Looks like Miles Hammond is going to get himself a reputation as a player of spin.

He started as an offie, don’t forget.

Dismal from Glos over these last three days. Everyone knows the class of Amla, but we let a strong position on day one slip and batted woefully.

Edgbaston allowed to be at 72% capacity for each day with 18,000 people in attendance of the test as latest pilot event..... compared to the 10,000 total allowed for championship play off event in Wembley

    Yeah that makes sense...

A mate and I have tickets for that and will be going, weather permitting.

Bracey in? Billings has been called up as well breaking the no IPL player idea. Interested as to who the next glovesman would have been after Buttler, Bairstow, Bracey, Billings and Foakes.

I've heard Bracey will keep for England this week. Great news for Glos fans and thoroughly deserved for the dirty gashead.

I'd like to see Hameed come straight in for either Sibley or Burns. Burns has more form right now, though.

Surrey will probably be missing their England contingent. Though that'll mean Glos miss Bracey as well.

Good point, I’d overlooked that. Surrey will still have Amla and Stoneman, though.

I reckon Bracey’s 50/50 for his Test debut, in which case he might play at the Oval. Silverwood will probably go Burns, Sibley, Crawley, Root, Pope, Bracey/Lawrence, Foakes, Robinson/Overton, Leach, Wood, Anderson.

I'm still struggling with the fact we are top of the table. ?

I’m not. Happy days, despite today’s farce! Game in hand next week at the Oval to pull further clear, even if we lose we should still pick up bonus points.

I’d back us to beat Leics and Middx, Hants should be the toughest of our games left (unless Surrey’s top five fire next week).

    Glos v Somerset starts tomorrow.

I'm heading down Friday lunchtime, here's hoping the rain holds off...

I've got a ticket for Friday as well, mate. Shame the forecast is for biblical rain. Let me know if you fancy a pint.

Forecast looking rubbish draw looks likely again.

Today's forecast reckons we might get the morning session in, but it looks grim after lunch. Friday and Sunday look washouts as well. It's raining up here now but if ever there was a day to bowl first, today is it (not that it'll affect the inevitable draw).

It's alright for you and @slartibartfast, as I note that Glos. don't even have a match scheduled before playing Somerset so should escape the rain and consequent lost points.

Fear not. I'm fairly sure Somerset will beat us next week. They won't have liked being well beaten by us on their own patch.

The last time I went to Glos v Soms in the County Championship, Trescothick was bowled third ball by Mike Smith, Somerset were on the ropes and Richard Johnson smashed a ton from No.8 (we still managed to win, though!)

Not sure if you or any of the other Glos fans on here have seen it, but there's a good interview with David Payne on TMS Online at the moment. One of the things he said was that our thumping at Taunton last year has made us pull our socks up.

I'm looking forward to getting down to watch Glos next week, just hope this abysmal weather buggers off by then.

  8. While there's no doubt he's an athelte who might improve, I see a player that's neither a winger or striker. His two league goals were charge downs and he's consistently shown a lack of composure in key positions. Unlike late bloomers like Reid, Semenyo hasn't come through any academy from a young age and doesn't have that football brain. I thought the penny might have dropped in the Cup at Millwall, but we've seen nothing like that since.

Personally, I would accept £3m+ for Semenyo in the current financial climate with several add-ons to ensure payment if he does develop. Those funds could be used to inject more quality over quantity back into the squad. If a deal could be done quickly and reinforcements could be in before the start of pre-season, it's a no-brainer for me.

The body language from the team is excellent, they never seem to be concerned no matter the position they are in during the game.

I think we all thought the lack of a spinner was going to be an issue, but the variety in the pace attack is working well. All this without Van Buuren for the last three games as well.

Totally agree. It will be interesting to see how we fare having to defend a score, seeing as we’ve chased for each of the four wins so far.

    Another 50 up for Bracey.
    That’s 5 50’s in 5 LVCC games this season.

The lad's class, shame he's gas.

I played against him when he was in his teens. He trotted out in a Glos helmet playing for Winterbourne under his brother's captaincy. Batted straight but couldn't hit the ball off the square. You could see he had something, though.

Fingers crosssed we get two sessions in at Lord's tomorrow.

It appears that the Sky coverage of the Glos game is being taken from Middlesex's web stream, therefore it's not going to be as slick as it would be if Sky were broadcasting it themselves.

Similar in a way to the football they show on the red button - better than nothing but not absolutely ideal.

And some dodgy early decisions against us to boot. I'm convinced had this not been on Sky, we'd have got at least two decisions. Makes the lack of a replay a bit ironic, really.

I have a feeling they might stick with this format going forward, quite a few of the counties have come out in favour of it. Gives every team a chance of winning the title at the start of the season and allows them to blood youngsters without the stress of promotion and relegation.

I'm also in favour of the new format, not just for those reasons you mention, but I really like the regularity of games every week. I'm sure the players are the same. Playing County Cricket in blocks like this without the distraction of white-ball cricket promotes focus and allows players to hone their craft. It can only be a good thing, especially for England.

Yes, I think I am right in saying that Dent has won every toss so far and put the opposition in which flies in the face of conventional wisdom. The only thing I can think is that they are trying to create a run chase in the second innings, considering they have been more successful in one day cricket in the last couple of years, it would seem a reasonable tactic.

Win the toss, bat first only really applies on flat tracks with a clear forecast, though.

I thought the decision to put Leics in yesterday was a good one, on a green pitch and under cloudy skies. We didn't bowl well, though, and spilled too many catches. I suspect there might be a bit of complacency creeping in as Leics are poor.

Haseeb Hameed finding some form at Notts two tons in the game

That's fantastic to see, IMO. I was out in India and watched his England debut in Mumbai. He has everything, got a half-century with a broken hand and lost his way. Happy to see he's on his way back. England need him if he's anywhere near where he was in 2016.

Grit and determination..............bit like the city have shown lately !

Shaw chanelling his inner Boycott, and Dom Goodman looks like a bit of a find. We definitely lack a decent spinner. Shame Dawson couldn't get Bess.

At the moment a draw seems likely because we have restricted them to less than 3 an over, let's hope they don't accelerate tomorrow.

More "unforeseen" ramifications of Brexit by the way, Van Buuren suddenly becomes an overseas player after 5 years!

    https://www.gloscricket.co.uk/news/statement-on-graeme-van-buuren/

We bowled pretty poorly yesterday, except for Worrall and Higgins. Shaw in particular has bowled like a drain. The sooner Payne's missus gives birth, the better. Not for the first time we miss a quality spinner on slow, flat decks like this.

I agree a draw seems likely. We even slowed our over rate right down after lunch. Just need our batsmen to fill their boots. Against Mohammed Abbas, however, that's no certainty.

153 to win then for Glos. I think it will take 6 or 7 wickets to do it though.

Losing Dent before the close was a blow but there’s enough batting to get us over the line. Fingers crossed. Either way, it’s been a great game between two evenly-matched sides. Who’d have thought that of us three years ago?
