Don’t give a sh*t about other team’s supporters views. Massive bit of BCFC heritage and very special memories for my family. I was too young to go but was astonished to hear my Dad being interviewed by Radio Bristol at Temple Meads on returning. He’s no longer with us but I will be thinking of him this afternoon. UTC.

I get it, and I have a similar affinity to the Liverpool purple shirt - was my first kit.

It’s still a bit of a joke of a thing to commemorate, but we don’t have much to celebrate. Promotion winning kits, or the fa cup final kit would be understandable.

I'm not jumping on this because I'm not sure what the situation is, I wonder if he was on the bench encase we had another game where we were comfortable and he could come on and get some minutes without having to push himself. Obviously that never happened and so maybe Manning didn't send him on because he was concerned he'd push himself and get re-injured. Without confirmation from Manning himself, I'm not jumping on Manning for not using him, he already has enough to reflect on after that game, all his own doing.

This seems logical, but clearly everyone’s in a bad mood tonight and slating everything and everyone

  3. So Tuesday night it was “how can anyone form an opinion after such short time”

Tonight it’s “not sure he’ll ever play again”

Christ alive, this forum at times 🤣

It was from a Yougov poll. It is indirectly relevant as many of the remaining 94% will having working hours that make it difficult to attend fixtures that have been moved. I accept that some people will find it beneficial as you do, but personally I would not buy a season ticket if I was unable to make Saturday games as this is when games are traditionally played.

You make the parking sound so easy. It's a wonder so many people have trouble with it.

That study was based around flexibility (and it's 6 years old, including pre-covid) so the people not working 9-5 incuded people working 7-3/8-4 or working longer hours. Also found that almost half had more flexible patterns included condensed work hours and job sharing.

So if you're trying to argue that 94% of people don't work Monday - Friday in "traditional" working hours and therefore can't make certain game times then I don't think that poll is really relevant.

I could equally argue that almost half of people have a flexible working arragement that means they could get away early for an evening game, or shift their hours about?

As for parking, it just depends how close you want to be to the ground. Could definitely be improved of course, and some people can't walk too far, but I always manage and walk 15-20 mins to the ground

We've had one Saturday 3pm kick-off at home in 2024.

In December, we also had only one Saturday 3pm kick off.

At a time where only ~6% of people work 9-5 hours combined with the number of games that do not kick off on a traditional match day at a traditional time, I think you will continue to see empty seats on a game by game basis.

Where have you got only 6% of people work “9-5 hours” from? Not sure why that’s specifically relevant here either, it would affect a few people true but there will a fair few who can’t make a Saturday afternoon - eg I’ve managed to make 4/5 more games than I normally would in that time.

I think it’s raised every time about the under 12s ST and that’s probably playing a part - as well as people moving seats, not least because if you have an ST in the Sourh Stand then it’s almost impossible to bring a mate and sit with them.

On the subject of moving seats, I remember as a kid when we were shit enough that my dad and I would move along the Williams to the end we were attacking each game and there was plenty of room 😂

As for getting to the game, there’s loads of parking options in Bedminster and easy enough to get away.

Why not,? Man Utd have worn blue.

Pretty sure City has actually borrowed Rovers kit, although 1909 was plain blue

Far bigger achievement  than 74 and happened 11 years before Rovers even became a league club.

It’s still celebrating defeat. That said, I’ve long said I’d be happy to see a blue away kit, even if just a one off. Them lot are irrelevant, would just wind them up 😂

I’m not quite sure what makes QPR (h) tie with Leeds, but hey-ho.

I do like the shirt though.

Until they get Mick Harford in a retro shiny Park Furnishers kit, I ain’t buying though!  You central badge haters are gonna meltdown! 🤣🤣🤣

What’s the betting they had this planned for the 5th round… except we didn’t make it 🤣

Getting rinsed online by other clubs fans,  not that I really care but fully get the point it is a little embarrassing.

It’s a very nice shirt though, but I refrained from purchasing. Before my time so don’t have the same affinity to it but would have been nice to have as a kit for the whole season.

I fail to see how anyone can form an opinion on Mebude on a 10/15 minute appearance!

Of course you can form an opinion. It might not be your final view on his ability but you can certainly form an initial view of his attitude, demeanor, comfort on the ball etc

Seems we are wearing the shirt against QPR.

I really hope it doesn't have our sponsor on it.

