That is not an average Leeds team, anyone that finishes above them will be promoted this season, simple as that. Apart from that “silly” statement you’re right about the form and being torn apart.

It’s an average Leeds team. They were made to look world class by a dreadful City team set up by a clueless coach. If they were in the prem I’d wager they’d be in the bottom two. Look at how useless they were in front of goal given the amount of chances created. I wouldn’t wait any longer I’d pull the trigger on Manning tonight and give Andy King a go until the end of the season. Or would that just be ‘silly’?!

Trying to actually pin down who the hell is in charge is something of a puzzle. According to the main site, Gavin Marshall is the Chairman but he's not listed as such on the companies house website. He does though have 9 different dirctorship roles across all of the Bristol Sports groups. There isn't one person who is not at least doubled up in various other jobs. The main site also shows Kevin Hamblin as a director however, he resigned according to companies house, in December last year.

Its a bloody mess and a slap in the face to the players and those fans who have turned out and got behind the ladies this season.

There is no puzzle. Steve Lansdown is in charge and responsible for City, the Bears & the ladies. The others are just bit part players. He alone sets the budgets and is responsible for this shit show.

  3. I’ve said for a long time he’s not good enough at this level although to be fair to him he has improved this season. He has technical flaws in his game still which is costing us a lot of points and physically still looks like a teenager to me.

I just don't get it. It was clear the last time we went down that the Womens game was getting bigger and bigger and yet our ownership did next to nothing to prevent us dropping out of the top flight and now, with great support and the WSL very much a place where decent investment brings bigger rewards, we're slipping out of it again.

The Womens Championship gets stronger each season which makes it more difficult to get back up again.

Why do the Landsdowns bother if they're not going to take it seriously? They binned the first City Womens team in 2007 and then, when it soon became apparent that was a mistake as the ladies game rapidly grew, they bought some one elses team. Then, after going to all that effort to bring it back into the City fold they preside over a season by season decline in the WSL and then relegation. When we get back into the WSL, they standby and watch the team struggle all over again. Bizarre.

I’ve said for a while now the Bristol Sport clubs are all in a managed decline. How SL would love the rugby and women’s football to go amateur again!!

Which comes back to the short-sightedness of not investing in this transfer window to maintain their WSL status. Really poor from those higher up not to emphasise recruitment of some top talent, even just in the short term to ensure survival. Principles of recruiting young local players are all well and good, as there is a huge area for the club to tap into for both support (hence the 4th largest crowds in the league) and talent, but experience and top international level players are still needed to survive at this level. That’s what other promoted clubs have had to do but of course we are Bristol City so we do things differently - and then seem baffled as to why it hasn’t worked!

Couldn’t agree with you more. The exact same thing happened last time the girls went down. A golden opportunity thrown away yet again! As with the rest of Bristol Sport we know where the blame lies.

What makes me laugh is that no one was telling the Lansdowns to eff off after we drew at West Ham, or won at Watford to make three wins in a row. We lose at Preston and the toys come out. It’s pathetic and childish. And so is the abuse.
I’d have far more respect for our keyboard-warrior supporters if they called for the Lansdowns to go after every win.
Do you think @Davefevs (our most thoughtful and constructive poster) resorts to this sort of abuse? But fill your boots supporting abuse if that’s what makes you happy.

Always thought the Lansdowns have had a very easy ride tbh. If they were the owners of Man Utd with the same track record there would be mobs of ‘fans’ balaclava clad lighting flares trying to intimidate SL outside his Guernsey home. The extent of the grief they actually get is a few fans on the forum telling them to do one!!

I’d imagine we willl be saying the same thing this time next season and the season after that and the season after that.

The sooner the Lansdowns **** off the better.

It was gone the minute they decided not to give the previous manager a penny of the Scott money, imposed a restricted wage ceiling and invented something called a "nest egg".

You can't then switch course mid season and expect a new coach, with a fundamentally different approach, to deliver instant improvements.

