilks saying "I told you so" re Nige because we manage to pick up 6 points against Sheffield Wednesday and QPR.
