Looks like Lloyd Irish has kissed and made up with the club! Hopefully the works do help avoid postponements too

Then their game tonight gets postponed because of a frozen pitch!!

Whty cant they play at a league ground?

    Remember Enfield playing at  WHL.

Eastleigh are a national league side with a decent ground. They will play at home if the tie against that horrible club happens!.

Attendance will be over 20k as it usually is and this is a game that you would hope and expect City to win.  But we win games we expect to lose and lose games we expect to win quite frequently.

My concern is that some of the players might have an eye on the West Ham replay and might want to make sure that they don't over exert themselves against Preston and try to avoid any injuries.

Lets hope that Tommy has got his shooting boots on again and that some of the others have been having some shooting practice - does nobody ever tell them not to lean back when having a shot at goal? - I thought that was one of the basics for all footballers at any level.

2-0 to City - there, that's kiboshed it.

Preston average about 17k, not sure where you get the over 20k regular crowds from.

I actually thought Conway slipped but maybe I'm wrong.

I don't think roughing up a team necessarily means fouling them. Fact is Pring clattered a couple of their players leading to one needing a concussion test and one going off injured.

Not usually our style but in a cup tie away to a Prem team, you absolutely love to see it.

Moyes wasn't complaining about it either, to his credit.

Conway tried to do what any centre forward would do, but got his timing 100% wrong. No nastiness involved, but a nailed on yellow.

It’s not whether West Ham give a toss that is relevant, with respect of course. The Metropolitan Police will be the final arbiter of what happens. They might not give a toss either but that will be their call to make not West Ham.

I agree to an extent, if there are 2-3 thousand City fans queuing to get in at the ground, they may well delay the game.

But, if there are 2-3 thousand still at various points in London, still travelling to the ground, I don’t think they would.

See that Jack Taylor has returned to Bridgwater from Corsham. Expected to sign a few more players in the next couple of weeks from higher divisions as well. Hope they fail miserably.

A lot of people in Bridgwater actually feel the same. I’ve watched them on and off for 50 years, but refuse to go anymore, I won’t give the criminal owner a penny.

The town’s club is an absolute embarrassment. Owned now by a complete buffoon.

That has all the signs of a club folding.

Taunton have been paying players big money for the last 4-5 years, this was always on the cards.

Lloyd Irish who has come out with this statement, actually left Taunton 18 months ago to play for Barnstaple. At the time Barnstaple had a new chairman and were throwing cash to players. Irish soon returned to Taunton when Barnstaple got relegated, and that money stopped being paid.🙄.

I think that tells you everything about him as a person. It seems the money is more important than any kind of loyalty.

Taunton rely solely on gate money to pay their high wages, so potentially this was going to happen sooner or later.

As someone who spent the Division 1 days stood in the open section just as you got in the East End - but wasn't part of the City mob - I remember numerous incursions into the EE by away fans.

All the London teams in particular it was expected and eagerly anticipated with a great mob of City fans assembled at least an hour before the game.

Spurs I remember sauntered in at about 2.15 as if they owned the place, smiles all over their faces arrogantly looking over towards the middle of the EE, until the mob they were apparently looking for descended on them unexpectedly, all hell broke loose, and they were booted out, literally, within a couple of minutes, and far from smiling.

As you say as a young non participant it all added to the day's excitement and entertainment.

I think  it’s Nick Hornby’s  book “fever pitch” that covers the episode when Arsenal came into the East end, and got smashed.

  9. I was there tonight, City stopped Stoke from being able to play, it wasn’t an organised press of any kind, just really quick closing down all over the pitch. As said above, City’s no 7 is ‘very’ pacy, and Stoke’s  left back really struggled against him all evening.
City controlled the game for 75% of the time, and looked decent all over the pitch.

Thought the referee was superb as well.

Not an unfair point as mentioned before but what did Jon say.... "The fans will still be there"...

Simple fact is if you're at the ground and cheering on the team you're doing exactly what Jon expects of you and your opinion means nothing to him. My concern is at what point do the fans finally manage to get it through to Jon that we're not happy because right now the fans are still there and it's business as usual for Jon, in his eyes there is no real backlash over the changes because the fans are still doing what he wants.

It's a lose lose situation for the fans, we go to the games and we do what Jon wants, we stay home and we contribute to the problem.

Take it from me, anyone who stops going, and goes and watches non league football, won’t regret it.

Best thing I’ve done, no stress, enjoy the football, easy parking, no queuing, close to the pitch and proper football.

You even see shots on goal, and goal mouth action 😳. A rarity at AG!.

  11. I walked away from the club when LJ was put in charge, 45 years of home and away travel.

i don’t regret it for a moment, the club couldn’t care less about the support they get, it’s all about the control those at the top have/want.

Obviously I still read the forum, I see how angry and frustrated everyone is, well, you have a choice, stop going like I did, you will start enjoying your football again.

There is plenty of football out there to watch and enjoy, I can vouch for that.

  12. Was living in New Zealand in the late 80’s, was in work and my Managing director was showing a visitor around, they both walked up to me to chat, and the visitor was wearing a silver Bristol City tie with the Robin crest on the front!.
Needless to say, we ended up having a long chat, which I don’t think my MD was too happy about!.

I know there are but my point is that they are outdated and could do with being looked at again.

They aren’t outdated though. You could potentially have 11 players in a team knocked out of the 2nd round today, then they all play in the third round for the team that beat them!.

The rules were brought in, along with transfer deadline day in March, to stop clubs buying loads of players for a final push but it is redundant now.

There will be a case where some lad gets bought by a premier league club from a lower one in January, he tears it up, and his new club goes on to get to the Cup Final. He`ll have played ten minutes for his old club in Round Two and will be stopped from playing in the final because of it.

It doesn’t matter, there are rules, the clubs know what they are, if they break them they have to accept the consequences.

Amazon have been told their pundits can't criticise referees because the PL is worried they'll lose their referees to foreign leagues because the referees don't like the amount of criticism they get. Sky/BT have been told the same but just carry on because of how large their investment in English football is they know the PL can't really do anything about it, Amazon however who only have a small TV deal are easy to replace.

The real problem is the amount of young referees who are quitting the game, assaults are now common practice in non league grassroots games.
    These ‘were’ the future referees.