So the change of coach should have happened last summer - they didn't have the bollox - or next summer.

A brilliant January transfer window might yet save our season but it's unlikely.

I reckon our Jan window is done. Whatever happened to Tinnion claiming we were always looking 3 windows ahead or some such bollox?! Remember JL said we have a top 6 squad and the wages were maxed out according to Nige. So why all of a sudden are we expecting new players to come in? We have Murphy and our ‘new’ striker will probably be the return on loan of Palmer-Houldon. Watch this space…..

I think “bounce” is putting it a bit strongly. All the bounce of a punctured beach ball!

And the atmosphere in the ground is terrible because for many fans their heart isn’t in it at the moment. Both the players and supporters seem to be going through the motions, which often happens after a major shock.

We have a coach who has achieved nothing tangible and has never coached at this level before. Clearly he has quite fixed ways about how he wants the team to play (the “Pep way” -but hardly surprising as he had time at one of their feeder clubs) but he had a paper thin squad, the quality of which is debatable and certainly not amongst the 6 best in this division, whatever the owners might say.

So this is the biggest challenge he has ever faced, and a large proportion of the fans never really wanted him anyway. It has all the echoes of a previous appointment that went sour and from which the club took a number of years to recover under our previous manager. Until of course the owners decided to rinse and repeat and here we are!

Manning for me is like Dean Holden 2.0. Nothing against the guy but he has no pedigree at this level and looks like a glorified P.E teacher to me. Unfortunately I think the job is way too big for him and this is the start of the slide downwards. Cue the hunt for a new manager next year:- ‘’we need an experienced manager to help get us out of relegation trouble’’. Sound familiar?!

    Came from Yeovil.

Anyone remember Steve Johnson? Terry Cooper paid about £30k for him I think which was a lot for us back in the 80’s. My one memory of him was ballooning the ball over the bar when he was put through at Eastville. We lost 1-0 to a Holloway goal and can’t remember him playing for us again?!

Firmly in the Southgate out camp!

Continuously selecting players that are out of form or not playing at all.

Rashford should be nowhere near the team, albeit on the bench, his performances have been awful. Phillips doesn’t get gametime, yet continuously gets picked for the squad and brought on.

Southgate uses the England games as an opportunity to give Phillips a run out, as he did with Maguire (albeit his club performances have improved of late). It should be an honour and an achievement to represent England, it shouldn’t be used to give players minutes.

Whilst Maguire’s performances have improved, I can’t help but get frustrated at how slow he is on the ball.

Sterling should be in this squad and would be there on merit. As would Ward-Prowse. Ben White would be more suited to this team than our current centre backs (though I don’t know the reasons for his departure from the World Cup).

All in all, I used to think highly of Southgate when he picked players on merit and brought a real togetherness to the squad. I genuinely felt he was a few in game decisions away from success.

Now we’re seeing him pick his favourites whilst ignoring merit. He keeps bringing on the same under performing players that continue to let us down more often than not.

We have the strongest squad we’ve had in my lifetime and we’re struggling to beat Malta and failing to beat North Macedonia.

We will not win the Euros under Southgate!

For some reason the media and ex-players seem to love Southgate. The guy was a failure at Middlesbrough seeing them relegated in his final season there. He only got the job because he was already in the England set-up and the FA had to replace Big Sam quickly to avoid further embarrassment. I think he is very negative and has zero tactical nous. We have lost/exited the last 3 tournaments due to him not knowing how to change personnel and/or tactics to win a big game. He looks absolutely clueless but hey ho he’s good with the media and I heard the other day that the FA may be considering a longer contract. Tbh I think big Nige would do a better job with the talent available and I’m being serious!!

