With hindsight, we (and he) were very lucky he got that all important first goal against Southampton, as it would have been awful if his last appearance and involvement this season were to have been his unfortunate penalty against Forest.

Yes, I know he started against Middlesbrough.

Those were my thoughts too. Gutted for him as he had just put that match behind him and was ready to get more experience for the rest of the season. Small consolation too is that he will have the full support from his parents, Mickey must have come through a fair few injuries and will have first hand experience of the months ahead for Sam.

Oh you’re right, this throw in shit has been going on for years, much like crap corner kick routines and piss poor free kicks.

This certainly isn’t on Manning, but it seems whoever comes in, nobody gets to the root of the problems and it just continues, regardless of the players and coaches we have at the club.

That's why for me it was so refreshing to see Twine, even if it was only for one match. It really made me realise how predictable and stale our fk and corner routines are.

Give them Monday off back in Tuesday.

What I don't get is why Manning thinks there is not enough time on the training ground? It's no different to what other managers have. How does he think they do it?

Or is this a sign of his lack of experience?

I would take that to mean he has lacked in time to do 'basic/standard' training and has had to focus on pre match prep as we've had so many Sat/Sun and Tues/Weds/Fri games for the past few weeks.

As we all know 2 Cup replays, extra time etc are all additional. Add into that away travel and that's a day less out of his coaching week. I just think this maybe what he is alluding to?

A couple issues that can be simply nullified:

Stewards actually check tickets when walking out the concourse and to their seats.

Stewards don’t just stand there at turnstiles while people get freely let in by their mates at the fire doors. This is ridiculous. I once saw someone let in at least half a dozen people (not all at once) and then quickly scramble away into the crowd within the concourse.

It’s not just customers who buy cheap tickets elsewhere, it’s those who keep getting let in for free. I see this in the Lansdown.

That's got to be a security concern at the very least😳

I don't think moving seats is a big thing at all

I've never turned up to find someone sitting in my seat and why would anyone risk the hassle of sitting in someone's else's seat?

Seems a bit of a myth to me

I've seen it every time I've sat (legitimately) in the Lansdown. A bit of a giveaway are those that place themselves in the spare hospitality seats then don't go in at half time😄.

True there are no really bad views in the ground but a prime place side view is always going to be better than behind the goal and is priced at a premium. Similarly Dolman wings are cheaper than centre etc.

People do buy cheap tickets and sit in expensive seats. If the club are stupid enough not to close the loophole then people will do it.

    We don’t know it’s either.

As far as I can see there are three issues here and the ”problem” is likely a culmination of the three:

    - Season ticket holders (adults) not turning up for games - as noted, I think a lot of ST holders miss c10% of games for various reasons

    - South Stand ticket holders moving elsewhere in the ground for a better view

    - Season ticket holders (children) not coming to games. As with the adults, you’d expect 10% of games to be missed but it’s probably higher due to night games etc for kids who genuinely go

The club will have the data here of which STs are scanned in each game. Again, I don’t think they’ll be motivated to do anything until we have consistent sell outs but they’ll know.

The likely answer is not one of the three groups is big enough in isolation. And I don’t agree with putting prices up for children in the SS - it’s the most affordable area and people don’t want to be in the family area for life so secure seats in the area they want to sit in long term. Equally, I don’t want the time and hassle of having to show my ticket every time I go up the stairs to my seat in the Dolman.

I genuinely don’t think this is that major an issue overall currently and more importantly the club don’t either.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if the club will review it some day. At the moment they have given out a shirt for a cheap ticket. I thought the shirts were to prevent kids wearing ManU/Chelsea etc shirts in our city and to catch them young, fans for the future etc. Well if the child isn't attending and the parent isn't spending on sweets, burgers, soft drinks etc for them that already money lost? The kid might be happy with the shirt, but if there is no real connection with the club as they don't attend then are they likely to pester for additional shirts or kit? Again money lost perhaps? Meanwhile the adult has plenty of space next to them, the option to upgrade or sneak a mate in on a child's ticket, and most importantly the guarantee of an option to buy for a big name cup tie or playoff game.

That said the club aren't going to bust a gut and make loads of SS seats for POTD by a buy back scheme for example, they probably think that if a casual fan wants to attend badly enough they will pay for a dearer ticket.

Remember too, be careful about the snap shots at certain times.

Some games people pour in after kick-off.

There is an exodus 5, 10 mins from halftime not including stoppage time.

Then people are still pouring in after the start of the 2nd half. Queues for beer, toilet, finishing pints etc.

Hence it can mislead but clearly there are a % of no shows for every game too.

That's why I made a point of checking when I took the photos and stating the timings. I guessed that with an 8pm KO them most people would be in their seats as in reality it's 20 mins later than normal. Same with after HT. If your not back in your seat 15 mins after the restart why  attend games!

