FGR average around 2,500 and I can't see them getting much more than that tbh.

Not a large catchment area and, whilst its a great success story, not a lot of history.

If they can push above 3k in their new stadium, they'll be doing well imo.

Err.. I was talking about the Gas!

Sadly I can't see FGR's attendances ever being higher than the Gas.

Even more sadly I don't think FGRs attendances at the new stadium will be any higher than they are in Nailsworth. At least after the novelty wears off. It will be 8 miles from the existing core supporter base and the support for the move is far from universal.

They have a "Faithful and True" chant, i thought it was just a few morons on Slagchat that came out with the faithful and true line but no they have an actual chant. unbelievable.

To be fair, it's probably because it's the only thing that they could find to rhyme with 'blue'

How does the womans game work with regard to budgets etc?

We've done well to keep going in the Super League for the last few years; and unlike Yeovil or Notts County we of course wont go bust.

But what is the goal or objective? Any decent player we get; only stays for a year or so; Lucy Graham being a good recent example.

Yes I was wondering about this too. Surely SL could chuck a relative pittance at it to make the team competitive, or are there financial restrictions?

I would certainly be a whole lot cheaper to get the ladies to the top of the prem than the men! Would be good publicity for Bristol Sport too if they were up there challenging, with the push to popularize the Women's game at present. Of all the components of Bristol Sport the ladies team surely would be the easiest to get to the very top I would tthink?

  5. I sometimes wonder if Bristol Rovers isn't real, that it's some kind of TOWIE type soap opera purely for our enjoyment.

I mean when they won at Ipswich they were 3rd, on a roll and with a home game to come against AFC Wimbledon to go 2nd and I rhink City lost that day. Lireraly No-one would have written a sscript where the manager walks out to go to  team  in danger of relegation to the National League, they employ a new manager who's never played, managed or won a game of football in his life and they drop like a stone to 12th and lose at home to the team in 23rd in L2 whe there was a real chance of a Wembley final.

Had some spare time on the way to work and had the pleasure of re-reading this beautiful thread.

I do wonder why this wasn't merged with this thread though?

    Anyway, enjoy the read!

Blimey, there was an amazingly accurate prediction here!!!

My main gripe is that if Rovers did go down, I can see them being something of a marquee club for the Skrill,

If they go down, I can see them being a marquee club as well.  They'll start work on their new ground, and run out of money, so will just have a few large tents around the pitch instead of proper stands.

I'm intrigued by what looks like a Tannoy speaker top right? Rather than it being bolted to the stanchion horizontally in the traditional manner, it appears to be suspended by a cable looped over a nail attached to one of the tent poles and therefore just dangles limply, pointing straight down

Ian Holloway lurking suspiciously outside the shitter too.

First warning letter should've arrived from Companies House by now. If they carry on ignoring those then the company could be struck off by early August.

While the fines for late returns are nothing even for a tinpot operation like Rovers one thing you do not want to do is provoke HMRC to have a closer look at your affairs. Not submiting on time wil certainly do that!

It’s a day that doesn’t come round too often for me, but it happened today....City win away, Jags win away, Gas lose at home....that is the Holy Trinity for me....and the liquor tastes very smooth as a result!

Same for me except that for some reason that I've long since forgotten, I follow Alloa and a Partick loss today would have been great. Still as the only part time team in the Scottish Championship, Alloa are putting up a great fight. Last season Brechin got 5 points or something and didn't win a game all season...

Looks like he's just taken a bite of "da foinal turd"... ?

It's the same weird gurning/yawning/nervous tick thing that Clarke was doing towards the end of his reign. Is there some sort of Scooby Doo type thing going on where it's actually Clarke wearing a mask and putting on a really bad 'Oirish' accent. Come to think of it, has anyone seen Clarke recently?

"If it wasn't for you meddling meddling teds, we'd have got away with it" etc

They don't have a league match now until 29th Jan when Tubby Tomlin comes back to Bristol with Peterborough.

Jeez if anything is going to make Tomlin "reconsider his life choices", it surely has to be running out on to the pitch at that dump.

Current form is terrific.  4 league games now without scoring a goal.  Thats a full 6 hours of fruitless football or 720 whole minutes.  Two 0-0 draws and two 1-0 defeats. Gaschat is in a state of misery.

Surely time for the old Billy Connolly, Partick Thistle joke...

I hear the Al Qadi family are planning to change Bristol Rovers' name, the club will be known as "Bristol Rovers Nil".

    I thank you

  13. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear...really not a good day for BRFC even by their own low standards, maybe they were attempting to bury bad news with more bad news!

Application to turn barns into residential use at The Colony has been refused by SGC. No ecological surveys were submitted. Now I'm no expert in planning but Ecological surveys are a pretty basic requirement.

  14. So, whisper it quietly, do we think they might sneak play-off place? I think the top 5 is out of reach but that last play off place is very much up for grabs.

Plymouth could be the heroes who stop them, they've come from about 10pts down and bottom place and still have the Gas at home to come I think.

Whatever you think about them, it would be some achievement by Clarke given the background he's working against and he's had F all support from the rest of the clowns in charge.

I would like to know how they have spent £12m  SINCE the take over. If they count Dwayne Sports purchase of the train ground, could they include anything that the family has bought in the time since the takeover? They may as well as the club wouldn't own that either.

This is what swissgas posted (and to be honest he seems to have far more clue what's going on than Hamer.)

    Quote

As far as I can see, in rounded terms, the £12 million has been spent to pay off the former directors loans  (£4.5 million) pay off the MSP Capital loan (£2.7 million) pay part of the 2016 losses ( £1 million) pay for the subsequent 17 months trading losses (£2.8 million) and make a loan to Dwane Colony to buy the training ground land (£1 million)

It looks as though we are losing £2 million per year so the loan owing to Dwane Sports will increase by that amount every year until Hani decides the marathon is over.

So the man with the money wants to protect his "investment" by putting a charge on the ground. However that "investment" is currently losing about £2 million a year apparently This is not going to end well is it.

  16. I liked the way that twice when talking about the 'training ground' being ready, he said "Septem...umm...July 2019". So there's a 3 month delay already!

That state of the art 'Training Complex' has very quickly become 1 full size pitch and 3 smaller ones with no mention of any other facilities at all. That visit to see Fleetwood's facilities must have been very enlightening:-

"This is fantastic, just what we want, so how much did it cost?"

    "8 Million quid"

"Bugger that for a game of soldiers"

It should also be asked that, given it's now just 4 pitches, why the hell is the planning permission still dragging on and on?

I'm certainly intrigued by all of this discussion revolving around potential administration for Rovers, but isn't it all hearsay? People speak about this £10m loan taken against the Mem as if it's common knowledge, but could it not just be an overblown rumour?

Nope it's from the accounts lodged with Companies House for the football club and / or Dwayne Sports. All freely and publicly available from Companies House. Most of the other stuff is informed guesswork but the Charge against the stadium is there in black & white.
