My patience is starting to wear thin with all these continued injuries. But more so that once again i'm going to be paying to watch us play with the 1 recognised CB. All that money we got for Scott and still we find ourselves possibly playing with 1 cb.

The reason why we never progress treading water trying to survive on a shoestring .

RIP Gordon, can still see him falling backwards at Tottenham and giving away a penalty, was very young but didn't think it was then or now....

Dad drove us up with an uncle of mine and all the way up they talked about "G" strength for Spurs (Greaves and Gilzean). I got fed up with this and said "so have we!!..... Gordon Parr and Gordon Low!"

Always makes me laugh looking back...

Remember the same went with grandad and uncle cant remember whether it was Gordon or jack conner who palmed the, ball down in our penalty area to give away a spot kick ?.

Great result tonight. Conways first goal was top class.

    First 75 mins shocking.

I thought TGH looked poor overall tonight. Against a poor side he did not show any type of upgrade on Tanner.

OK maybe not a RB but thought he lost the ball and his 1 on 1 contest to many times.

Also his chasing back looked slow and to much effort at times.

For me £1m is way to much and we should be looking else where.

Vyner would do a better job for me than either RB but has been so good in the middle.

Roberts been on a few times now and again positioning looked questionable and does not really offer going forward as I thought he would. Not someone who can put pressure on Pring.

Shame as I thought we had some options at full back but looks like it’s Pring and Tanner (unless Vyner moves across) with little pressure on each of them for a starting role.

Hopefully we won’t burn them out.

Mc crorrie bought for fullback but hes gonna be out for a while .

Most well drilled team we have had for a while IMO . Knight settling in well in midfield and we have cover in key positions we didn’t have last year (king playing centre back for example)

Just don’t look good enough in the final third for me. That will be the difference.

Good start to season for me 👍

True midfield also not feeding the strikers enough passing tonight was abysmal.

The cost of running Bristol City Football Club Ltd and Ashton Gate Ltd has lots of costs besides wages.

Last accounts…the total costs (in Bristol City Holdings) was £57.664m

    Income was £30.002m

We raised £1.261 in transfer profit (player sales) but incurred further costs (interest etc) of £2.127m.

In summary our losses were £28.528m!!!

The football wage bill (players, staff, support staff etc) was £23.808m (201 staff).  Ok, players will make up a decent chunk of that.

Ashton Gate wage bill was £6.683m (499 staff).

There are however £15.596m of other costs, that aren’t really broken down.

    ++++++++

And those other costs are too high imho.  I think “football” has done fantastically well to cut costs and retain a place in the Championship over the past two seasons.  I wish the rest of the club could be as efficient.

But you can’t keep cutting football costs / not reinvesting transfer monies without having a detrimental effect on the team on a Saturday.

I think we are at a bit of a knife edge.  If SL isn’t gonna let us invest in the playing squad because he doesn’t want to cover the losses, we are in danger of stagnation after this season.

That’s why I don’t get the timing.  It feels like completely the wrong time to decide this strategy.

Yes unless hes had an acceptable offer its all gone quiet from his part.

Those websites are often out of date, best guess, etc, etc.

FWIW James might well’ve been on that at Leicester when his contract came to an end, he was in effect a PL player (albeit his final season spent on loan), but he won’t be on that here at City.  They’ve basically not got any up to date wage data so are sticking with what they thought he might be on at Leicester.

Similar with Weimann, he might well’ve been on £20k+ bearing in mind he signed his contract in the boom time period.  But he’s since signed a new deal on allegedly half of what he was on.

Yes fair enough Dave but why are we losing so much money each week it does take some believing though.

I like to look at these things from the post of view of improving your weakest area.
Who do I think is currently our weakest ‘regular’ starter? Tanner.

If Tanner was upgraded then the next weakest area for me would be Attacking Midfielder. So that means bringing in an AM which would mean only 2 of Knight, James, Williams, Naismith would be able to start in CM.

Next on my list would be a keeper.

Then it would be both wings.

One thing I would look ahead to, if we’re not gonna threaten the top 6 this season, if we are to go for it next season we have James, Williams, King & Weimann out of contract. So the midfield will definitely need major recruitment within the Jan 24 or Summer 24 windows.

If its true what i have read in google suggesting james on 27.500 a week wells an weinman slightly less i would let them go at end of contracts  and sign another couple of jason knights

Honestly doing that we'll see McCrorie this season but hope I'm wrong.

Yes it could, time will tell in midfield.

Sykes and Bell are contributing which is good, quite intrigued medium term by Sykes-Conway-Bell.

Yes glad to see tommy back might be a bit more liveliar upfront now.

If I was to pick one.

I like our midfield but honestly still think we miss that craft post Scott. Think Leicester away, Scott would have run with the ball a bit, perhaps won some free kicks in dangerous areas or to give us a breather.

A fit Vyner and Atkinson would enable Naismith to move into midfield which would help to provide some. Perhaps Gardner-Hickman in the fullness of time may fill some of that void.

If I was to look across the squad as a whole, depth. By which I mean quality competition to push O'Leary, a 4th bona fide CB and that aforementioned bit of craft.

I would have said striker but Conway, Wells, Weimann and even Cornick competing centrally is fine.

Gardner Hickman and Naysmith could answer the midfield problem mccrorrie will cover full back a pacey attacker and goalscorer in the whittaker mould .