Here's hoping 🤞...if it's got front and back sponsor, arm badges, name and number etc then apart from the badge and round neck, and obvious pinstripe it won't look much different to what we already have.

    It's in the fourth sentence

"This sponsor-free exclusive shirt will be worn by the team at Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship home match against QPR, with the players wearing white shorts and red and white socks.

The club extends its gratitude to O’Neills, Huboo, DNRG, Watches of Bath and GoSkippy for their support in removing their logos from this unique edition shirt. "

So, the big question is, with these shirts selling so fast, will they do another production run?

Once produced, it must be easier to make more?

One of my favourite shirts was a red polo shirt with the old club badge on. As it was low key, smart casual, you could wear it at times when a match shirt was not appropriate and only those stood close to you could pick up the name on the crest.

That's not how limited edition works though. Some things are just produced at a small number to increase their value and worth.

That whole rule around how long you play advantage for needs tightening up. I get that it's a little bit subjective but often I'll see refs play advantage then pull it back 3-4 seconds later (correctly IMO) if the advantage doesn't play out then in other games, the advantage is lost after 1-2 seconds and the official deems the time too long to pull it back.

It's a very frustrating, but also difficult rule.

IMO if the player has still made his pass, and the next one cocks it up, whether it's 2 seconds or 6 is irrelevant we've had the "advantage" in that the balls gone to it's intended target regardless of the foul.

Though when it does become subjective is if the receiving player is under more pressure because the player that was fouled was slowed down, or couldn't make his pass correctly.

I think it's one of those that someone who's played the game will understand better than a ref that hasn't.

Very similarly is the " he got his shot away" when fouled in the box - as if the shot wouldn't have been better had the player not been off balance from the foul.

I wanted to start a new thread on this, not so much Max himself but the tactics of the distribution.

I don't quite understand the passing to the wings, it seems to me that it has a low success percentage, but it has been used by successive managers and goalkeepers.

If the ball is over hit possession is given away, if it is under hit, you run the risk of an interception that takes the receiving player out of the defensive shape. That's before you have the issue of the likes of Bell and Mehmeti trying win the ball in the air. It's not so bad with Ross and Cam playing, but it still requires a degree of accuracy that few goalkeepers possess.

Then you have the situation last night where, having made two good blocks and having the crowd calling his name, obviously gets a rush of adrenalin and hoofs the ball a mile out of play.

I don't quite see what the advantage is compared to playing through the middle, unless any of the coaches on here can explain it to me?

Sat with a Southampton fan last night and I made these comments to him about Max's distribution - he said he thought he'd been pretty good all night (and better than theirs) and only kicked one out of play all night.

It's quite obvious that Southampton in particular were leaving a lot of space for our wingers, it's definitely the outball for a keeper if a short feet option isn't on.

Funny you mention the pitch.  Pre-game, both me and the chap I sit next to thought the grass looked longer than normal.  And I don’t think it played as slick as it usually does.  Saints passing early doors was stodgy, and they misplaced quite a few passes trying to put pace on the ball.

No idea whether a LM plan or not?

This is a really silly observation, but there was something odd about the way the players boots looked and I think that makes sense that either the grass was a bit longer, or they were sinking in a bit more.

As I say, very odd observation, not sure how I noticed this

The "advantage" where Mehmeti took two touches before being tackled by the same guy who fouled Conway? To me, that was a short enough time to find it incredulous that he didn't pull it back for a free-kick. Southampton then got a corner from our "advantage" instead of us having a free-kick just outside the box and their player wasn't even booked.

    Completely agree

I note the "Cult of Nige" are quiet tonight?  Ha!     PS.Not that i have anything against Uncle Nigel.

    What a pointless comment.

I was a big Nige fan, and I’ve just got in from the game, and that’s as good a league performance as I’ve ever seen from City. As per OP up there with the LJ days when he had us playing.

    Vyner never touched him. 😡

I don’t actually recall this, but is worth remembering there doesn’t have to be contact to be a foul - though as I say I missed this as I had no idea Vyner got booked!

  16. 1 hour ago, Lew-T said:

They did one at the very end when we were on the break, again no booking given.

Ref played advantage I think? There was at least one or two where that was the case and I’m almost certain if they aren’t actually successful in stopping the attack then it’s no yellow (unless it’s dangerous etc)

  17. I absolutely adore the way Vyner has turned his reputation around here and long may it continue.

I was sceptical of whether he could play Manning ball, solid defender but wasn’t especially known for his ball playing ability. Now he’s out here threading outside of the foot passes down the line to our wingers like Kevin De Bruyne.

