Swear it's been the same for last couple of seasons aswel, quite frustrating that the club doesn't keep the fans updated about long term injuries like Atkinson and benarous

Longer than that. I can barely remember a season that we didn't have a good proportion of the squad out. Even 2017-18 LJ often basically had 11 players to choose from which, in his case, was actually beneficial because he couldn't meddle too much. O'Dowda, Kalas, Duric, Paterson, Taylor, Korey Smith, Gary O'Neill, long spells out around that time.

Contrast to the 2014-2015 promotion season where we only had 2 significant injuries (Wilbraham and Agard and then JET and Matt Smith slotted in perfectly).

The Holden season was ridiculous, as is this season. Cant just simply be bad luck for it to happen season after season.

I might be wrong, but the story I heard was we were interested in Williams to begin with. When he got injured we moved on to Walsh.

Liam Walsh! Had almost forgotten about him. Currently residing in the where are they now file.

Actually still at Swansea, 12 appearances in 2 season plus 3 on loan at Hull. Looks like he'll need to drop down the leagues to get his career going again.

Doesn't matter, it's Whitby.       Got a nice sound to it........... a sort of Sutton, Hayes or Hitchiney sound to it !

Northern Premier League, Step 3 instead of Step 2 for Chelmsford, so bigger potential embarassment. Decent away record too.........

  4. In hindsight it now looks like Wolves might have been the better choice for him, although it didn't seem like it at the time.

Wolves look to have the basis of a decent squad this season but Bournemouth look like a train crash. Tough ask for anyone to come into a struggling team for their first experience of PL.

Whether Wolves were prepared to meet the asking price or been prepared for a 3 month injury is another question.

Firstly I hope the person is okay.

Secondly I seem to recall a rather unsettling medical incident a fit or similar v Swansea late last October. Played on despite widespread calls not to. Will depend on the circs I guess ie the severity of the medical condition etc.

Sadly it seems he/she was being treated and receiving CPR right next to the touchline, so it seems pretty insensitive try to carry on playing.

  6. No I'm sure you're right but...

It's ironic in that I think the only way SL will make big money out of Bristol City FC itself is to get promoted to the PL. They reckon Luton will make upwards of £100 million this season but most of that will go to the new ground. We would barely have to spend anything on the facilities and I don't think we could even attract £100 millions worth of players in one transfer window! How much did Forest spend last summer?

But of course right now SL isn't allowed to bankroll the club to such an extent as to make promotion likely, even if he wanted to.

I do think it was a mistake not to allocate some of the AS money to the playing budget, if only to make staying clear of the relegation places more comfortable. The game tomorrow could be a pivotal game for this season for me, given our awful record v Leeds. Lose both and I'll be looking downwards. Only Sheff Wed look nailed on to go down so far, no penalty points incoming for any club, so could easily get dragged in to a relegation battle with such a thin and injury prone squad....

    Yep I'm a glass half-empty type obviously.

Luke Thomas has suffered from mental health & this is bullying in the workplace and gross misconduct. What a disgusting bloke Barton is & as a player who in their right mind would want to play for him as it could be your turn next.  In fairness even the most biased Rovers fans who defend them at all costs are calling this out.  Can the PFA do anything about this?

Yes to say this PUBLICLY about an employee who has had mental health issues recently is absolutely callous and absolutely the PFA should get involved, if not Mental Health charities. I find it horrendous to think what might be going through the player's mind this evening.

What any manager in or outside football in 2023 should know is that someone who suffers from mental health issues quite often doesn't make the best decisions.

The sad thing is that JB obviously has mental health issues himself.

  8. Surely basic English Language competency should be part of the Fit and Proper ownership test. When you launch abusive rants online and misspell the first two words of said rant, it doesn't reflect well on the club for a start.

You don't know that and neither do I, none of us know. I have worked at a multitude of companies in my working life, and would be hard pressed to tell what any of the bigwigs do other than try to look important when anyone is looking.

When I first started in IT at a pensions company, the chairman was up in the Ivory towers on the top floor. Occasionally he was needed to sign an important document or something. The girls on reception knew to phone him, before anyone went up, to make sure he was actually awake in order to avoid embarrasment. He was something to do with Arsenal too, in the Peter Hill Wood era.

Nothing much has changed in the last 30 odd years, across several companies. They come in, spout the usual bollocks, inevitably screw up sooner or later, depart suddenly (to pursue other opportunities), move on somewhere else and the cycle restarts. Usually ex public school, oxbridge types.

And then there are the American companies...

  10. Impossible situation this season. Probably smallest budget in the league (FGR's budget last season was way higher than Cheltenham) and let their best player Alfie May and others leave in the summer with no adequate replacement. He'd scored 43 goals in 2 seasons.

They were favourites for relegation this season before it started and barring a miracle they will be relegated whoever the manager is. Most of the very small clubs that they could compete with got relegated last season.

As you well know, Beck used every trick in the book to find “marginal gains”, tricks which have become legend, many being to unsettle the opposition before they even got on the pitch. One of his tricks was to order the groundsmen to leave the grass longer in the corners of the pitch, so the ball would hold up more, helping his wingers get in crosses to Dion Dublin and John Taylor.

Dave Brailsford at British was I think the biggest proponents of 'marginal gains' theory. However as it's subsequently turned out that might have been other, ahem, "methods" being used.....

The club are aiming to sell 10k against Arsenal and Man Utd and tickets are already on sale in the Dolman Centre blocks for both these games due to the high sales already -of course both of these sides have high profile England internationals in their line ups and like the Liverpool game the other year at AG8 many will be attracted to the fixture by the name of the opposition

Would genuinely be amazing if the women get a bigger gate than Rovers for one game this season. 3rd biggest football club in Bristol etc...

Surely an agent works on behalf of his client (ie the player). However, as been pointed out several times on GasChat, the  player was absolutely desperate to sign up for the gas. Therefore its difficult to see why the agent would deliberately ruin the deal. I’m sure somebody on GasChat will be able to explain this to the other inbreds.

It's easy, the agent must be a s***head!

  14. Yes watched the first 4 so far and really enjoying it.

I did wonder about the standard of the opposition though, can't believe that a battle-hardened top National League Chesterfield 1st team wouldn't have walloped a team of misfits who'd only been together for a few days (a bit cruel admittedly but you know what I mean). Presumably it was a Chesterfield youth squad or something ?

That Iranian guy looked excellent and I will keep track of his career. It sounded like he was on track for a promising career at Bolton but he and his family got arrested on suspicion of immigration offences which were subsequently thrown out of court. I can see how that could certainly derail a career! Felt so sorry for the ex-Southampton player who'd had such horrendous injury problems, 3 ACL tears, reminded me of Christian Ribeiro who was such a promising defender here a few years back.

Without more detail it’s impossible to be too specific. However in simple terms, the surgical options for bacterial infections are either “incision and drainage [of pus]” for abscesses and collections, or an excision of infected tissue, be that skin, muscle, bone or something else. Neither are good, as you would normally hope that antibiotics alone should treat most bacterial infections.

Yes agreed, I've got a bit of medical knowledge (former FIBMS) but bacterial infections are not good in general and requiring surgery, even less so.  So potentially a bit worrying but hopefully surgery is/has been successful and being young and hyperfit is always on your side.

I need a Hernia op which I've been putting off for too long and this is not encouraging me to go for it. Gulp!
