  1. I like Nige, and hope he stays a long time .... but I really can't understand all the anti-Lansdown posts on this thread. Nige is very clearly wrong this time. He even says himself "We haven’t won the number of games that we should have done. We haven’t got the number of points that we should have." Football is a results game and Nige has given us a very good definition of underperformance.
  2. This is how science works. There's a lot of randomness involved, so some studies are always going to deliver misleading results because of this (e.g. the people selected at random to receive a particular drug in one study might just happen to be healthier on average than those who get another drug or a placebo). So we always need to be careful giving too much weight to just "one study" (especially if it's being reported in the Daily Mail or on social media). Scientists address this by aggregating the results of as many studies as possible. Naysayers will often be able to find "one study" that gives a different result, but that doesn't mean the consensus established by the overall body of evidence is wrong.
  3. Get these silly mistakes out of system in a season when points don't really matter!
  4. Yes, apart from the fact that it seems to have been written by Yoda?
  5. Hmm, one could say that life must be dull if you resurrect threads that have been dormant for 3 weeks to have a dig at someone who perhaps had the nerve to not know who you are (no me neither). Watch out for the stones in that glass house of yours.
  6. Sorry, but you are beneath contempt for lumping politicians and scientists together. Scientists have saved billions of lives over many many years with their painstaking and often unrecognised work. They now abide by a rigorous set of procedures to weed out unreliable findings. They can't eliminate every single charlatan, but these get found out pretty quickly. Feel free not to believe them, but they are the best hope the human race has at the moment.
  7. Yay, our first away point in five games. Does this mean we're going to go back to being useless at home again? ?
  8. 10 points from our last 4 home games ? 0 points from our last 4 away games ?
  9. PLEASE stop using this football forum to defend false information about vaccinations. You posted about a story on GB News. You might not have realised this was based on a dodgy study. But PLEASE just accept that this story is just scaremongering and stop trying to defend your original post. I'll declare my interest as, even though I have a full-time job in the public sector, I give up some of my time most weekends to volunteer at local vaccination centres. I do this because very very strongly believe in the benefits of the vaccination programme for the people getting vaccinated and for their families, friends and also for other people they encounter on a completely random basis. I have nothing but contempt for people who undermine this programme by helping to spread false information. In these days "on terrestrial television" means absolutely nothing. Russia Today and Al Jazeera TV are other terrestrial TV channels. Some might argue they are more trustworthy than GB News. PLEASE just accept that the story you highlighted was not reliable
  10. It's not being swept under the carpet. Whatever politicians are like, scientists care about the truth. But this is a single study, which hasn't yet been peer reviewed, indeed only the abstract has been published in open-access format so far, no-one has yet had a chance to try to replicate the results, and the journal that published the abstract has issued an “expression of concern” statement about it, noting that it contains “potential errors” and “may not be reliable”. May be that's why reputable news outlets haven't jumped onto this story. Scientists do have a good track record of identifying potential side effects once there is actual evidence, as we've seen with the vaccines that are currently used. And a lot of work was put into another vaccine being developed in Australia that was then completely abandoned when it was found to be triggering (false) positive HIV test results. Unfortunately in these days stories that are unreliable, statistical flukes or just plain wrong often get circulated on social media and on disreputable news outlets.
  11. Not only are we obsessed by them, we are now obsessed by whether we are obsessed. And so on
  12. Other electric vehicles are available, cost a lot less and are probably more reliable
  13. Don't you know anyone who's had bad Covid symptoms? You just can't tell whether they will last for days, weeks or months.
  14. Do you think Nige might play himself?
  15. So many people have such short memories. It wasn't very long ago that, at best, we were simply yo-yo-ing between the Championship and League One (or worse - remember it was only in the 2000s that it took us a whole EIGHT years to get out of League One), and we couldn't seem to stay more than 2 or 3 seasons in the Championship let alone achieve top half finishes and be seen as potential play-off contenders. Things could be a lot better, but we are still light years ahead of where we used to be. Still work to do? Yes of course Ashamed and embarrassed? Grow up!
  16. Ridiculous post, but par for the course. Very fine margins at play here. We've conceded injury time equalisers against Blackpool and Luton, and injury time equaliser and defeat against Forest. Had we seen these games out we would now be 5th in the table.
  17. Honourable mention for a 5-1 defeat at Cambridge (yes Cambridge) in a 5th round FA Cup replay, think it was around 1990?
  18. Isn't it more likely that someone in the media dept can't read a calendar properly?
  19. Even BCC is joining in the fun - they're going be building GAP HOMES in Horfield ? https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/jun/16/bristol-to-build-gap-homes-on-garage-sites-to-tackle-housing-crisis
  20. Sorry I simply don't believe this. I was under the impression that an injury list this long could only possibly be the result of an evil plot devised by Mark Ashton and implemented by Andy Rolls, and that we are the only club in the country with such a problem
