Why do people play dumb when it comes to England and why this can be seen as disrespectful to the country the kit is suppose to represent?

If this were another country, I can't help but think those not understanding the issue would suddenly understand the concept of a national flag being a symbol of a nation, one that has specific colours that are key identifiers of that nation's flag.

This is also coming at a time where there is clearly an orchestrated push to erode English identity and pride, and from a company that is very deep into the identity politics culture war does make this seem more than a playful redesign.

Symbolism and its importance is a well known concept to the left, the pride flag, Palestinian flag, raised fist of power etc. so how come when it's with England they act dumb?

How is it ‘disrespectful’?  We didn’t even have any reference at all to the St George’s flag on any shirts until the 2000s. It’s a bloody badge on the back of a collar and it’s been messed with before and I don’t remember people getting so bent out of shape about it then.   There are a million and one things more worthy of people’s ire going on at the moment in this country. Shame people don’t care and vent so much about those things!!

Respect to those who live locally and this is by no means a competition or remark on other fans, I’m a Bristolian from birth but haven’t lived there for a good 20 odd years and unlikely to ever move back. That said I am a season ticket holder of over 30 years yet feel frustrated in many aspects.

Well I guess to start with, it costs probably £100 a home game without season ticket, so every game is an away game, six hour round trip, yet you don’t feel you get plaudits for that or recognition, believe me it ruins your Saturday more than a 20 min drive home (I’ve done both and for sure it hurts more as you sit on the journey mulling it over and get home late!).

You get the odd ‘home’ game in London fair enough, but you still pay for your match ticket and travel!

You can’t even listen to City on Radio Bristol without paying! Because you are a city fan who doesn’t live in the area….I mean how unfair is that?! So if you can’t make a game as an exile you are essentially out of pocket either way. A local fan who cannot make it can pass the time by switching on local radio.

Basically I think us exiled fans deserve a form of loyalty! Now whether that’s loyalty points for distance travelled overall, discount off merchandise, or a free home shirt, but minimum allow exiled ST holders free radio commentary coverage!

I could easily get a season ticket at Arsenal tomorrow or West Ham. But they aren’t my club, City are, however I probably spend more than a season ticket at both those clubs combined to watch Champ football at AG. So, what can be done to encourage that and commend those supporters (many I know on here) who commit huge amounts of time and money to get to home games, plus the fact travel away most weeks too. Interesting debate, appreciate life is about choices, but some are enforced too and one thing we cannot lose is our first love - our football club!

I was very very close to moving  to London 20 plus years ago.  My plan was to get a ST at Wimbledon who were playing at Selhurst at the time in the Prem (ticket was much cheaper than City at the time) in order to get my fix and then watch City as and when money allowed. The move got canned last minute, but if it hadnt I would’ve just had to get on with not being able to afford to go to City every week.
Guess my point is that it would’ve been a life choice to move to London and a sacrifice would’ve had to have been City and I’m not really sure why the club would’ve had to subside my choice in any way shape or form.

    Agreed, mostly.

The only small challenge I'd make would be really both Everton and Nottingham Forest probably merit relegation for their Financial Management but such is the relative weakness of in particular Burnley and Sheffield United, only one at most might drop.

Who of the 2 therefore then merits the drop more (for FFP reasons).

Forest.  Their constant bleating about their overspending penalty and how unjust it is is bad enough. But add in the constant moaning about refereeing decisions they have had (and actually bringing in Clattenburg to challenge them and then moaning even more when refs won’t engage with him!) makes me just want them to go.  Never liked them since Amici / Calderwood etc season so sod ‘em! 😂

    😱£34.5m overspend??

Yes but got 2 points back for being helpful. What a piss take!! If I was an Everton fan I’d be screwing.

  4. Quite bloody right they got deducted.   Should’ve been more.   Taking the piss with their ‘why should we balance the books when they are due if we can make more money afterwards’ excuse.   Hope they go down.

The one SL has always allegedly admired, time for a change from Coventry this summer apparently. Let’s show some ambition and go for a proven leader at this level, Manning should be sacked now and King take charge to end of season leaving time for an ambitious appointment. Wouldn’t that be lovely if something like this to happen in BS3! Current situation is not healthy for the club.

No disrespect but why on earth would he come here when he’s flying at Coventry.   Not happening anytime soon.

I’m only saying those clubs because I imagine the novelty of European away days has probably worn off for Arsenal/Spurs fans - ok, Everton admittedly is a bit different.. but you get my point. Clubs that can always predict where or whereabouts they’ll be in the table and what they’ll achieve.

Fair enough.  Give me looking forward to Champions League finals, top 4 finishes, serious title tilts, semis at Wembley, cup finals and cup wins etc etc any day. I disagree massively but like I said fair play to you.

I’d much rather support City than Arsenal/Spurs/Palace/Everton..

Really?! Blimey.  To each their own but for European trips and the memories made alone I’d take any of them (bar palace who I don’t think have been there any time recently - even then you’d be getting better away day experiences and at least winning when you get relegated).

Turning 40 last year really put into perspective just how little City has given me over the years. Four decades of bouncing between the second and third tiers for a club our size is just so depressing. One notable cup run.

I look at fans of other clubs and I’m jealous of the journeys they have been on. Swansea made their way through the leagues and played in Europe. Luton have made it all the way from lowly divisions. Huddersfield, Blackpool, Barnsley, Bournemouth and even Swindon have tasted top flight football. Bradford, Portsmouth and Cardiff have all made it to a cup final. Some of these clubs have suffered since, but at least they’ve had genuinely exciting periods.

I actually think we must be one of the dullest clubs to support in the entire league. I think you could reasonably say that City fans of my generation have seen the least achievement against potential and expectation of ANY set of fans in the entire country. I’m really fed up with it!

Is there any club out there more dull than us when you consider size and potential?

I think the fact that our club deems it fit to celebrate early round cup wins from 50 and 30 years ago like we actually did something incredible (an actual kit launch ffs) tells us everything we need to know about what we currently are as a club and have been for the last 30 odd years.   It’s stale, it’s stagnant and as you say it’s dull. We really really need new impetus at the top and badly, coupled with people who have proper footballing smarts and nouse.   The amateurs leading our club just need to leave the room as soon as possible.

All this talk about low attendance in the next game overlooks it’s mates rates and we should be near to capacity no matter what ghe silent majority might think!

It will be a big attendance because it’s Bank Holiday. Lose that game and then let’s see what the attendances are against Blackburn and Huddersfield which will be a much fairer reflection.

  10. Manning is gutless.  Take some ‘ing responsibility man.  Every week it’s the same crap.  ‘No belief’?  I wonder why. ‘No quality’? I wonder why. ‘Lack of response to going behind’? I wonder why.  It’s you Manning. ‘Not lost the game because of your tactics’? Well guess what, we have and they are your tactics Manning.  And your ‘plan and pattern’ are complete and utter shite judging by what we have seen.

When are we going to hear him say I got it wrong? He’d get a modicum of respect if he did but he just cannot do it.  It’s a pathetic trait for a ‘leader’.

If you think the feeling towards the club are all based on West Brom then there isn’t really much to say…

However, these are the teams BT and JL fully believe we are able to compete with, so no excuses!

Yep exactly this.   All these crap excuses ‘but it’s (insert name of fairly decent team) we’re playing’ just won’t and do not wash.

  12. It comes to something when I’m really jealous of Coventry.  Amazing cup run. Top 6 challenging. Spending money. Great manager.  **** me they were homeless for god knows how long!  Good for them.  Always had a bit of a soft spot for them. Proper club who’ve achieved far far more than we ever have despite their serious issues.