Well done LM and every player who executed the game plan so well - that’s the standard we should be aspiring to now 💪🏻💪🏻

Fully agree, I said similar tonight in the context of the opponent (and they were above Leeds at the start who battered us last week) their run etc that’s one of the best home wins I’ve seen from us.

Southampton weren’t even that bad tonight, they had a couple of chances. We were just that good.

It's hard enough for refs choosing between red and yellow cards. Add a third and it gets even more subjective and harder to decide which is the appropriate choice. Whatever the rules it is still down to a ref's judgement. I'd rather they left it as it is.

It’s in place already at lower levels, it’s specifically for dissent.

Id agree if they change it to cynical fouls as well it may become subjective, but that’s not how it works at the moment.

What about if player A commits a foul on player B who then has to leave the field for treatment, then player A should leave the field too until player B returns or is subbed?

That would be my new rule.

Would just be abused, their best player fouls one of yours? Take a rest to be “treated” and get him off the pitch. Just doesn’t work in practice

On 10/02/2024 at 08:11, RedM said:

So I assume they can't be sin binned again later in the match, so what's next a yellow or a yellow tallying up to a red so they are off?

Can be sin binned twice, but after the second cannot return to play but can be substituted.

You can receive a booking (either before or after) as well as one sin bin - but a second yellow is a red and a second sin bin means you cannot return or be substituted - so effectively a red as well but no fine for the player.

Unfortunately it does what it was designed to do - it confirms the right decision and therefore reduces the fans wrath at the officials that we all know has been a huge factor in matches and is still an issue outside of the PL.

Sorry but I don’t know what football you watch, VAR has absolutely not reduced the fans wrath 🤣

They've literally been testing it for 5 years in lower leagues. Apparently it's worked quite well.

It surprises me how many are discussing what may or may not happen when it’s already in use. I’m guessing some didn’t know this.

However in my experience it only works as well as the ref applying the rules. I’ve seen plenty of dissent still, swearing, calling ref and/or linesmen a cheat etc and go unpunished.

On 11/02/2024 at 16:39, Robbored said:

Too complicated Cowshed - why introduce an unnecessary card?

As I posted earlier yellow = 10 mins in the sin bin. A second yellow = red card and off. Straightforward and simple. Teams are familiar playing against 10 or with only 10.

Benefits are that referees likely to be less card happy. Players aware to be less reckless particularly when tacking.

Should a team have two in the sin bin (as England did in the rugby yesterday) hard luck.

You’re aware how many yellow cards there are in games? This would be far worse than a sin bin for dissent.

Here’s a link to the current sin bin rules:

Why is it that our fans make so much noise away from home when we seem so quiet at home?

Fairly obvious really, the more vocal support tend to travel. Add the “away day” traditions and excitement and the fact we’re usually all bunched together it’s always going to be louder.

IMO away support tends to sing regardless of what’s going on on the pitch, because it’s about the day out.

Home support tends to react to what’s happening.

Our stadium looks good. However the acoustic sound that 23K plus in attendance is average. There was more sound and atmosphere at Ashton Gate when we had the old east end , Grand stand, Enclosure, the original Dolman stand.
unfortunately a state of the art stadium like we have now does bring with it the passion that City fans had many years ago.

Don’t think this is it at all. The place was absolutely rocking for the Man Utd and City home games.
As above, home crowds react more to what’s happening rather than proactive support (ie the rest of the ground that wouldn’t normally sing)

Same reason Forests support was dead, but generally seems quite decent in the Prem

It's probably been mentioned elsewhere but I think it deserves a thread of its own...I thought our support last night was outstanding, most fans standing, most singing, the noise at times was fantastic...been plenty of positive comments on various platforms today from fans of other clubs praising the numbers and the atmosphere we created even from Forest fans. Well done to one and all 👏👏 and it was great to see so many youngsters decked out in City gear joining in with the songs...well most of them 😀

I must say, when we were being forced to our seats and I was down the front I was worried we’d be all spread out and it would be difficult to make noise, but it seemed to carry - although it was clear there was 2 sections but people joined in/caught up.

i did think the crowd went (with the energy levels) around the hour mark and in that time between their goal and ours there was some negative shit being shouted.

Generally decent, as most away games are, but some way off some of the best games IMO (but might just be my position)