  11. Big Nige was obviously sacked for non-footballing reasons, but I also think there’s something else at play here. I have listened with interest to SL’s comments over recent times and I think he believes that since investing in the HPC he has given the head coach/manager all the tools they need for success whilst also subsequently reducing the need for recruitment of players. This was further reflected by NP stating that we couldn’t afford to buy a striker and that we would ‘’grow our own’’. Was that a coincidence, or something he had been told to do? I believe that the same applies for the Bears and the Ladies who have been encouraged to embrace the good team spirit mentality and excellent training facilities to achieve success.

Worked it out ages ago. They didn’t want to give money to a manager who took Leicester up and who built the future Premier League champions (5000-1) against.

Smell the coffee? It’s about egos. You can’t instruct someone who has been there and done it to do something completely ‘Your way’ when your track record of success is poor.

    It’s not rocket science.

Perfectly put. SL obviously can’t work with people with strong characters who tell him how it is. He likes to surround himself with puppets and sycophants. His son is just his mouthpiece relaying his message (poorly) to the media and fans. I believe they have made a big mistake by detailing the reasons behind NP’s sacking. This should now be used as a yardstick to measure LM’s performance against. Should he fail to live up to their expectations he will have to be shown the door a la NP. All JL had to say was there was a disagreement between the two parties on how they viewed the way forward leading to a mutual parting of the ways.

Arsene Wenger played for Mutzig, Mulhouse and ASPV Strasbourg

Didn't seem to harm him much that he didn't have a stellar playing career did it?

What about Mourinho who played for giants such as Sesimbra and Comercio e Industria?

I'm not suggesting Manning will be on the level of either of those, but the playing career of someone is frankly irrelevant to how good they might be as a coach or a manager.

To be fair those are 2 extreme examples but it’s certainly the case that some great players have been crap managers and vice versa.
it just worries me that this guy also has a very unimpressive coaching/managerial career thus far. His success effectively equates to a couple of good months at Oxford.

Just go on his Wikipedia page and see his playing career. Easier than asking us!

My sincere apologies for having the audacity to ask you guys a question. I should of course referred to that well know reliable info site before bothering anyone. Anyway just checked as per your suggestion and found out what an impressive playing CV he has. Amongst others he has played for the following:- Long Melford, Leiston, Selfoss and Wroxham. We are truly blessed….

  15. LM said on the local news that he’s been coaching for 18 years, so effectively since he was 20. Did he never play professional football? Got to be honest I’ve never heard of him. It sounds like we have appointed him off of the back of a couple of good months at Oxford. I’m interested to know what the Lansdowns do next if this doesn’t work out. I think we will go down the foreign route followed by a Nigel Pearson type to get us out of trouble.

Looking forward to Jon Lansdown being appointed. His previous success as an armchair fan makes him ideally suitable. He has a deep understanding of players conditioning and wont allow them time off on international breaks. He will combine his role as chairman with head coach making him the ultimate yes man. With a top ten budget and a good enough squad anything less than the playoffs will be deemed a failure.

I look forward to automatic promotion under the expert stewardship of JL. Bloody Nigel Pearson holding us back all those years.

Someone is on a wind up surely?

Not sure anymore mate - I love my club but I’ve never known such a dumb, low information, apathetic bunch than our fellow City fans. It always used to wind me up when they said Geordies & Scousers know their football like it was some sort of cliche but my God they are right. Can’t believe after the last few weeks events certain fans believe that a new manager will make the slightest bit of difference.

Yes agreed. & hopefully if we do see improvement then you'll give them credit for making a good call & hope to see further progress next season, when he has had a pre-season & summer transfer window to implement some of his own ideas.

Bar BS3 I truly love your optimism and some would say naivety. Given the restrictions he was under NP could do no better and I think worked wonders doing what he did. You assume the new manager will be given money in the transfer window and subsequently not quite sure what he will be able to achieve in the pre-season. Cut to the chase pal we all love the club it means a hell of a lot to us but this bollox is not doing us any good. I fully expect us to bring in some failed journey man manager or lower league non-entity next week and we will be in a relegation battle. It would be so much better if you acknowledged the shit show going on down the gate and accepted that nothing will change until the Lansdowns move on.