It's a sad situation where ST holders and fans can't attend because of the transport and parking problems... especially night games.

We should be looking at ways the Club can work with the Council when it comes to game days. Instead of looking to sell their tickets to those that can make it who lives nearer.

How ridiculous that you pay for a ST and you can't make games because of our terrible parking and public transport.

It's the only reason I gave up my ST.

I absolutely detest trying to drive, park or use public transport in and out of Bristol.

It just isn't worth the stress.

Great point, and the 8pm KO probably made catching buses or trains even more difficult with connections etc

It was noticeable on Sky how many empty seats there were in the Dolman also

The Dolman looked pretty full from what I could see, but I did pass my ST on to someone and they said there were quite a lot of empty seats near them.

I’ve said this before but I think the open concourse layout definitely leads to people moving into areas that they haven’t actually bought tickets for.

I've seen this a few times. My ST ticket is as I said in the Dolman but if a workmate cannot attend I use their ST's and sit in the Lansdown. Often I have got to their seat and someone is sitting there, I advise them it's my seat and they move without problem (as they aren't meant to be there, and obviously don't want to draw attention to this). They often move a few seats or rows away until the same thing happens! I have seen stewards occasionally ask other people to leave the Lansdown stand and point to where they are meant to be, eg the SS or even the Dolman! But no, it's certainly not monitored very well.

  11. I read on another thread about people saying we should limit the number of away fans, and replies were that the club wouldn't do this and turn down money.

I had a better view from the Lansdown on Tuesday than I usually do from the Domain regarding the problem of empty seats. Yes it was half term, but I don't think this is too unusual.

People would buy these seats if they weren't 'seatblocked' by ST holders.

The first phot taken almost 5 mins into the game and the 2nd 10 or 15 mins after HT

It was picked up on the TV coverage how many players from both sides were struggling to keep on their feet

After it was mentioned it was noticeable how many seemed overly cautious

As a leveller, possibly, but it was the same for both sides

Yes, I was just about to comment how both teams were slipping a lot. I haven't noticed this quite so much before in any weather.

school holidays next week. Stadium tours should be available. I know my boy would love it. Missed a trick here City

We play on Tuesday so that's one day off limits for starters. I don't know if Bears or the women are playing but that's potentially another day if not two again off limits. I guess with the stadium being used more it's hard to fit tours in, also someone has to do the tour. I guess Jerry has his day to day work to do as he is an employee so he can't just drop everything to take multiple groups round on tours?

With regard to the HPC I wonder if tours could be arranged with Jerry during the now brief close season.

Perhaps small parties shown around for a donation to the foundation or children’s hospice?

This would be good. I'm sure people would be willing to pay/donate. I would.

  15. Regarding City, I've been lucky enough to have been in our changing rooms etc and have seen a lot of behind the scenes stuff that is out of bounds. It is very interesting and surprising.

I've also been in hospitality in the Lansdown and Heineken Lounges, and I think it's a real shame that some people haven't seen the facilities we have. I don't mean this in a 'look at me I've had hospo' sort of way, but I just remember how absolutely mind blown I was when I was shown these areas for the first time after the redevelopment. The attention to detail and quality rivals most hotels.

Jerry does do occasional tours, but it's very ad hoc. If you got access to a child's football team, eg a parent or something you got a chance that way. Similarly I know he has taken overseas visitors or very ill people on a tour as a 'bucket list' request. But in general there is no paid for tour you can book online which is a shame. I'm hoping one day to see the HPC but that is very locked down but occasional tours happen there I believe.

Like I said there are stadium tours occasionally, mainly in the school holidays. I don't know why the club thinks only kids are interested and excludes everyone else pretty much.

On the subject of stadium tours I'm taking a friend to her first England game at Wembley in a few weeks against Brazil, we're staying London and doing the Wembley tour the Sunday morning - has anyone been on it?

The last Wembley tour I went on was just after we lost to Stoke before the rebuild

I've done the Wembley tour twice. It's really good. The guides are excellent and it's very relaxed, plenty of time for photos etc and it was professionally done with just the right amount of facts without being boring or overly educational if you know what I mean.

Sometimes certain areas maybe out of bounds due to events or work being done. The first tour the Royal box was, but when I went again a year or so later I got to lift a replica FA Cup 😄

I've also done the West Ham/London stadium tour a couple of years ago. That was really good too. I would like to do the Spurs one at some point. I'm not a fan, just like seeing new grounds.

I don't know why the local news said 5k, I heard the reporter say that and wondered where they got that figure from. Our allocation was something like 2.2k wasn't it, less than half what they believed were there!
