  1. I decided to wait till overnight before replying, as everyone is guilty of saying things whilst being frustrated.

Result yesterday was disappointing with so many poor performances across the board, but I was expecting a hard game against a team with direct yet unique style suited to their ground/weather conditions. We can’t expect young players to play well every game and it’s part of their learning at this level.

I do think 9 games conceding at least 2 goals is concerning and needs addressing, I’m sure Pearson will eventually want to go 433/4312 so let’s start now and give the players chance to learn new formation ahead of next year.

                          Bents/O’Leary

    Vyner       Kalas.          Klose.    JD/Pring

              Scott.     Williams.     HNM

                              Weimann

                    Martin.         Semenyo

One final note and I think the most important of all, is that we all knew this would be a difficult year for the club, full of ups but probably more downs, whilst blooding youngsters into the team and staying in the division which I believe we will achieve. The majority on here can see the performances have improved over the last month or so (there had been glimpses before too in odd games) and that’s important going forward as it will give players confidence to look forward to next year, hopefully stay (like HNM).

Sometimes we are own believers in thinking we should be doing better in this league or higher up, but we have to be realistic in knowing there are bigger clubs with more resources than us, and we are one of 10-16 clubs who could be looking up or down, it just takes one run of results either way. Don’t let one bad result/performance doubt what I believe will still be a season achieving our basic goals, and probably a little more……

  2. Struggling to keep likes to minimum on this thread, and thankfully lots of sensible posts.

All professionals make mistakes, and hopefully he will learn from this one. But to berate a player showing that much fight and willingness to keep going that late in the game, and probably being one of the best players this year is utterly ridiculous.

The result is so frustrating, but coming away from Preston with a point and seeing the way the team has been playing the last month or so has me very proud of this team right now. So many positives and the team still has plenty to improve on.

  3. Had we been in more trouble with league position or playing form I’d have Bentley everyday. However Max is a decent GK and needs more games to improve and build confidence.

So whilst we seem safe this year, with nothing to play for, and with Bentley one of the few players who should command a decent fee (whilst being one of the higher earners I presume) - is now the time to sell and give Max the rest of this season to prove himself?

Sorry that’s what I was trying to get at (badly). If we were worried about COD leaving we would have enacted it. But I guess form does come into it. If he was tearing up the league then we may have pinged on the extra year already

There’s a vast difference between COD and Bakkinson’s wage thou so it’s a bigger “risk” for Callum to exercise year option if Nigel wants to use his wages elsewhere

Didn’t we recently take up the one year option on Bakinsons contract? Says a lot that the club are looking at tying down the players they want by enacting these clauses and COD isn’t in that conversation. Sounds like the club simply don’t think he is worth what we are paying him.

I would say Bakkinson contract offer was taken up more so that he didn’t leave for free and we were “protecting the asset” as Pearson has said in the past. He hasn’t exactly featured much since others have come back from injury so don’t think it’s about his form

  6. I think some of the critism on here for Callum is both warranted and harsh. In terms of ability when he’s playing well he’s deffo worth a new contract especially as no1 else like him at club, and every player has good/bad games so to say he’s inconsistent could be said about anyone. It’s unfair to talk about scoring stats too when he’s been asked to play numerous positions whilst at the club and never had a prolonged spell in the team (arbeit because of form or injuries). But he is probably one of our biggest earners and as such has to earn the reputed 15k a week, I think it would just be frustrating to see him leave and do well at another club like we’ve seen so many times.

I asked again this morning and been told that further talks havnt happened since initial talks but maintained he would like to stay as enjoying working under Pearson who is playing him in preferred role.

  7. I’ve been told by a friend of his that contract talks have started but there was “big difference between what was wanted and offered. COD dosnt wanna leave as happy in area, but believes he’s worth more than what Is being offered”

He told me about Prings new contract last sept and he meets with Callum regularly so no reason to doubt info

  8. Despite being our current top scorer and one of our most consistent performers, no player is unsellable due to our FFP position as likely we will still need to sell more than buy. And there are other reasons too -

Age 30 - this could possibly be the best (and only time) we could potentially get a decent fee for him.
Wages - again he must be one of the highest earners at the club
Position - he’s currently playing as an attacking midfielder, don’t we have an ambundance of players who could play in his position like Scott, Benaryous, Palmer or even Massengo.

There is literally no player as this club now who (for different reasons) I would object to leaving.

  9. Sorry don’t see the love in.
He had a decent first half (but most of the team did), but lost times of the amount of times he misplaced simple passes, couldn’t control the ball, and dosnt use his obvious physical attributes to his advantage. Weak in the tackle, and often just leaves a leg out. Would be first name off team sheet once players return

  10. I dont think it will be that easy to make major changes in Jan window - we arguably have 3 players on high wages (Wells, Palmer, JD) who the club may want to sell, but who can a) afford transfer fee b) pay the wages???

I can see Massengo leaving in Jan as he’s someone who could get us a decent fee, probably has suitors and we can cope without him.

Today was just poor and sooner James and Williams can get back the better

  11. Morning all! It’s always better after an evening win…..

Plaudits rightly being given to usual suspects last night, but I havnt seen his name mentioned and wanted to give a special shout to Zac Vyner.

Thought he played with maturity last night, lots of composed moments with the ball at his feet and some excellent passing from the back. Along with COD hes been at the club a long time now and needs to start concentrating on one position, being consistent and cutting out the silly errors. He’s started doing that last couple games and I hope he continues to grow in confidence, as he’s always been a capable footballer who’s never had run in team in one position to grow.
